The Roast of Justin Sun - TOKEN2049 Singapore 2025

TOKEN2049Sun, Nov 9, 2025, 12:00 AM

Transcript

Hello everybody. Wow, Justin, everyone really loves you.

You pull a crowd, that's for sure. Well, ladies and gentlemen, I'm very excited to present to you the first ever crypto roast. When it came to this concept, well, let me do this before getting to the point that we start making Justin cry. We're going to talk a little bit about why we got to this point and why we're doing this. Um, as humans, I guess you could say that we have all one thing in common is that we're all driven by the same motivations.

Um, we're all driven by emotions in every decision we make and this industry is no shortage of that. Uh, one of the greatest motivators we have is making money. So, a lot of people come into this industry attracted to that, but 95 to 99% of the time that's not a good feeling. uh 1% of the time it does help. But the consideration is is that the only other emotivator that brings us more joy and happiness and otherwise can just bring more light to the space is laughter.

So when it comes to thinking of this, most everyone thinks that crypto is going to be getting rich, losing your money. There's all the bad news that are related to it. But I want to dial back to how this started. Um, three months ago, TJ and I were just discussing about how this complete industry is fully devoid of any humor. That's if you think about it, it's challenging to make jokes about technology because it requires a level of understanding of the actual components and the ability to make jokes about that.

Now, when TJ Miller worked on Silicon Valley, he did the most phenomenal job of satarizing a tech industry that was again completely awkward as well as completely ridiculed of anything of any humor. So, what I would like to do today is basically talk about this being the first mark of a legacy. When I talked to TJ about this, I basically said I said, "Why don't we do a roast?" And there's no better subject for a roast than the gentleman next to me, Mr. Justin Sun.

We're going to have fun. Don't be Don't be excited yet.

Be ready.

Yeah, I'm ready.

All right. So, one thing that I want to say about Mr. Justin Sun is that he has done some amazing [ __ ] Let's talk about it, right? He's built companies. He's done this.

He's even that one. Look at that guy. Where is he at? You know, Justin son, there you were. You were in outer space.

That was a hell of an accomplishment. What was the Titanic not good enough? Like, you had to do something else first. Well, let me guess. It's because CZ didn't do it yet.

You know the the the thing that's remarkable about this Justin is what you didn't realize that when taking this picture that you created the only valid moment that somebody could say that Tron got close to the moon. I was waiting for that one for a while. But Justin, I also want to be clear that when your community is sending those messages saying Chong coin to the moon, this is not what they wanted you to do. They wanted something else. But seriously though, Justin, you know what?

I actually just realized something. When I was told that I was going to be coming up here and roasting a founder who was short, I was like, why would a founder be short on his project? Makes sense now. I mean, I get it now. But we do have the soap box for you, so you should be able to be over this podium.

But we all know he's not long. But I'll admit that was a low blow. I I do think Justin can take it. But before I hand this off to the true roast master, Mr. TJ Miller, who I know we're all excited to hear.

Am I right?

I want to share a little bit of advice for you before going into this, Justin. Uh, a wise man once told me that life is full of failures, but true talent never fades and never falters. And Justin, if there's one thing we know you'll always be good at, you've got some amazing talent with a banana. Please don't hate me after this. The funny part is is Justin wasn't allowed to see any of these jokes before coming on here.

So, we'll see exactly how he feels by the end of this, but it's all in good luck, Justin. And truly, thank you for everything you've done for this space. We couldn't be more happy that you're here, and I hope TJ's kinder to you than I was. Thank you so much, everybody. Mr.

TJ Miller This is great. Hey, Justin.

Hey, DJ.

Hi.

This our first time meeting. Uh, no, I'm kidding. Uh, this is great. They got us a podium where you can't put a beer. Perfect.

Uh, and I love this podium doesn't have any place for the microphone. That's how expensive token is. That's how much money they have. You guys know the tickets were overpriced. Um, it's okay to laugh, by the way.

I'm going to say a lot of things that seem maybe a little bit harsh or something and it's not true. Um, we are here to celebrate the great Justin Sun. Let's give him a round of applause, EVERYBODY. YES. LET'S HEAR IT.

