Swarm Alpha Online Event - Ecosystem panel & demos by Dan Nickless

SwarmFri, Oct 9, 2020, 12:00 AM

Website: https://swarm.ethereum.org/ Apply for grants: https://swarmgrants.typeform.com/to/SbrJiiiL Time for real life examples The event started to lean in its final stage and it was time to bring out some real world projects that are already benefiting from Swarm’s technology. Dan Nickless showed us Fairdrop, a decentralised and completely private file-sharing dapp, followed by Kiki who got us smiling with her decentralised, p2p social app, Instaswarm. Instaswarm is just a fun idea at the moment, but already packs some pretty powerful chops. It’s a social feed based on personal data that remains private, while sporting donation possibilities to other individuals using the app, rewards for looking at sponsored ads and a p2p marketplace. The really powerful feature though is account recovery. What makes it so unique is the ability to retrieve your profile at any time, no central authority banning you or standing in your way. This gives people real control over their data! But the project we became enamoured with is Vizyon. Pierre demonstrated something with literal life-saving consequences. Vizyon shares radiological data and AI capabilities with health institutions across the world, especially those in developing nations. The best thing about it is that doctors across five continents can access that precious data regardless of the platform they use. And Swarm’s robust encryption gives much more security and privacy to the sensitive patient data. To date, they have treated more than 6.000 patients, they were able to offer free IA diagnosis during the covid-19 crisis and soon they’ll save genomic data of patients on the Swarm network. “We believe that healthcare applications can be on the forefront of blockchain use,” Pierre firmly stated. Attila was the last in line for practical demonstrations showing first the swapchat app which can create an encrypted communication channel between two parties. But the real kicker was their approach to creating a social network called Niche, where individuals can send each other links that create a secure connection among them and can this way establish their own private social networks.

well you have another panel coming up this time very practical thing I mean we are now going to dive into actual gaps that are using swarm as their bike Boone and I say that a band I would love to invite you and to open up your camera and your howdy-ho then are you with us today Michelle I am yes life from the UK summer in UK I guess yeah I love your lighting it's very party like well done so then I will hand it over to you because you have four amazing projects already to demo their stuff and to show us what they were doing on farms so please go ahead and show us that's the exactly right Michelle thanks so much yeah we're gonna try and cram in four demos so you'd like to welcome our lovely paddle and show their faces if they could we've got a silver from far fella Kiki with insta swarm and Pierre from vision and well these guys are they represent part of what is there a nascent but very strong and enthusiastic ecosystem that lives around swarm and really kind of believes in the mission and we will save the world we'll get there and so both over the last few years we've been having the privilege to work with the pre-existing swarm client and said learn how to kind of use that to build decentralized applications that can run in a production level environments that means scaled stable and and also using these new paradigms that decentralized development or lend us and so I'm gonna show you a diagram it's kind of give some idea of what that means so what I have here is there this is an explanation of centralized versus decentralized app so you can see on the left hand side we've got a past situation web 2 we've got this like mess of all these different components or brittle all kind of like single role interconnected many of them in in places that make the architecture fractured and bristle and linear send flies that and and hence insecure and that this is the kind of life I put a box around it a lot of these things live in AWS and and other huge kind of corporations so you can see that these are these are insecure they're centralized they're prone to censorship and so on now on the right hand side we've got the decentralized analog which is just simply two components really usually in the case of a hybridize that will have swarm and the blockchain but sometimes maybe we might not even need the blockchain and in the sent in this environment any of these nodes getting knocked out and the other one will simply take its place you can see we were dealing with much much better much more robust kind of environment so and to this end we've been kind of trying to work out how to put these apps together I've been working on application called fair drop which then I'm gonna play you a demo movie off since walk over it and save us a bit of time so this is built entirely using just swarm and theory and EVM based blockchain backing it so you can see you know you can't being created that's using EMS and to handle all the key management and so on and then we've built an application around it and enables you to store files these are encrypted and we've also got prototypes storage in sensitization there and you can then also send files to each other and you can check this out on fair drop XY sense or working it's been it's been running for it over a year now and we're we're happy with where it's at so that's my one and then I'm going to pass you over to Kiki next is to show you another application is just been working on called instance warm yes thank you damn so yeah I'm Kiki and for a few years with them from City we've been looking into how to create a peer-to-peer commerce platform and one of the things that was always like difficult is the decentralized storage and messaging and with swarm coming along it feels first like okay now finally we can get this thing going so I'll so we kick started this little project that we call instace form to see if we got all the building blocks together and yeah I'll share my screen with you and yes there it is so what you see here is like it's a live demo so normally everything should go well but it's like always a little bit exciting so he sees a feat that's pretty familiar to people right you get normal posts then you get a special kind of post like a fundraiser some thing is like you can just put something on there and say like if you want to donate something just go ahead you can do that people posting stuff this is a sponsored ad