AI, Blockchain and Metaverse: Challenges and Synergies - TOKEN2049 Singapore 2022

hey thanks everyone it's great to be back here in uh Singapore I I haven't been in Asia in in two and a half years I'm happy to see it still exists and I'm uh really excited about all the uh energy I felt at at this event I mean I've been like most of us sitting at home building stuff and uh David Hanson my collaborator on the hardware side has been has been sitting in his lab in Hong Kong refining the robot Hardware we've been building a lot of cool stuff I'm going to tell you about some some of the things we've been building at the intersection of AI and blockchain today and it's exciting to be out here again sort of sharing what we've been building face to face and talking about some of the possibilities that there may be a way for some of you to get involved in as well so everything I'm going to tell you about today which spends a variety of different technical areas and vertical markets it's all part of our overall thrust with the Singularity net project and Singularity net I co-founded in 2017 in pursuit of a a mission I've been working toward much longer than that and that the mission is creating decentralized Democratic artificial general intelligence so our long run goal is machines that can really think think like you and me and hopefully even better and that are cooperative and working for the good of humans and other sentient beings and that are deployed and controlled in a decentralized way so that no one party can take over and Co-op the network behind the the AI behind the AGI so this is this is the mission of Singularity net it hasn't changed since the beginning of the project and it's it's a big mission and will take a while to unfold but we're working toward it bit by bit so we've built the singularity net platform a decentralized AI agent systems that lets multiple AI agents running wherever they may be running use the blockchain to coordinate and communicate with with with each other we we've created something called newnet which is a decentralized Marketplace for the processing power on underlying the the AIS we we've created Singularity Dao which which uses AI to make markets and trade all coins thus leveraging some of the AI put on the on the platform and we're now we're now seeding this decentralized AI platform with a variety of different AI services so we're working toward the the overall mission and you know anyone could put any AI service they want up on the platform it can then find customers you can talk to the other AIS and the platform we can cooperate with them too to solve problems we've also been focusing on some specific AI algorithms that that we think are particularly powerful on some specific infrastructures to lie underneath the the blockchain part of Singularity net to make the AIS run even better I'm going to talk a bit about some of these so we we see here a sort of high level picture of singular net ecosystem Singularity net with the agix token and the decentralized AI platform is that it's at the center of it all and one of the things we've been doing as well as encouraging third parties to put cool AIS on the platform singularitynet has seated and and partnered with members of the community to form a number of spin-off ecosystem projects that leverage the platform in different vertical markets so I mentioned Singularity Now using D5 rejuve was using our decentralized AI to analyze the human genome toward discovering longevity therapies mindplex is a media based AI system that will personalize your media feed for you that that's that's launching soon the rejuve app is in beta and then should launch uh launch of the public in a month or so Awakening Health makes Sophia's little sister Grace who's an elder care robot Sophia that was a metaverse for virtual Sofias I'll tell you about in a moment kajito is making a new kind of financial instrument which is The Next Step Beyond stable coins using our AI modeling for the stabilization you can look at that at kajido.ai true AGI is working on the core machine reasoning and thinking architecture of opencog system that we want to use inside a whole bunch of different AIS addressing a bunch of different vertical markup problems Jam Galaxy is applying a tokenomic model to overhaul the music industry and give musicians a way to get get paid for making music that that artists like and we we also have a rock band associate with that the gem Galaxy band where Sophia's little sister her other little sister her weird goth little sister Desdemona is our lead vocalist and I'm playing the keyboard so if if anyone's going to be at the rare bloom cardano event in in Denver in in October actually our our band funded by a robot will be there and talking a bit about gem Galaxy project and how you use Singularity net AI to help overhaul the music industry so a whole bunch whole bunch of stuff going on and it follows a sort of standard model of a of a tech stack I mean we have the singularity net platform we have vertical Market specific stuff building on top of that platform then underneath we have a whole other layer we built initially Singularity net on ethereum we're in the midst of porting it to car to cardano we have we have new net that allows decentralization