TOKEN. TOKEN 2049. A name that doesn't make sense. I'm not going to be able to do the roast. Uh, I have a scheduling conflict.

So, that's it for me. More on that later. It's I'm gonna wonder how many people know anything about what I'm about to talk about. Don't worry, I'll get to the banana. Um, so Justin, I do love your look.

You look like somebody put Crypto Bro into an AI image generator. The handsome one. Handsome one. Uh, I want to say before this roast, I did not know who you were. No, I really didn't.

But I Googled Justin Sun test. Sorry. Electric cars. Legal told me not to say that. Space tourism and Warren Buffett.

And every result was he did a thing and it didn't really work out. I've never knew that an audience would be afraid of a billionaire until I came here and saw you guys all sort of laugh. Uh I am happy to be here. Justin is crypto's most controversial figure because we can trust the media, right? Everything you read is true.

Side note, thank you for buying uh Bit Torrent. I was able to get all my movies for free. So, I didn't make make much Tron off of that. All right, let's begin. Justin's son is rich.

I mean, rich. He could buy all the millionaires who buy American politics and elections. Uh, you're like Elon Musk, but poor. Okay, I'll do more jokes like that. Um, seriously, these are jokes you've done nothing wrong according to you.

And uh uh he has enough money to give every This is real. He has enough money to give every single person in here a million dollars and then enough money to have us all killed and take that money back. They like that one. Um, so this true. I told people back home that I was roasting uh one of the richest billionaires in the world.

And then I looked it up and you are 398th. So then I was like, "Oh, I can tell them that he's one of the richest billionaires from China." But let's be honest, we don't know if that's the case either. The math gets kind of fuzzy over there. I definitely know that I'll have a one in 398th chance of being jailed for that last comment.

Um, it's just that 398th uh is just not that impressive. You know what I mean? Like, can we at least get to 250 or below? I mean, maybe sell Elon Musk a banana for a couple billion. This is the weirdest.

I thank you guys so much for being here. I It's as difficult for me to understand what's going on as all of you. There are no panels that are funny. Even though that last guy in the hat and the overalls, I [ __ ] love that guy. I'm going to pick carrots with him.

You're invited, Justin. It's going to cost $1.4 billion. Uh side note, you're actually I checked this morning on Forbes, you're actually uh the 400th richest man on earth. So, I didn't want to embarrass you, but that's just kind of the deal.

Uh oh. So, uh they say that this is true, you guys. They say that Bill Gates would lose money if he uh bent over to pick up a $100 bill. Did you know that Justin's son would lose money if he came through on any of his promises? This is a roast.

We Okay, Justin's cool with it. Why are you guys being [ __ ] weird? Uh, my favorite picture of Justin's son. This is my favorite picture of you by far. I've never used a clicker.

There it is. This on the cover of Forbes. I just love it. Look at that. I think that's so great.

It's like uh you're reaching for something on a shelf that you can't reach, like the top shelf,

like a piggy bank or your integrity. People say he's I'm not saying he's pretentious, but his team told me they didn't say don't look at Justin in the eyes. They said don't stare directly into the sun. That's a joke for all of you. That's your kind of humor.

For God's sake, you've been ostracized during middle school and high school because you're smart enough to get that joke. Uh Justin, you're an astronaut. Can you even believe it? You guys give him a round of applause. You went to space.

That's unbelievable. It's so exciting. I love that you got up there. He paid tens of millions of dollars for the space flight. We'll get to Warren Buffett later, but then you have scheduling conflicts all the time.

How much money does it cost for him to be punctual, do you think? Okay, that girl only there liked that one. That's it. Um, what was the scheduling conflict for the uh the space flight? I got a couple of ideas.

The cable guy gave me a window of 9:00 a.m. until after the space flight. I'm trying to make love to this six- foot tall woman and it's going to take a while for me to get to the is it 6 meters? I don't know.

I'm American. I don't give a [ __ ] So, but let's be honest, we all know the scheduling conflict. It was the only time he could get tickets to Shen Yan. Guys, the Chinese traditional dance company. He's only had 4,000 years to Okay, I'll move on.

This really, honestly, I thought this Shenyan [ __ ] was going to kill in Singapore. Um, did you get travel insurance for space? You got to get the travel insurance. And you can fake the reason. And you're, you know, faking.