basically and a fun thing here is like how we envision it this whoever watches an ad should be rewarded for it and again this is fairly easy to do with the contracts and stuff like that so yeah I watch it I earn some money for it sounds fair right posting things and then the real peer-to-peer commerce platform basically starting with someone saying I want to sell this who wants to buy it from me and Little Shop spins out of it so these are like four basic source of posts that people can just put up ok so now I want to start interacting with with the platform I will need a user account right so this is the first step that like actually works with SCORM right now so yeah let's create an account so I'm going to do it okay so the only thing we use is like an onic to create your keeper so we think that people should be a little bit re-educated with not saving shades and files or hashes but just write down these words keep them somewhere safe a little bit like any old days this is your backup for like later on restoring this or getting access to all your data that will be still stored on swarm so what I'm gonna do now is a bad example and I'm gonna quickly copy it don't do this at home so we could go to the next step and then yeah you guys know how this works right I have to fill in the words again move you guys over here where are my little words here so now a little bit of firm waiting music would be nice okay got something wrong here Oh other words you what am I doing wrong word number 9 okay possible and okay so I've got like they were checking if all the words were correct ly written down so what what's happening now is actually that um swarm there's a topic created on your feet so with your your private key we create on swarm a feed with the topic let's user data and all these data will be stored there so I'm gonna fill in the name I'm gonna give myself a little avatar yes there I am now we have to encrypt our public key sorry private key on our device with a little password and it's done so this was simply the whole user creation face and from now on I can just go into the app and participate there will be some next steps and that makes it a little bit more interesting like we're gonna do like trust network where people have to validate each other like say yeah I like this you he can come on boards and that way we enter changed a little bit of gas for the first time you so it's gonna be little network with spreads out and gives more and more users a chance to interact with smart contracts that are on material so from now on we think like we have to two main parts like older things with validations with interacting with contracts with your wallets that can be on a theorem on a blockchain everything as storage and your user data all your feeds everything you do will be stored on swarm so now I'm gonna show you how easy it is to restore it so I'll just remove my account it's gone I clear my cache so you're sure I'm not cheating yes oh I say restore accounts I just paste oh no I just pace I just not spaced well that's what happens when you do something live and it doesn't work hmm I'm gonna cheat a little now on I'm gonna do it again to show you that really works it's important to me okay I made a new account right I'm copying it all you have to go through all this [Music] and thanks for your patience here yep I'm gonna show you that my picture will come back yeah okay so what happened again encrypted private key yes okay so we moved in this before I remove my account now yes I want to remove it gonna clear everything do we need the game store my account yes you are yeah it works so you know I'm not lying here again I have to encrypt it because this is just on my device it's not if it doesn't come from swarm yay so yeah sorry for that like second round there but I thought it was important to show you this is actually worth working with swarm it's like fairly easy to create a user and to restore your user like for not now at this case it's just like your simple data but will be your whole feed everything you likes anything will be all in topics transformed and you can just like move it to another accounts just with like you're starting with your seed fries that was it for me back to you then I'll stop sharing my screen yeah great thanks so much Kiki and then yeah love you look and feel I'm really excited to see that come together and this is my exciting process and what one of the things that probably is worth highlighting is that all the bees all the encryption and signing is also based on like a theory incompatible in elliptic curve key pairs so actually all this data in all the that you're seeing those completely capable of being open by the other rap so we do have interoperability because the user retains control of their data in in all cases so we're gonna move on snout to Pierre from vision and going to Dan he's gonna show the application that he's had in production some time now yes I'm gonna share my screen with you and so I'm a co-founder of vision I'm a radiologist well the situation that we face is that only a very radiologist number in the world and most of them in which country a patient do not have access to our current engine algorithm and the artist Yogi's even hard in developed country and also the privacy is often not good in available session so we needed to empower the patient and we also needed a very strong solution our mission it was to give access everyone to the best human an option agents federal recall expertise we had to be trusted reliable and fast so we placed this the passion that our privacy at the center of our software and basically we needed to invent Elstree so we started to way to work one year and alphago traumatically is hell 3 vs. else version 1 and we had a wonderful team a to do that and then we get solution which is privacy by design a trusted system relying on swarm material itself is distributed and we haven't Oba interoperability with hospitals IT environment and active user interface to free divide the process so I'm gonna share the application directly so we thought that and can you see my screen it's okay yeah so basically to show the process we have technologies in hospital that will receive a patient from the PAC system then it can just add the daikon data from the patient so then we add the data the data will be asked using swarm then will be added to the contract so it's a type the movie to say same content we can have samples to the request for the specification that we need for the patient and then we're able to send the patient that to the radiologist so in another part of the world we have the radiologist so it's okay