water well we're here to talk about what we've been learning with a group of 20 innovators in the space you know these leaders in the Cooperative creative creativity Movement we hosted everyone yesterday and it was everyone from you know people in Hollow chain uh upside down cabin down get coin and our goal was to start to pull together actual like tools tactics practical applications of doubt and community so part of this is we want to actually make it interactive as well and get a sense of what you guys actually want to learn about so we'll start with a few introductions you can get a sense of who's here and make this a dynamic conversation so my name is Elena podricks I run a Dao research investment arm called Eve wealth focus on getting women invested in crypto and kind of Revolution revolutionizing the way we think about wealth management so I'll be moderating today and I'll have everyone introduce themselves hi I'm Kalyn sliney I am an ex-venture lawyer and current founder and CEO of magnetic which is a digital memberships platform building Community for Brands and leveraging nfts to do so hi I'm Molly Gardner I'm a writer and creative director and I work mostly in finding ways to change language in order to affect economic and natural systems and Tomlinson I'm a Serial entrepreneur mostly building brands with celebrities and people of influence and helping good people do hard things to make the world a little bit better all right so we're gonna get started I want to kick off with a question to yev so a lot of us are managing with a lot of uncertainty about structures ways to organize and that can even include legal structures so there's a ton of complexity you have an amazing background in the world of legal and web free I would love to hear what's what are you seeing in terms of structures and ways of organizing that are working the things that are working the best are currently um Dows and llc's that operate and mirror sort of existing legal structures limited Cooperative arrangements and Agreements are these associations are new and acceptable and you know a handful of States but we're still Paving the way and so I think a lot of what we're looking at is community building in a way that still has an overarching framework and I call it the the bumpers on the Bowling Lanes where you give people their self-determination you let the community rule but you give them parameters within which to do so so I think a lot of freedom but within a structured um you know just like this space within us freedom within a structure however you structure that llc's lcas um some of them are in fact LPS if they're investment vehicles Dows are recognized entities of their own in certain States and so whatever sort of whatever pathway you're taking I think what we're seeing is the most effective is still just make sure making sure that there is an overarching structure that gives people I wouldn't say rules but sort of um Concepts on upon which to operate how many people here have actually set up whether it's an LLC or an LCA anyone right yeah yeah it was awesome what yeah I know it's I mean it's it's an important thing to kind of learn about the different Frameworks that you can possibly have um and so you know knowing the few lawyers in the world that I can actually help with that killing you're definitely one of them and so as you have actually in the audience right there who is part of the discussion so we'll we can talk a little bit more about Frameworks but one of the most important Frameworks we've been discussing is actually Ryan the role that you've had in language right and the um how are ideas spread and propagated because at the end of the day Dows and communities and what we're trying to accomplish just with groups of people organizing is a common Vision around an idea for the future and you've worked with Brands like Virgin Galactic Tyler the Creator Kanye Pharrell like just a whole slew of visionary Brands and talent that have to think about their voice in the world so what are the things like the major principles you look at when you're thinking about how ideas propagate in the world a strong a strong story a strong mythology of the origin story the founder has to be charismatic strong belief a strong value system and very simply communicated and I think we there's the idea of like uh being able to communicate something that someone can then pass on because it it permeates People to People right person to person so if you have a really beautiful idea that's strong and captivating and connects at a human level with someone else you could share it with you have to share it in a way that they can receive it to go share it again and then it just starts to pick up momentum so that's what I you know that's the core of it is branding right so we always think of like the right brand which encapsulates those values the purpose the the drive behind it in a very simple and contagious way that's easily spread and easily shared right that's a step one I think you know you talk about we're asking more about Community before or two or is just specifically how things permeate and right because at the end of the day Dallas are just communities and I think we're also emerging out of this concept of Dao you know and really trying to connect with how do people move and you know coordinate together um and we'll dive in more because I would love to hear some of like the Practical examples you've dove into especially with Anheuser-Busch um to share with the group but I do want to give a chance to for Molly for you to share um you've been part of this process of defining the next narrative so helping us bring this group together start to Define this new narrative and you have set a lot of your intention and life around this integrative personality being you know in transition yourself you have a lot of thoughts on how narratives form and the role of power and narrative can you share a little bit more about that yeah absolutely I mean metaphor is incredibly important as a trans person the metaphor that's often used is you know I'm born in the wrong body or something like that but that shapes the way that people approach trans care and it looks a transition as though something that must be rectified you have to fix it right but if you use a different metaphor you know like I'm changing my body or I'm ascending to some different form to be kind of woo-woo that makes a difference but when it comes to technology Technologies you know that they're working when they're shaping the metaphors that we use to talk about life and our minds so you know the metaphor of the steam engine was a huge part of Freudian psychology right that got baked in because it was already part of the culture then computers came around and we started talking about people's brains as computers that processed so the question for for blockchain for Dao for these sort of autonomous Community structures is how do you take that metaphor and embed it in language and explain it to people that's so simple that they think oh that's the way everything works that's the way my brain works and so I think that's really the challenge that we're looking at here we all know we're in a period of massive uncertainty and transformation and a huge paradigm shift that's that's happening and after sort of a lot of the bad news in crypto or the crypto winter um there's been