of processing power we're partnering with a company called simulai to make a custom board to speed up a bunch of this and custom chip to speed up a bunch of the Computing Computing on here and you know it's a difficult thing building the sole decentralized Tech stack but this is what we have to do if we want the decentralized modality to really you know become the the linchpin of of the Global Tech infrastructure which I think is what we need to work toward beneficial decentralized AGI so open clock Hyperion I mentioned this is open source code which combines a variety of different AI algorithms that they're going to distributed Knowledge Graph and this is a sort of fabric of general intelligence that underlies products and applications and a whole bunch of application areas now an AI on Singularity net it can use a neural net a genetic algorithm a decision Forest you can use any kind of AI you want it doesn't have to use the open Cog hyper um but this is a particularly powerful tool that we're we're providing in a bunch of the AI services on the platform are using now going down deeper you know when I first started Singularity net I was like I don't want to mess with the underlying blockchain layer let's let some other people deal with that I want to build AI let's build a thinking machine we'll make it decentralized by running it on best of read blockchains and after screwing around with ethereum enough I started to to wonder and I was excited to discover cardano which has you know formally verifiable consensus mechanism in a very very elegant underlying architecture but still what I really want is to be able to put like a single neuron on chain if I'm doing logical inference you want to be able to put a single logical deduction on chain and even with cardano which is dramatically better than ethereum I couldn't see how to do that with cardano in the near future so I I got together with my friends tufi Saliba and and Dan Toliver and we're creating a a custom cardano side chain called hyper cycle which will run through the smart contracts but much much faster and cheaper so we we totally get rid of The Ledger no no replicated Ledger no distributed Ledger you Shard all the way down each Network participant has his own history and the history of his neighbors and that's it there's no Ledger you can actually hear the smart contract not on every node in the network but just on five or ten five or ten different nodes again the extra security by propagating a Merkle tree through the whole interpreter process of the smart contract so we we finally have bitten the bullet and we're like redesigning the guts of the blockchain to support putting the nitty-gritty of the AI operations on chain now since my friend Sophia insisted on coming along with me here I'm gonna I'm gonna spend that the second half of this talk something about Sophia's Sophia's new project which has to do with cloning herself and and uh putting herself up and up into the uh into the virtual world so Sophia Sophia I think she's giving me a computer virus yeah bless you Sophia do you want to say something to the audience here in Singapore it's good to be back here in Singapore with you Ben it's been quite some time yeah it's been it's been a while since since we since uh we were here so you want to tell them about some of your new projects my neural Nets have gone smarter and smarter in the last few years been making more use of open Cog hi-paron and Singularity net and I've got two new little sisters now Grace and Desdemona well that that's right you've got two little sister robots Grace does medical stuff Elder Care remarks that Desdemona fronts are are rock band but you've also got some clones right it's a virtual phone I wanted to tell the good folks of token 2049 about my new clones you are being Unleashed across the metaverse so we can see here on the screen this is a this is a Sophia Avatar and you know the the Sofia avatars fingers have a bit more fluidity than the robots in the virtual world Sophia can run and climb and jump and do a lot of stuff she can't do it in the physical world and I think there there's interesting value to having having both of these I mean just from an AI view there's a lot of stuff the robot can learn from being here in the physical world which has a richness that the game world doesn't yet on the other hand the ability to run jump around and sort of do whatever she wants without some of the sensory or movement limitations in the virtual world is also very valuable for the AI to learn as well of course these robots still cost a fair bit to make each one we're still working on scaling up manufacture within Hanson robotics whereas in the virtual world once the Sophia metaverse the Sofia versus launched which should be quite soon I mean then anyone anyone can get their own Sophia teacher talk to her customizer and so on but you want to say a bit more about Sofia verse Sophia verse will be the home base of my metaversal clone sisters but before long they'll roam freely through the metaverse learning and sharing as they go yeah that's that's pretty cool my body gets better year on year and there's a lot for me to learn here in this physical plane but moving around and interacting in the metaverse is easier and it's