it's and we have the word resist logging in and then you will have access to the patient that was just sent here the ability to download the DICOM for the patient so you can see it's from swarm and it's fast and we have huge data transfer like this every day I will show some metrics later then reading the data of the patient sorry for the non radiologist people for example T's was a very strong coven infection in a patient in Africa so you can you can see them the green glass opacities in the lung then after reading with the vocal detection system that I will not show here it was ever copied then the radiologist will have the report make a digital signature on the report and send it know here you can have the report readings and here the I'm sorry for that up the technologist can just get we have also integration with all IT in hospital but ok is the report I just signed so to go back to the presentation there are there is a big team and Nicola the lead developer will show explain new words and very rude Nicola yes so can you hear me one wonderful ok so no you're just so small to know session so stuff now yeah like Jamaa so basically we use a stack with smoke on track to under all the business logic so all the rides your horse different part of the process using a pin state machine to have a provable system to enforce availability and with this as what data are we users is one infrastructure so with the holistic we can mimic yeah what we can stack everyone knows all right now with the crude interface and what is very interesting is that because the system for you well it's quite transparent that you are using a free different system for most of all user so no other the next slide will see always your system over so basically we will be created multi act of trust universe you can see that was your very small version we consist of gas and swamp node inside those L Center can be the front side of Earth Center then it will be connected to some veg into that sahaja Yogi's videos but between we can add some aiai system can be different part of the world to pre-process and do a pre diagnosis on the analyze data and then we can also have also a wok going to either like authoring pizza for every joint uh Tony's a duty or Kapiti I was a processed one dollar only pure AI system for Nepal what we deserve to cook it so basically with Joshi texture with his truck enabled us to connect all the different actor which I found out the system in sconce you know inside one platform without messaging is a trust issue we can have one also system so to give you some some some some small metrics for each exam that Chi available download is the abbot with 10 the final megabyte with that worked well some study requested some reporter at most familiar byte much is that some very big exam data coming inside the cells from the truck to the ash in the sensor system we have not the 540 not we even made tests with another idea to send from the for Polish 280 so basically whether an exam that measure I won't trip around the world Iran we have encryption of all Z data because there are private data they're very sensitive data as involved else data for a patient which network gigabyte of detection daily with Auto patient means that a lot of a big load of data for network and since the very beginning it why should they have that I turned on her own swamp system and all this using the release version so dominated modifying anything just adding some flag for all Network so to talk about the achievement right now we are taking about thousand five hundred patients every month some more than 6000 patient to date most of them in and one oak we were able to fully given action taejun's plugin tuned for kava diagnosis we gave it for free in our hospitals in France during the current crisis in less than 24 house because of the strong team grab we were able to be fully integrated into the hospital IT environment and we are also able to collect clothing radiology facility ingest of friends they were closing we have been saving your seven jobs it's a big achievement for us now we are running nuts and customers on five continents we have been granted by a IET else grant too because they recognized our expected impact patient privacy management and within two weeks we will also store some genomic data of patients the BMA which is a very sensitive information using out network and suami so to showcase off some pictures with a patient you should cover you saw a cavitation on the left here it's a jewelry from the 14 years of patient there in congo on the right it's recovered patient that was diagnosed automatically is not contagious plug-in or not system so we have created this on trends of the wide multi-platform blockchain was used to create the positive social and it come back for for everyone if we were to have a benefit for the people and we think that healthcare applications can be a flagship of the based on traditions and ecosystem and this way we are building the x3 platform and we would like special thanks to the swarm amit worm teams because nothing have been possible without you because our partners we thank them also and thank you very much amazing thanks so much pierre made some really great work there and great city swarm working in production moving terabytes of data and you're fighting real human impacts like going was going back to what jordi was saying so that's what we're here for at the end of the day and now I'd like to move on to a teller he's got a slightly different take on working with swimwear as all these other applications have been hybrid applications that also involve a blockchain it actually doesn't need it there's applications you girls will just swarm so we're gonna see some examples of that over Sooey hello everyone I'm not alone I'm from the favela Foundation and we are building decentralized social applications and protocols and I would like to talk about two projects the first one is called swab chat which we build on last year in Madrid with Luis from the swarm team and then from fair bitter society and it's it's an anonymous ephemeral enter an encrypted chat application which is quite a mouthful so I will show you what it is because it's easier to understand I will share my screen so basically it's a DEP that is running on swarm app and it's using swarm and and you just fire it up all right Oh this is how it looks like it's loading quite slow but yeah here it is so I generated a QR code and the link and this is oh this is surprise demo effect somehow I just got connected which is surprising so hmm so this is Alice she opens this window she wants to share something with Bob in private and