BaseLayer - Ep 5: Jessie Lo (Co-founder, SoSoValue)

BaseFri, Jan 9, 2026, 12:00 AM

Jessie Lo was working in tech when COVID hit. Her most ambitious friends started disappearing into crypto. She followed them down the rabbit hole, and found zero clarity. What's the overall market cap? Which sectors are actually performing? What's fact vs. opinion vs. a scam? The basics weren't just hard to find. They barely existed. So she built SoSoValue. In this episode, Jessie shares why crypto investing shouldn't be gate kept by the elite, and how she's building the tools to bring clarity to everyone. This is BaseLayer: Episode 5, a series spotlighting the builders shaping the global onchain economy. -- Follow Jessie: https://x.com/0xjessielo Try SoSoValue: https://ssi.sosovalue.com/ Follow Base: https://x.com/base Learn More: https://www.base.org/

[Music] Hi, I'm Jesse. I'm coming from Singapore and I'm the co-ounder of Social So Value. Always have a little bit of that Vagabond bone in me. I love going to different places and hearing different perspectives and learn from them and see how we can connect. One of the shows that makes a huge difference for me is Anthony Vain.

He's literally creating the human story based on a very common level of human existence. And that actually influenced me a lot because getting into crypto, I I couldn't help but feel like I'm in a foreign world. And what I found was really helpful is to getting into those human stories. We're actually more similar than different. One of the things I built um was a photo book of um portrait of strangers.

Um during my travels, yeah, I started going around the world doing it. that have a portrait in Vietnam, Cambodia, like the US, um Turkey, etc. That's the first time that I realized um the impact of an image in a story and the very foundation of a human connection through um those unwritten words and how do we get across the unchained and offchain, the east and west there there's hope for us to make that human connection there and then to bridge the world. I was working in tech before and that's when I realized like most of my brightest and ambitious friends are entering into crypto and then it was really during co um that I went thorough speed into the rabbit hole really going back to the you know the white paper and then reading the friate hex of the world and understanding the self custody and then yeah never looked back since. So at social value what we believe that everyone should have an equal chance to succeed in the finance role and into crypto investment.

It should not be um gatekept by a few elies. Even for me it was very difficult in the very first place to understand what is the overall market cap of crypto and what is the different sectors that's performing and how did we perform over time and just to get to the basics of what is facts and what is opinions and what is a pure scam. It was so tough and I'm like well if crypto is going to be mainstream down the road we have a lot of missing pieces in between to reach to the average folks. So that's what got us into the space at first um understanding where average investors are nowadays and where the crypto world is and then to build a bridge in between. And so the that's where we build the first piece is the information gap, right?

We built our proprietary AI to help you answer any questions you might have. And the second piece we built is for passive investors who are like me who would love to buy and hold indexes and then go skiing and go surfing uh with friends. That's when we build a social value index protocol. So we pack package a basket of spot tokens and we wrap it and put it on chain so I can just buy and hold for example max 7s. So the third piece that we built is for the active investing for investors who actually want to look at a screen who wants to track um particular tokens which is called Sodex and is still in the testing mode.

We were going to um launch it very soon. Using B was a no-brainer for us. It literally took us two seconds of discussions and because first of all we believe in the same vision of bring the world on chain right and the second is like you you guys have built so many um wonderful infrastructure that allow us to to build out our protocol for SSI which stands for social value indexes protocol. Um there are two pieces that we're trying to um fulfilled. one is how do money come in right like how do people um on random off branding uh money and then we're using uh a lot of the base building solution um for that and the second piece is the USDC compliancy we only used USDC pair um because it's transparent compliant ready and we want to um be able to tap into that whole infrastructure of it and working with base has been allowing us to ship it on the fastest level and then we're serving the investors needs better on base.

I would say just do it. In the very beginning, we didn't even know how daunting of a challenge would be. If we had known, we probably would take a a get longer time in terms of like taking off the journey. But like just building out something and to test it out and to very quickly get a feedback from your core user from the community and then to iterate on that has been the blessing. I would say going in with the right people and have fun along the journey.

Hi, I'm Jesse. I'm the co-founder of Social Value and we're building on base.
