i am so happy and proud to be welcoming you to this historic event today we celebrate the main at launch of swarm and the 1.0 release of bee my name is michelle plour and as a communications lead for the swarm foundation i will be your host during this event let's go back in time a little bit to 2015 when ethereum was still just an idea a team of brilliant people came together to create the world's computer for something to be called a computer you need three parts a processor storage and messaging to send data to the processor and back ethereum plays that processor role messaging would be done by whisper and the storage component is what became swarm it was conceived by gavin wood and brought to a brought to reality by viktor strong and daniel nagy for years swarm was researched and prototyped from within the ethereum foundation around a year ago swarm graduated from the ethereum foundation to become its own independent foundation the vision of a safe fare and decentralized internet where people can communicate privately and where users can share data without worrying a man in the middle is looking over their shoulders goes back to the cypherpunk movement in the early 90s it was always known that the solution would lie in peer-to-peer mechanics but what was missing was an accounting system that made sure that every participant acts in a fair and balanced way with swarm's main at launch and the bus token distribution we now finally have all the ingredients in place to run a network of notes who have the incentive to create a healthy and solid network in the next three hours or so you will be hearing from the founders of swarm the development team the people running the ecosystem and you will also see a lot of demos of apps and solutions that you swarm to achieve their previously impossible mission and vision we will also have a team ama at the end of the program which might be performed in discord the qr code you will be seeing throughout this event leads you to our discord community where moderators and community members are standing ready to welcome you
