Thomas Mattimore, Reserve: Too Many Narratives, Too Little Time

uh next up we have Thomas mattimore uh from Reserve ABC Labs who's back on stage to talk about too many narratives too little time uh welcome Thomas [Applause] everyone hello stable coin enthusiasts eight hours later these are the die hards in this room so I'm going to lean in a little bit today or tonight uh now uh into the unstable part of the unstable Summit uh and so a little bit today about too many narratives in too little time so I get into crypto in 2014 and uh back then there was about 10 things in crypto right uh there was uh and there wasn't too much going on uh since then um excuse me sorry uh ah there we are oh okay um so I had a lot of notes prepared that are not on the screen as I was expecting them to be uh so in 2014 when I got into crypto uh there was very little going on and it was very easy to keep up with everything the reality though thank you Jake this is GNA make it quite a bit easier um I remember using a smart contract for the first time uh it was kind of crazy yes it was a coin flip app uh the I lost meth on that uh I also remember watching punks mint uh I thought it was a waste of gas uh I then learned about bit Max and leverage I really wish I could unlearn that uh that was another big waste of things um but then I got really busy at a hypergo startup you know crypto was the thing that I loved and it was what I did in my free time but I got really really busy and I couldn't keep up uh the um the thing that I ran into in 2020 is I watch defi explode uh like absolutely explode but I was on the sideline I didn't have time to dig into things I didn't have time to uh test things out and understand what was going on and actually invest into things uh the who in here has a story let's make this a little interactive at 8:00 pm on Monday night of Devcon who in here has a story about them who here has missed out on a 2X opportunity raise your hands who has missed out on a 10x opportunity keep going who's missed out on 100x opportunity other people missed the punks Min yeah all right who missed out on a THX opportunity yeah there's still some hands up that sucks right like it really really hurts it that is not fun uh it really and the thing that I think sucks the most about it is it sucks to be at the right time uh to be there at the right place but to just not be able to capitalize on it so the problem for me in 2020 wasn't the fact that uh I didn't have the understanding it wasn't the fact that I didn't have the desire to uh get involved in this thing uh it was the fact that I just didn't have enough time and I didn't have the ability to do it quickly I've got so many things in my hands it's hard to keep up here uh so the reality is that time is finite and opportunities are infinite um and this is what I'd like to talk a bit about tonight so crypto and defi are currently speedrunning Financial history uh you know trafi has been going from for a very long time there were single stocks it expanded into mutual funds uh from there it went into ETFs you know recently we've been getting into the Thematic ETFs world uh the crypto and def5 markets have been doing the same thing and uh at at the same time we're relearning a lot of mistakes we're relearning about Ponzi Ponzi schemes um we're relearning about all kinds of different things uh each evolution of the financial Market has made markets more accessible and preserved the accessibility of those things while also enabling more people to get involved um 10 years ago in crypto as I was mentioning earlier as I was remembering all of my uh my notes uh there was 10 things in crypto right it was really easy to keep up uh everyone could be an expert in digital gold everyone could be an expert in you know Rising internet cultural memes that don't really have a purpose like Doge uh everyone could be a expert in decentralized file storage we are past those days there are 10,000 tokens launching every day now right that's insane uh there is absolutely no way uh to keep up with this fractured Market that is far too complex to actually deeply understand all the different areas uh four about four years ago at least it was for me crypto got way too hard to actually uh reasonably know what was going on in all of crypto it is expanding exponentially so what does the crypto experience look like today uh raise your hand if this is what your monitor looks like you've got to keep up on telegram you've got to keep up on Twitter you've got to keep up on uh you know foraster now uh another new Social Network which I actually do like but it is another venue that you need to keep up on things uh deck screener coin market cap like there's all these different things right you've got Alpha groups you've got your friends text messages some of the new friends that actually have good interesting text messages some of the old ones you introduced to crypto a long time ago that are now texting you about their crypto tokens uh it's really really difficult to keep up uh Lightning Fast narrative formation communities spring up overnight all of a sudden that's like a whole new thing uh um the uh the signal is there it's you you might get it in a a bunch of different places but it's really difficult to actually dive in and take advantage and once you do like have this Insight uh what are you going to do are you really going to go and research all these new things are you going to go and become you know in the old days there was like one new thing a year where you could go dive deep on you know decentralized file storage on the blockchain right that was really cool that was like a new use case but that was like one thing in you know like a three-year period now there's as I mentioned 10,000 tokens launched in a day and so how do we make that Insight that you've gotten from your friend groups and from all your you know Twitter feeds and all those different things into actual an actual investment dtfs what are dtfs dtfs are more than a risque a acronym dtfs are decentralized token folios uh it's oneclick exposure to entire narratives uh you know Kobe says defi is back click you've got a DTF that is giving you exposure to that uh Uncle Steve sends you a text message telling you about cat memes click you got cats in your in your wallet uh you know AI is popping off on Twitter click you're in on the AI token DTF th this is uh dtfs have like professional decentralized curation uh they have automatic rebalancing and last but certainly not least dtfs are built on the reserve protocol and we bring all of the security uh that is currently securing uh $300 million of tvl uh that same build process that same uh security level will be bringing uh you the security on these dtfs as well so what I'm here to tell you today at
