Hedera x Claude Code AI Skills for Hackathon Builders I Logan Nguyen

ETHGlobalSun, Aug 9, 2026, 12:00 AM

In this workshop at ETHGlobal New York 2026, Logan Nguyen, an engineer at Hashgraph, shows hackathon builders how to move faster on Hedera using its open source collection of AI plugins and skills. He opens with a recap of Hedera for the mixed audience: it is a fully EVM-compatible L1, so anything built on Ethereum (MetaMask, Solidity smart contracts, Foundry, ethers.js) migrates and works out of the box, plus native protocol services like the Hedera Token Service (ERC-20 and ERC-721 style tokens with built-in KYC, freeze, pause, and royalty fees, no separate Solidity contract needed), the Hedera Consensus Service for messaging and topic subscription, a schedule service for on-chain automation, smart contract service, and more. He notes Hedera processes over 10,000 transactions per second with roughly 3-second finality, low fixed and predictable fees (a fraction of a cent), and a carbon-negative network. Logan then introduces Hedera Skills, the open source collection of plugins and skills built by Hedera's DevRel team, covering six capabilities: the hackathon helper, an agent kit plugin (for building AI agents that interact with the network via natural language using the Hedera Agent Toolkit), dev intelligence for scaffolding and session tracking, native services JavaScript (interacting with native services via the SDK without Solidity), system contracts (the Solidity counterpart for the same services), and the recently added Hedera CLI reference. He goes deep on the hackathon helper's two skills: hackathon PRD, run before writing any code, which teaches Claude, Cursor, or Codex to read Hedera's criteria, ask questions, narrow scope to a demoable MVP, and produce a buildable product requirements document, and validate submission, run before submitting, which does a mock judging pass against Hedera's seven criteria to catch bugs. He live-demos installing the hackathon helper in Claude with three commands and generating a PRD, then introduces the Hedera docs MCP server, which solves AI knowledge cutoff by giving agents a search tool over always-up-to-date documentation, SDK references, and code examples via one command to a remote hosted server. He closes with the four bounty tracks (AI agent, agentic payments, tokenization with no Solidity, and autonomous on-chain automation) and $15,000 in prizes. 00:00 Introduction 00:11 Meet Logan and the Goal of the Workshop 00:32 The Idea: Open Source Plugins and Skills 01:04 A Quick Recap on What Hedera Is 01:30 Why Your EVM Stack Works Out of the Box 01:44 Native Services: The Hedera Token Service 02:27 The Consensus, Schedule, and Smart Contract Services 02:59 Throughput, Finality, and Low Fees 03:35 Why Hedera Is a Carbon-Negative Network 04:24 36 Hours and $15,000 in Prizes 04:51 Introducing Hedera Skills 05:37 The Six Capabilities in the Repo 06:02 The Agent Kit and Dev Intelligence Plugins 06:36 Native Services JavaScript vs System Contracts 07:12 The Recently Added Hedera CLI 07:44 Going Deeper: The Hackathon PRD Skill 08:21 How the PRD Skill Narrows Your Scope 09:00 The Validate Submission Skill 09:36 A Mock Judging Pass Before You Submit 09:52 Live Demo: Installing the Hackathon Helper 10:53 Generating a PRD From an Idea 11:21 How the Skill Asks Questions to Brainstorm 12:47 Claude Generates the PRD 13:13 Introducing the Hedera Docs MCP Server 13:39 Solving the AI Knowledge Cutoff Problem 14:28 One Command to Add the Server 14:58 Using the Server With Natural Language 15:42 Recapping the Two Tools 16:03 The Four Bounty Tracks and Prizes 16:31 Closing _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ *ETHGlobal New York 2026* This workshop is specifically for ETHGlobal New York 2026, a 3-day hackathon held June 12-14 at the Metropolitan Pavilion, bringing together the most skilled web3 developers, designers and product builders from all around the globe for a weekend-long adventure to advance the Ethereum ecosystem! Good. Again, thank you so much to all the guys who joined me today. My name is Logan, and I'm one of the engineers at Hasgraph. Today we will talk about how to speed up or develop Hideera faster for a hackathon. The idea is quite simple.

Hideera has an open source plugin for a collection of open source plugins and skills. Over the next 20 minutes, I'll try to go over all of these to make sure you know what they are, how to install them, and how to actually use them. First of all, I thought that many of you have different experiences, and some of you may already be familiar with Hideera, and some of you may not. So I thought it would be fair to briefly talk about Hideera, right? So, Hideera, um, we are a fully EVM- um, we are a fully EVM- compliant L1 network, and that means if you build something on Ethereum and then, um, you know, your entire tech stack runs on Hader out of the box.

Wow. One second. Good. We need to share a little. In any case, yes.