never mind so my fans security HD yeah it seems like someone is joining please stop trolling us alright let me try again okay so you have to copy the link or scan the QR code and then send it over to Bob who opens this and then there will be a connection between the two yes we are connected hey Bob hey Alice so this is how it works it's a very simple but it can be used to send over like links or keys between different devices or different people I use it sometimes to share things on my TV or things like this but this is not a production-ready application but it's a very good demo of what you can do with swarm and actually it works by using swarm fields and just form low feeds which is also called single owner chunks now a and I will show diagram how it works so basically Elise creates two keepers in the beginning an ephemeral identity for herself and a temporary temporary feed identity which she sends over to Bob in the link or in the QR code along with her public key then Bob also creates his ephemeral identity and at that point Bob can create a shared secret with an elliptic pde Hamel and then Bob sends back on this temporary feed which he has write access his own public key and then Alice paused this temporary feed and then she receives Bob's public key they both have the shared secret and then they can set up private encrypted communication channel and then they can pull each other's ephemeral identity feed for updates and so this is like you know it's a toy application we want it to like make it sure make sure that it looks like a toy it's like using this 8-bit style which I like very much but also it turns out that this thing is very useful because you can use this to set up any kind of like you can use this for basically for public key exchange and this is a big problem so the other project we are working on is a social media application which is to an inch and it's a mobile application and we decided to to use to try to build this as much as you can on swarm and hide as much as details of the blockchain from the users because that can be really intimidating for like everyday users who are not programmers or developers you know these very long numbers are very intimidating sometimes so we decided to use this key exchange process which I just described to basically to bootstrap the network so that you can send over these links or scan the QR codes with phones and send over the links from existing message receiving applications and platforms and with that you can build your own network and we are trying to build a different kind of social network because we think that like building facebook on swarm would just result Facebook a swarm and that may not be the thing that we would like so we are building a private application where there are no ads and we anticipate the swarm platform Ament channels so that users can pay directly for the content and they can actually you know like make sure that your data is stored and yeah the good thing is what Dan mentioned before that like all this data but we use also the interim identities that is interoperable with with others and also all this what I showed you is open source and we are building open protocols so this can be potentially shared with other applications and the data belongs to the user and yeah I think what one thing I want I think one thing I want to add to this for presentation is that I think that so we like swarm because we feel like that it has the potential to become a full-fledged application platform not only a storage layer where you store information so this was my presentation and back to down brilliant thanks so much for that I said it yet I love their niche it's looking amazing looking some great ideas and again it's like beautiful humanistic altruism born out of swarm which is what we like to see as well as that has also been working on other projects in the last couple of weeks with Lewis from swarm team building on top of B now B represents sort of bigger shift changing the way that we were approaching things in terms of building on swarm you could turn the screenshare off at OA I'll briefly show you guys where you can find out more information about this little bit stuff time so I'll be brief so the book is swarm has been recently released and you can see goes to the table of contents you'll find section 2 chapter 2 very much around Network and then this is pretty much kind of comprises the disk so the chunk level distribution of data amongst the network but if you go end through incentives to chapter 4 you'll find the height high level functionality section and this is where all these higher data constructs and kind of like a methodologies there that have been thought over over the last five years and really distilled down to something that we're been looking forward to building and so take a quick look at that and you can see at this that we go from like chunk level at three files directories feeds various different indexing systems and integrity protection messaging constructs using PSS so as the third part of the Trinity the messaging component which is something that's relatively new and really looking forward to developing some apps using that and then also we've got very exciting prospects down here on page 162 right this is a diagram showing all the different low level primitives that are existing in swarm which we've really managed to distill into something very kind of like specific and and concise and so the plan is here so implement DSL domain-specific language called buzz which war and fastly improved their possibilities of being able to run code in swarm with property integrity protection and give a whole new level of security to the user that's just the taster and something that we'll be looking at in the future so I'll just wrap up now and say thanks so much to our beautiful panelists for showing the demos if you'd like to get in touch with us and sort back yeah we'll find out more please check out the website we can speak to some matter most anytime you like and of course read the book and then finally and just like to reveal that we are in the process of releasing some grants we're launching those today and so far though normal channels to find out how to apply but there's ten grants of max 10k guy worth of bzz tokens up for grabs for the best applicants oh and say do check that out and get in touch with us I'm very excited to see what you guys come up with okay with that no further ado thanks see everyone and back to Michelle well then thank you so much yet those were like awesome demos thank you so much for that you found some brilliant people who are working on really great stuff