sort of a reset in what that next narrative is and the space between narratives and I think that uncertainty has caused a lot of tension for people that feeling of wanting to step into the future but when you do the floor is no longer beneath you right the future almost isn't ready those new structures aren't ready so one of the things that we've been doing is gathering in conversation if we think about evolution is a aggregation of a critical mass of human consciousness coming to consensus and consensus is is really just a personal belief in a narrative so we've talked a little bit about like how narratives catch fire but we actually specifically have gathered uh quite a few people in conversation everyone who's here today but also the daos and the communities and the legal the creatives that were with us last night and I really wanted to spend the time on this panel like talking about some of those big ideas that started to come out from that discussion so my next prompt and Kalyn maybe you can take this one is what was one of the most interesting examples that you heard last night that you would want to share we had a lot of them I think I don't mean to take my own example but I actually think Molly and Lou and I talked a great deal after the panel about or after the Gathering about what are the fundamental tools that we can help people understand from a framework that they already get what are the tools how do we break it down more simply whether it's we all understand the utility of a hammer right that will never stop being useful until we stop living in a physical world and when you can as Molly's talking about make a metaphor that makes sense to something people already have rooted in their Consciousness it's so much easier to move ahead once you've got and as you said Alana like consensus around what that means going forward and drawing also from some of Ryan's examples like when we create a Common Language and understand the you know the Linguistics of it assigning words abstracting away the complexity taking away the jargon I thought that was one of the most unifying thoughts because everybody we spoke with had different approaches and different reasons to get there but we all agreed that you're not going to gain Mass adoption or traction without you know a touch of education but you need to root that in something that people already understand so getting to the very building blocks of a language that can push people forward another theme that came up last night was like profit right one of the most common languages that we have in our system right now is this idea of of money and value and what we observed in some of the discussion was the communities that we're interacting with our challenged by the way of creating that regenerative value especially in the context of community the question is is there even a way to Value community and if so you know how does that become part of an ecosystem that actually can support itself in the long term and we got into things like at this point it feels like there's really either you sell an nft or a token and you then kind of like live off of this you know finite supply of resource maybe memberships and things like that or you raise venture capital and you get struck with a fully different set of expectations on growth right you're completely playing in a new stratosphere Ryan I'm curious how do you value Community what do you how do you think about LTV of community if at all yeah it's massive that's I mean I think that the word itself is what the most valuable piece of any of these projects that I've seen over and over again it's like if you have people that are jumping in to profit really fast and short-term thinking they're gone that's like that doesn't bring any value that's not traction from an Investor's perspective on a community that's building fast for a bunch of people that are lurking to get profit and extract value a true Community is feeding and a common Unity of people commuting around a Common Language common places common things that are of value to each other in that Community right it's people places and things a system that works to build reciprocity within that and it's fueled by social content right so communication and valuable content that's not just and also has to be like two-way two-dimensional a lot of listening which is why I think the best digital communities are the ones that also have a physical uh twin or vice versa right so the lifetime value of that is amazing and we talked a lot about some of the communities that are built in certain Dow structures that have a shelf life or a life because at some point when there's too much value created by one person or one subgroup they end up leaving so how do you capture that how do you continue to tether that and bring that back in and I think if you have a real strong sense of meaning shared common language shared mental maps that Community just grows and should become big bigger and in principle and have a really strong lifetime value right totally agree one of the other Concepts that came up pretty um fairly in last night's discussion was what are the core foundational principles of this new space that we're moving into and this idea of masculine feminine Yin or yang this idea of what are the ingredients of both like your internal world that then gets projected out to the companies you build the technical architecture and also your community architecture is really real and I know it's been on a lot of people's mind like what does it mean to be like in the feminine or to be bringing in more feminine principles into business or the economy and Molly I'd love to have your perspective on this as we've been you know diving on this together and you also in your own internal exploration of like what femininity and masculinity means as an integrated self yeah so I'll make this quick because we're running out of time but again this is where metaphor becomes incredibly important when you think about capitalism it's often talked about as though it's a natural force we're just working with the market we don't know what it does but if you change the metaphor and you think of capitalism as an intelligence and artificial intelligence it's the strongest one that's ever been you don't want to just adapt to it you want to find a way to reprogram it and you have to change it so traditional left forms of organizing of abolishing capitalism they're not successful you have to use the tools against itself and that's sort of like Jiu Jitsu is a phrase that that Ryan used yesterday comes from a very feminine impulse of adjusting or um adapting to rather than stopping or fighting against right so I think that's that's my personal View we're right on time but thank you for sharing we are really excited that we'll be taking everything that we learn everything we've been building in the session before and Beyond into a library concept called Xerox Library uh Xerox Alexandria which coin buys has been developing the sub-platform behind and we'll actually be having this place to publish content on the Cooperative economy uh the first will be a Manifesto that came from this incredible group of leaders including everyone who's here today so thank you for joining for you know really defining the principles of what this next new world can look like and for everyone who is here today thank you thank you [Music]