Hmm, I was saying, hmm, hmm, yeah Hmm, I was saying, hmm, hmm, yeah , you know, things like MetaMask or, hmm, a MetaMask or, hmm, a Solidity smart contract, Foundry, E3JS, literally anything that you've built on top of any EVM-compatible network, you can port all of that, you know, migrate it to Hideera, plug it in, and it should work out of the box. And then, um, on top of that, we also have, um, um, built-in services directly into the protocol, um, you know, things like the Hera Token service; it works exactly like ERC20, ERC 721, with built-in, um, KYC, freeze, pause and, um, royalties and literally everything. And then, because this is built directly into the ledger, you don't need a separate Solidity smart contract for each token, which is quite convenient because you can experiment with the functionality of the token right on top of the network. And then we had HCS, which is short for Hideera consensus service. It's something like a protocol-level messaging and topic subscription system .

Then we have a scheduling service for automatic automation on the network, a smart network, a smart contract to run an EVM smart contract directly on top of Hera, and then we have much more. We have account service, file service, and much more. Also today, Hideera can process over 10,000 transactions per second, with an execution time of about 3 seconds. We also have a very low and, um, kind of transaction fee. We charge only fractions of a cent for each transaction, and it's fixed and predictable.

So, uh, there are never any surprises about the transaction fee, and then you essentially pay what you see. And, uh, also, uh , we're very proud that we're, uh, a carbon-negative network, which means, network, which means, uh, any transaction made on Hyera actually removes more, uh, carbon from the atmosphere than it emits. And, uh, it's quite, uh, strange to say, but yes, it is . And if you build on Hideera, then, uh, you build on a very sustainable, uh, network, and that's also one of the main goals that we try to, uh, achieve every time, because we care about the environment and all that. So yeah, that's, uh, the basic idea of Hideera, but there 's a lot more to Hideera that, you know, the Hasgraph team is trying to implement and make better and better every day.

We have really great teams. So, we have this QR code right at the bottom of the page. And if you scan it, it will take you to a page with a full review of Hideera. It's opportunities and information about, um, leadership boards and literally everything you want to know about Haider. So, that's, um, Hideera in a nutshell.

And now, you know, let's go back to the present moment present moment , where we're all here, um, this weekend. 36 hours, um, 36 hours, and then $15,000, um, at Hideera's prices. That's why we want to do this workshop to try to, um, get you the right tools in your hands before you write a single line of code. So without further ado, let me introduce you to Hideera’s skills. So, it's kind of an open, how to say, collection of plugins and skills designed specifically for Header developers and for those trying to build something on Hideera.

This is not exclusive to hackathons, but it can be anything you can do on Hideera, in the Hideera ecosystem. Yes, I also want to express my gratitude to the Hideera development and development team. They put a lot of thought and effort into it to provide good resources for developers so they can build on Hideera. So, do you want a little more time to scan the code, or is that okay? Everything is fine.

Perfectly. Perfectly. So, the Hideera skills repository. And we got a total of six opportunities. The first thing is a hackathon assistant.

These are very powerful and important skills that I would advise you to apply before writing even a single line of code. He has two skills: hackathon prd and submission review. But I'll go into a little bit about these two skills in the next slides. And then we have the agent kit plugin. This is a plugin that allows you to interact with artificial intelligence agents, you know, using Hera, the agent toolkit.

This is a framework that allows you to create artificial intelligence agents to interact with the network using, you know, natural language you know, natural language . And then we have, um, development intelligence. These are skills that help you build a project, check its status, and manage the session and everything else, basically helping you track progress track progress . And we know that native JavaScript allows you to interact with native Hyera services using only JavaScript from the SDK, and you don't need any Solidity smart contracts to play with them. And then we have system contracts.

This is a bit the opposite of JavaScript for native services in terms of language choice, right language choice, right ? System contracts allow you to experiment with the main system contract or contract or any native, er, services using a solidity, um, smart contract. So if you're confident in creating, uh, a solidity smart contract, uh, this is really for you. And finally, hyro cli, uh, it was added recently. Uh, I don't think was added recently.

Uh, I don't think it has much of an impact on this Python, but still want to include it. Uh, this is a reference to the HLI command line interface, uh, you know, the command line interface, and uh, HLI is a very powerful tool that allows you to do anything you want on the network with just a command. Uh, as promised, let's take a closer look at the hackathon's supporting plugins. So, the first skills of this plugin are hackathon prd. So, uh, again , like I said, you should definitely use this tool before you actually write any line of code, right?

For example, this tool will teach Claude, Cursor, or Codeex, whatever you're using, first it will go through all the Hideera resources, you know, like criteria and all that, and then it will ask you a bunch of questions, and then it will help you narrow down the size of your project to make sure you build the right, demo MVP, right? And then, as the name suggests, PRD, PRDs are shorthand for product requirements documents, right? And then these skills will help you write a good, uh, development plan. So be sure to use this before, uh, launching, uh, before creating a project. And then, uh, we have a submission check right here.

I just mentioned this a little earlier. So, before submitting your project, practice this skill. This skill will again teach your, uh teach your, uh , agents about, uh, everything that human agents at Hideera look for when we evaluate projects, right? It's as if we have different criteria. We have, you know, different evaluation criteria here.

