Customizable NFTs with Greg Zaitsev

Ethereum DenverMon, Oct 9, 2023, 12:00 AM

Learn to build the most advanced NFT dApps with capabilities like re-fungibility, fractionalisation, nesting of NFTs and more just like it's web2. Greg Zaitsev Chief technology Officer Unique Network From his early success building prototypes and winning patents as a Lenovo Master Inventor, to his innovative work across cryptocurrency and NFTs, Greg Zaitsev has always had an eye towards the future of technology. Starting his journey in Moscow and later immigrating to the United States in 2003, Greg’s ability to take bold ideas from prototypes to production helped him transition from consumer electronics to the forefront of blockchain technology. An early adopter in the space, Greg helped build the first large cryptocurrency index, Crypto 100, and was involved in key initial research and development for NFTs during the early moments of the now red-hot industry. Greg’s journey into blockchain eventually led to his work with Polkadot, a disruptive alternative to Ethereum, where he filed the first Polkadot grant application (C++ API) in 2019. The success of Greg’s Polkadot grants evolved into an NFT pallet that later would evolve into Unique Network, a next-generation NFT chain on Kusama and Polkadot. Greg founded Unique Network alongside Alex Mitrovich, who helped grow Greg’s enthusiasm for the NFT space. A win at Hackusama, Kusama’s hackathon, helped fuel the creation of Unique Network on Polkadot and set the stage for the official launch of the Unique TestNet 1.0 with the design and release of Substrapunks, the first NFTs in the Polkadot ecosystem. Now in 2021, Greg is helping lead the latest iteration of Unique Network’s white label marketplace, which boasts a set of advanced features and tools to power the next generation of sustainable, interactive NFTs. Like everything Greg Zaisev has helped bring to life (and market) throughout his career, his work with Unique Network shares his excitement for technology that helps people do complex, disruptive things with ease and enthusiasm. https://twitter.com/gz_unique

Hallo, danke fürs Kommen. Thanks. Yes , even those back there working on their computers.

Yes. Yes. Thanks. Excuse me. I'm sorry.

Ich wollte euch nicht unterbrechen. Just keep doing what you're doing . Yes.

Sure, yes, it's an abuse of technology, but if the costs allow it, why not, right? Dafür ist Technologie doch da. What if I told you that I have a really cool database that contains, um, a few records? And each of you has one or perhaps several data records, and only you can change data records, and only you can change what happens to those data records, right? So, or maybe you can delete them, but nobody else can.

And then I say that the database is distributed, which means that, um, multiple people around the world have copies of it and make sure that all copies are identical. So the database is globally consistent, right? Isn't that cool? It feels like I've just reinvented something, doesn't it? Blockchain.

Okay, let 's get straight to the point. Customizable NFTs. So today I will be talking about NFTs , specifically adaptable NFTs. I will explain what it is, what customization options are available what customization options are available , how to create customizable NFTs in a very simple way, and I will show some application examples. Okay show some application examples.

Okay , how did it all begin? It started just a few years ago. It began with very simple, plain pictures. That's obviously not much fun. Yes, once you've figured out the rarity , it becomes pure trade.

Nothing more. There's nothing particularly exciting about them. Yes, they 're cool. Da, da widerspreche ich nicht. These are truly great pictures and very, very interesting projects, but they don't change over time.

So, what, what, what else can we do? Is there more? Okay, let's look at what options we have for customization . Do you remember that guy? In case you haven't seen it, it 's a really cool song, PPAP.

You should listen to this after this presentation . Well, whenever today. That's really cool. But what he's really about is combining things. So if you have two ordinary things, you can combine them and create something extraordinary, something unusual, simply by combining them.

And that is precisely what bundling is. This is the first use case. You can take one NFT , take another NFT, and put one inside the other. Or perhaps not even NFTs; you can put fungible tokens or stablecoins into an NFT and create something new . You could even take a worthless NFT and put $20 into it, then it must be worth at least $20, right?

Cool. You can fractionalize NFTs. You can take NFTs and make them fungible .

And finally, you can change or update some properties of an NFT. They do n't have to be static. That's the beauty of it. And you can bring it to life. You can make it changeable.

Let's do something fun. I will show you the demo. Let me switch gears for a moment. Okay, there it is. So here is our wallet, the Unique Network Wallet.

And this is one of the collections we created just for fun . So I'll try, oops. Oh no.

I'm offline now. Let me see if I can get it back online quickly . But anyway, I'll show you the video instead. So what is basically going to happen here? I'm going to take the bird off that guy take the bird off that guy .