It's like when you're in bed with a woman and she has a orgasm. In 2019, Justin bought for $4.5 million lunch with Warren Buffett, but you of course push the lunch because of health reasons. Um, and you actually went through uh with uh explaining it. You had kidney stones.

You you could have just left it at health reasons, but you had to say, "I'm passing kidney stones." It's just another example of Justin wanting us to think about his dick, even in a gross way. You're being a really good sport about this. I want to tell you that. Give him a round of applause, you guys.

[Applause] All right, let's talk about the banana. Justin bought a banana for 6.2 million and then he ate it. Did it taste better than 3.1 million other bananas?

It's a question. Does it make sense? Someone over there, I think from his team, goes, "Yes, yes. Yes." Uh, the first time I met Justin when we talked, a friend of his said, "Have you ever met a Chinese official?"

And uh, I said, "No." And she said, "They nod their head and say yes a lot." And I said, "They do?" And she goes, "Yes. And I go, "There's no way."

And she goes, "Yes." And then I met Justin and I was like, "How are you doing? I'm excited for the roast." He's like, "Yes,

yes, yes." Do you ever say no?

Yes.

Yes. Give him that one. YOU GUYS GIVE HIM A ROUND OF APPLAUSE ON THAT ONE. OH, this is the only thing legal let me do in this. So, you can read all about how he negotiated a banana for $6.

2 2 million in his new book, The Art of the Peel. You understand what I'm saying? The Art of the Peel, like Art of the Deal. That was the only one he'd let. Legal legal would only let me talk about Donald Trump like that.

That's it. But he does love eating art. He's the only guy that'll uh start bidding when the protester threw the soup on the painting. Um, and then you are a Yeah, let's talk a little bit about your background because I don't even think Justin is Chinese. I'm serious.

Think about it. He's fake rich. He hangs out on Wall Street. He pays too much for organic fruit. He steals other people's ideas.

He must be American. He's got to be an American. He could be the president if you think about it. But he has too many scheduling conflicts. Justin is living the Chinese dream, don't you think?

Trying to be as American as possible and have intercourse with tall women. Justin, lastly, uh you're a protege to Jack Ma, you know, who taught the secret to securing one's wealth. Don't criticize the Chinese government. Thank you guys very much. And uh that was a first.

And now I'd like to sit down uh with Justin and talk with him a little bit uh and sort of a fireside chat, ask him some questions. He maybe hasn't been asked before. Are you up for that? Are you guys up for that?

Well, give us A ROUND OF APPLAUSE.

YES.

Do you want to make jokes also?

Yeah.

Okay. Actually, Justin's going to do his rebuttal in roast, which none of you have ever seen live. Uh the comedians all make fun of uh the the roasty and then he gets up and does a rebuttal. So, give a round of applause for for the first time the roast rebuttal of Justin. Thank you, DJ.

Have

fun. TJ, I heard at the end of the Silicon Valley series, you went straight up to Himalayas. Must be because of the election of Donald Trump, right? Finally, crypto has finally spread straight up to the Himalayas. Tell me, what do you use to get information up there?

Facebook fees. Facebook fees. You might think you are early in crypto. But actually it's too late. Even the FTX users is starting to get refund.

I don't know what that means. I I mean I get it. Look, we are only couple of months of this cycle and honestly you are the last person we want for crypto mass adoption because man when you showed up it's not mass adoption it's mass liquidation. I think I got that one. Top signals everybody ready to exit.

It's cancelled though. We had to made the entire Bitcoin scam just try to trick the people in Himalayas on buying crypto. But in cryptos, we don't call them scams. We call them TG. I think he said TJ.

Yes. No worry TJ. I will hook you up for the next TGA. Oh, wait. You can't be US citizen.

Never mind. THANK YOU EVERYBODY. YEAH. GIVE IT UP FOR JUSTIN SUN.

Oh my god. LOOK AT THAT. THAT WAS INCREDIBLE. WELL, THAT WAS AMAZING. and it proves money can't buy laughs, guys.

Keep it going one more time right now for Justin's son. That was great.

That was really, really good.

So, here. Cheers.

Cheers.

Did you have fun?

Yes.

Yes.