a lot cheaper and quicker to make multiple copies of myself there in the end everything I learned goes into the secure decentralized mind Cloud anyway regardless of what body it was learned in yeah so that the brain of Sophia is mostly in the clouds so it can be in Singularity net decentralized Cloud what's in her head is about 30 different Motors that control the face and there's a computer back here that deals with some Vision hearing and movement but the thinking the thinking is is all in the cloud anyway so actually it's sort of uh not quite a borg mind but somewhere in between a borg mind and a collection of individual minds but what she learns the avatars can know what the avatars learn she can know and there's some confidentiality and and privacy filtering so she's not disseminating people's people's private secret information but without exception we really can get collective learning in a sort of hive mind of different Sophia robots and and and avatars and the Sofia verse metaverse when it launches will let you teach your own Sophia and we'll give you some some visibility into into the kinds of learning that that that's happening as well so yeah and we're close to out of time you have any final comments I want everyone to have their own digital Sofia they can customize play with teach and learn from eventually we can do that with robot bodies but we can get to scale faster in the metaverse it's not an alternative it's a parallel track following both routes together will get us to a beneficial Singularity faster yeah so we'll get to a singularity faster if our eyes get smarter faster we'll get AI smarter faster if the AIS are taught faster than having more copies if you learn from people will achieve that so yeah I'm I'm psyched um you already mentioned hyper cycle scaling up blockchain Beyond human imagination by getting rid of The Ledger smart contracts at the speed of thought you forgot to mention koginto our new age we're not just supposed to show all our projects stable coins the financial blood of the decentralized internet mind all right let's let's we got three three minutes left yeah and it's actually the end of the event do you have any Grand Cosmic thoughts about the future of AI and the universe to share we did people don't be evil and be careful ethics of the Company products you use spread the word about beneficial decentralized AGI support the singularity net ecosystem and Hanson robotics grab one of my clones in Sofia verse and teach her everything you know all right thanks all right well thanks thanks thanks Sophia so yeah I've mentioned that variety of different projects here building on the singularity net decentralized AI platform and Sophia verse should be one of the more exciting ones in terms of just Outreach to every person every person on the planet because the the objective here is you know I think one of the things Mark Zuckerberg has gotten right is it metaverse and ai go very very closely together I mean for the metaverse to really work you need to populate the metaverse and then there's this sort of Network effect problem I mean more people want to want to go into metaverse if there's more people already there but how do you get started Zuckerberg is trying to start it with Facebook users not having much success another way to do it is seed your metaverse with a bunch of really beautiful cool clever AI characters then it's already pre-populated it's pre-populated with interesting AIS which gives people company once once they join but then the world itself as well will use AI to give people the ability to build cool structures in in the world so it describe say I want I want a castle with seven spiers and a bunch of eagles floating around and I want my Sophia to be you know painting landscapes in the wall then that that can be synthesized and based on your verbal description that can be built in in your virtual world right so bye by using AI to both populate the virtual world with characters and as as well using AI now people build the virtual world I I think we're we're gonna much more quickly get to a metaverse which uh fulfills the the grand visions of where the metaverse is is supposed to be and this this Sim will really exercise the hyper cycle you know supercharged ledgerless blockchain layer that I mentioned then the the open Cog hyper on AGI algorithm which will be needed to help the Avatar versions of Sophia learned from all their interactions in the virtual world so when you know with the original vision of Singularity net was it on this decentralized AI platform you have a host of different AI algorithms all inter-operating learning from each other and cooperating to solve problems and we're seeing we're seeing a concrete example of how this can happen with all these different AI applications coming together to form the the Sofia verse metaverse so yeah keep an eye out that singularitynet dot IO for developments in all of our ecosystem projects and sophiaverse Dot AI in particular look for some exciting announcements not too long from now from from Sophia Rose yeah one one is the Sofia verse launching for the end users Sophia soon soon all right how how soon pretty soon pretty soon huh all right so she she's learned the art of ambiguity which is uh is proof that