We have seven of them, and then the skill will help you do a virtual assessment of your project, and then, if it, well, helps you assess it, do something like a mock judging session , and then, well, it will help you identify, well, errors and so on, right? Eh, just to make sure you're ready to submit. Uh, I'm not going to demonstrate this today, but I'm going to do a quick demonstration of hackathon cleanliness right now. So let's move on to, well, let me move this guy around a little bit. Well, let's do a quick live demonstration.

So, here are just three teams. Oh, and then I have my , well, you should see, yes, I have a quad bike ready here. It's just, well, uh, it's just the interface of my, well, iter terminal. So, in your cloud, you can your cloud, you can , well, run this command right here. I'll just copy it.

Go back. Paste here. And then I got, uh, it has...I added, uh, I did, uh, what do you call it? Marketplace.

And then I ran, uh, plugins I ran, uh, plugins to find the right tool right tool . And then I'll just try to find a hackathon assistant right here. And then I'll just install it. And finally, just reload the plugins. And then, if you search, there it is .

You have hackathon priority. And how to use it, how do you want to use it? It's very simple. Just create a hackathon priority for this idea. And again, you have to use your own idea.

It's just something that the claw threw at me when I was preparing for a presentation, uh. But I'll just copy all of this . And I...I'll put it here. And just like that, uh here.

And just like that, uh , Claude is going to, you know, go backstage and review the skills and then, uh, go over everything and then make sure that what's being said is...Yeah. Uh, please ask me questions. Yes. Yes me questions.

Yes. Yes . For the sake of the demo, I'll just tell it to, you know, give me a multiple choice question so I can, you know, do it easily. But in your case, where you're actually asking, uh, the skill about your own idea, I just want to give real, uh, want to give real, uh, answers to them, and then the skill will help you. I'll just choose what, uh, it gives me first .

And then again , like I said, it's going to ask a bunch of questions to help you brainstorm around the whole idea, uh, what you're going to create for the project. Uh, just send it. Yes. Many questions. But that's good, isn't it?

Because you don't want to build things that you, uh, you don't want to end up with a lot of feature scripts and then, uh, you don't have the, uh, enough time to build the one that's really important. Uh, I have everything I need. Give me need. Give me ...That's it.

So, after you answer all the questions, Claude will go ahead and then help you generate, um, PR, and that will take some time. So, um, I'm just going to leave this here and then try to get back to the slides because I have one more thing I want to show you, which is the Hideera docs MCP server. So, um, again, we have the skills, um, QR code here so you can scan it, but I also want to go over it quickly. So go over it quickly. So , the problem Hideera docs MCP server is trying to solve trying to solve , is that as we all know that clots, codecs or whatever agent, they have, um, knowledge cut off, as if they don't actually have live, um information all the time.

So, um, there might be SDK or API version updates, or new services being launched, etc., and then Cloud wouldn't be able to quickly , um, find out about them, right? And then this MCP right? And then this MCP server, uh, from our documentation, which, uh documentation, which, uh , runs on Minifi, and then we have a nice M MCP server, uh, there. We support the Hyera search tool Hyera search tool .

He will review every, uh , aspect of the documentation. It will search for all API references, SDK documentation, code examples, etc. So, uh, we have a great documentation team at Hideera, and then, uh, any update we publish to the documentation almost immediately. So all the information you can find there is always up to date, and, uh always up to date, and, uh , only one team. Uh, a remote HTTP Uh, a remote HTTP server hosted by Hideera, you don't have to host anything, and then you can just then you can just , uh, add the MCP server inside Claude, and then Claude will know what to do, basically.

Uh to do, basically. Uh , how do you do that, just one command, and here it's still running on my Purity, and, uh, I, uh, just open a new terminal here. Insert, uh... Insert, uh... Wait a second.

Let me try to get back to...Here it is . And then just like that . And then I added, uh . And then I added, uh , MCP server.

And then I can quickly create an MCP list. Uh, and then here you can see the documentation. And how you use it, for example, inside Cloud, CodeEx, Curse or something else, use your natural language. For example, uh, you could just, you know could just, you know , tell it to use the documentation header to show the fastest way to do whatever you want. For example, you can essentially, uh, do everything with, uh, live information from the documentation.

Uh, yes documentation. Uh, yes , that's the second point. Uh, to quickly summarize in this workshop, uh, we got the Hideera skills plugin. Here's that QR code right there for you if you missed it earlier. Uh, we also have documentation for the Hideera MCP server on all QRS.

And, uh, yes, that's two points. Good. And then, uh, we're running out of time. But running out of time. But , uh, if you have any questions, uh, come talk to me, or we have our own booth on the first floor, uh, and then you can find us there.

Very quickly, bounty: we have four directions: agent AI, tokenization of agent payments on Hyera (Solidity not allowed), and autonomous on-chain automation. And then we give away $15,000 in prizes. So, uh, that's what I want to share today. Uh, good luck. Thank you very much.