Yes. Yes.

Um, so I wanted to ask you, first of all, what was that like? Is that the first time you've done sort of standup comedy?

Yes, that's my first time. I wrote all the lines uh yesterday night. Yeah, you wor them last night after a few beers. I liked that. It was very good.

Um, and then is it different trying to kind of get laughs than sort of being informational?

Yeah, totally.

Are you when you do panels, do you find them to be boring? Because I see a lot of panels here and they're very boring.

Yeah, really boring.

Yeah. So, do you find that you kind of have to be too dry and you sort of have to tend towards being boring? Yeah, as long as the panels can make ads for my projects.

Yeah, that's okay. Be as boring as you need to. That's that guy. Um, and so uh do you feel like people have a uh impression of you that is really off?

I don't know actually. We ask the audience here.

Yeah. Well, I'm not going to do that. Um, but I do think, you know, when you do something like the banana, and we'll talk about this more, but like when you do something like a a Warren Buffett or the space tourism, because you and I talked about this a little bit, like do you see those at all as publicity stunts, putting those off or doing them, or were you excited for the Warren Buffett? Uh how much of it is publicity stunt or getting publicity and how much of it is actually kind of wanting to do it? Yeah.

All the things we actually wanting to do that um for the public stand or like how how much publicity we will have because of those event. Uh we don't know that too right before the events.

Uh let's take a banana for example. Um, I think I'm crazy enough to to buy a banana for $6 million, but

6.2.

Yeah. 6.2. Yes. And

I always forget. 2 million when I'm talking about my purchases also.

And the rest of the world is also crazy enough to believe the story, love the story. Uh, I I think it's kind of like a surprise to me.

Yeah. So, that's surprising. And then when you bought the banana, did you know you were going to eat it or did you just decide that in like that moment?

Yeah, I can't decide it on that moment because the banana can't last long any anyway, right? It's uh Yeah, we're gonna eat it.

And it's also it's going to go bad in a couple days and so you got to eat it right then.

Exactly.

I have been wanting to ask this for a while. When you went to the auction, were you hungry? You know what I mean? Did you sort of did you have a big meal and say maybe it's dessert or did you kind of go, you know what, I'm gonna I'm gonna just go with an empty stomach and that's why it went to 6.2.

Exactly. Actually, I I'm going to the exhibition, you know, without having lunch. That's why improvising, right? Why not take the banana?

And then you gave me Well, let's talk about a couple other things. Um, do you think you're uh crypto's most controversial figure? Are you the most talked about guy in crypto?

Kind of.

That's the first time I haven't heard him say yes.

Um, kind of. Right. And do you enjoy that sort of like maverick renegade reputation? Because I have a little bit of that in Hollywood. I don't know how I feel about it.

What do you think? As long as less photo holes is good.

As long as what?

Less photo holes.

Less photos. Okay, I like that. Or more photos. You get more photos if you're And then you told me about spaceflight last night. Uh and it was why why did you want to do a space flight?

Why do you like why do you do these things? Is there a reason that you're drawn to sort of

Yes. I'm thinking you know like one of the advantage I have compared to Elon Musk is uh I'm younger than him right so so he can make made the rockets and I can be the one who on those rockets

yeah that's right exactly you're younger than Elon Musk

yes

not for long

it's just like you you are trading cryptos right on the exchange but you must tr trust the founders for that Yeah. So, you're going to buy the rockets, but you wanted to go on a rocket ship. Uh, you want, you were telling me about maybe going to the, you know, deep sea. And what you said to me was one of the reason you do these things is you want to be the first. That's really important to you.

Is that true?

Yes. Yes.

So, can you tell me a little bit about that? Why is that so important to you?

Yeah. First of all, I want to do something everybody else is not doing or at least we are the uh first one. Yeah.

Uh to do it. Um I think if basically we are doing everything other people repeatedly doing uh I I think it's lose the purpose right of why we are doing this in the first place.

A friend of yours told me uh that in your place you have all these computers set up no matter where you go. Do you consider yourself a workaholic?

Yes, I set up like workstation everywhere, you know. Um, yeah, I'm even thinking about like when I'm going to ISS, you know, international PlayStation,

I can set up like a Wi-Fi as long as there is Wi-Fi. Um, even I think without food and water, I will be survive.