Since this is a nested NFT, I can remove the nesting. Nesting means that one NFT owns another, because one NFT is like another wallet. We can remove this bird from the NFT. And look what we have here! We have one guy who's a bird and one guy who's not .

And now I'm doing the reverse process. I'll put it back in . And we're getting the guy with the beard again. Perhaps you have already seen this video. There you have it.

Can you see it? The rendering engine therefore knows that we have a nested NFT. She knows how to display it. Let me find my presentation. OK.

NFTs can be made fungible by simply splitting them into many parts . This is not just any picture. Actually, this is a Crypto Punk that we bought a few months ago , and we are splitting it into 100,000 pieces and giving them away for free to anyone who wants one. We had a registration campaign, which has already ended. Wir hatten fast 60.

000 angemeldete Personen für ein Multi-Ressourcen-NFT. An NFT cannot necessarily be viewed solely as an image . As I said, it doesn't have to be just a simple picture. It can be a range of resources, such as a post on social media. It's a video, then a preview image, and then some text.

All three are properties of the same thing. So this thing could be an NFT. You need to display the preview image while opening the video on a larger screen.

You click on it; This might be the right time to play it. So there are different resources for different contexts. And finally, dynamic NFTs. We created this NFT as an example. You can see I've zoomed in on the date; It looks different on a different date .

You see, there is a flower that opens and closes depending on the weather at its location. This is Tokyo at night and this is Beijing in daylight, so it has opened up. This NFT was live for a while . It has therefore changed its properties and adapted the way it is rendered over time. And it's still the same NFT, still the same ID.

If you own it, you own it, and it will change for you. Okay, so what are some use cases? I mean, it might look cool, but it's not really practical, is it? Let's consider: What practical solutions can we come up with ? Well, of course, gaming, my favorite topic.

That's why I put it first I put it first . It's not necessarily the most frequently used one so far, but it's my favorite. Uh, of course you can use NFTs in gaming. It improves the ownership experience, but it can be even more than that . It can be more than that.

You can use a game and create a gaming NFT as a multi-resource . For example, here's a simple example right here. The wallets simply allow you to play, but the code for this game will be encoded in the NFT. It will not be located on any server or any hardware device.

It will be located within the NFT. Is n't that cool? For ticketing. I have seen several projects that use NFTs for government documents and fan engagement. I'm going to talk about that a little more now.

But what happens now?

We have music streaming. We no longer have a physical device that contains them. There is nothing to sign. But NFTs can change that. You can even turn music streaming into a completely different experience.

If you are in a fan zone, you can show the singer the QR code and he can sign it with his private key. And your NFT then shows that you own an NFT that was signed by, I do n't know, Taylor Swift . Isn't that cool?

Because the way it's done now, the way it's done without NFTTS done now, the way it's done without NFTTS , you might pay in advance or reserve a bar, you pay the owners in advance and say: "Okay, I want certain people to come here after my event, show you blue tickets and I want to exchange beer for these blue tickets, and then I'll pay you afterwards." That's a lot of work. That's interesting.

What 's the problem with gift cards? This card is no longer available.

This is a perfect use case. This will be a really stable business.

It might not necessarily be more complex.

It's simply the path from Web2 to Web3 It's simply the path from Web2 to Web3 . OK.

Als Bonus: Kommen Sie morgen an unseren Stand im Sport Castle morgen an unseren Stand im Sport Castle . We will be giving away a Cello Brick NFT . He is in our network.

Not like today. I had lost my network connection had lost my network connection .

Excuse me. It's Friday at 4:15 PM. Here is the address.

I'll leave it online for a while . OK. Vielleicht möchte jemand . OK.

No questions. How many of you here are developers? Software developer. Oh, quite a lot.

Wow. Wow. Great.

It's almost, almost finished. Normalerweise geht es schneller, aber heute nicht. Okay, there we have it. And I will show you.

Absolutely not . Am I...am I online? Let's ping Google. Uh oh.

Network not connected. OK. OK. I think not connected. OK.

OK. I think I'm just unlucky. Oh, okay. Ah, there it is.

Here we are getrennt. Ah, there it is. Here we are . Okay, that's the solution I was talking about.

Um, maybe not today. I'm sorry . Yes, it doesn't recognize it . Is there a cable? Oh thank you.

Oh . Is there a cable? Oh thank you. Oh , USB3. Perfect.

Not reachable. Nein , USB3. Perfect. Not reachable. Nein , nein, es ist...

ich weiß, dass es reagiert. It is...I see the light is flashing. It is making progress. H Oh.

Oh flashing. It is making progress. H Oh. Oh , yes. Yes.

Yes. We connect. Yes, perhaps. Okay, that's okay. That's fine.

Yes, that's all fine . Yes. Thanks.