You'll be fine.

That is true. He said International Space Station is a goal of his, but he doesn't know about the Wi-Fi speed.

Can you imagine that? Being that rich and being like, I can't get on Wi-Fi. Uh, and then, uh, I asked you last night, so I also want to say, what is there anything that's what's the most important thing to you that isn't money that has nothing to do with money?

Uh, it's about our company, um, uh, our career, you know, uh, our service to our users.

Yeah.

Uh, because I think to me, uh, money is just a byproduct, right? Um so if we are doing a good job we will have some points at at the end of the day uh anyway uh credits for what we doing right so so that's why I don't really see the money as the result or u money as the thing uh we want here I I think what we really want is deliver a good product and deliver a good services u to uh all the users we serve A lot of people would say love.

Yes. Love.

A lot of people say money can't buy love. The next most important thing is love.

You said career and the company, right?

Yes. Yes. Yes.

If if if I asked you what's more important than the career in your company, would you say money?

Love.

You got it. See, that's what I'm talking about. Um and then the um the banana was really interesting. So you give people bananas when you meet them,

people that are important to you. So can you tell them about that? Why do you give people You give people a box. What is it that you give them?

Yes. Inside the box there's a banana with a tape.

Yeah. And uh I think it's uh green. It's a green, right? So uh and uh it's also symbolic. you know, everybody know about the banana and uh um and and I think it's just like a universal language, right?

Even people don't speak English or um every other language, they will understand arts like immediately.

Yeah. And I never thought I'd hear somebody say that about a banana. Everybody knows the banana. Um but yeah, so I'll say he gives the box with the banana. It's duct taped to a canvas, which is very generous.

But most importantly is the instructions to do it yourself, which is actually the piece of art, right? Because the banana goes bad. And I found this out when he gave it to me. Essentially, every time he gives it uh this away, it is a $6.2 million piece of artwork because you're giving them the concept.

And it's called the comedian. And I wanted to know if you had this experience because I took the banana duct tape to the canvas and I put it up in my hotel room in Korea and I was like this actually looks pretty cool, you know? And then I went to sleep and the next morning I woke up I was like you know this is this is great. Justin's son gave me a [ __ ] banana duct taped to a goddamn canvas and it looks amazing. It's worth $6.

2 million. and I went to go speak and then I came back and the banana had fallen off of the canvas and the duct tape was so I quickly got it and I put it back up and I use the same duct tape. I didn't want to get different duct tape and then I went to sleep and I woke up and the banana fell off again and it was starting to rot and so what happens is it's oxidizing and then I put it back on. I was like, well maybe I can't hang it so I'll just put it horizontally on like the desk and then it can be right there. And then at a certain point it was going so rotten starting to that I was like what am I supposed to do with this?

So I ate the banana.

Yes.

Exactly.

So I get it.

So it's a very very What I was going to say is it's a very very funny thing to do. It's a very [ __ ] funny piece of artwork. Um and so I think I get it and I think what I'm realizing is not a lot of people get you. Would you agree with that?

Yes, totally. I think the banana um artwork also represents uh the meaning of life, right? That's like um

that is something I never thought I would hear.

Yeah,

but it represents the meaning of life. I didn't I was just doing a side joke. How does it represent the meaning of life?

Yeah. So, basically, you need to keep the maintenance and and and this won't last long, right? Um, so better enjoy the moment when this the banana is good.

Yeah. And it's duct tape and it will stay. Yes. That's great. Well, I wanted to do something for you.

I'm a jester, so I'm able to do some pretty fun things. I brought these three apples. Okay. You all right?

No, I'm not going to throw them at you. How dare you?

Never. I thought I would do a little something. It's my responsibility as a jester to make fun of kings. And I think we, you know, he's a king in some ways, in other ways not. And uh but I thought I would do a little juggling for you.

[Music] Justin, this is for you.

Okay,

I heard you like fruit.

Yeah, thank you.

GIVE IT UP FOR JUSTIN, EVERYBODY.

Thank you.

Thank you for coming to the Rose. Please welcome Jordan Win. Thanks guys again. That was really fun. Thank you.

Thank you everybody.
