okay next up we have another talk um on social common capital and this talk will be led by Mary usawa rabbe of Ozawa kokai Gan hi everyone thank you very much for joining us today um before starting dive into the topics want to I want to ask a quick question how am how many of you know heard of the term social common Capital before oh thank you um I'm glad to see that few of you are already knew about that not many people are familiar with it but I firmly believe that its recognition will be increased in the near future i' like to share very my private personal experience this is my late father who passed away 10 years ago developed this concept of social common capital and it has been a significant part of my life and career social common capital is a means of overcome the down backs of capitalism such as increasing in equality the definition of social common capital is as follows provides members of the society with those services and institutional Arrangement that are crucial in maintaining human and cultural life it encompasses the shared resources and institutions that are essential for affluent society supporting overall wellbeing I am a physician and Health Care is one of the essential pillar of social common Capital covid-19 made many people realize that Health Care cannot cannot be con consider solely economic rationality or productivity and afferent Society requires many essential elements like air W food that Supply from nature electricity roads water supply it comes from uh stating as a social infrastructure medicine education as a an in institutional capital and also internet is a pretty important social infrastructure right now reflecting on the current Rise Of Da I often wonder what my father would think of this movement when he was alive the were not common but he would see their potential to enhance and align with the possibility and principle of social commun Capital fundamental idea is instead of leaving these important thing to the market they should be protected by um protected and the managed by the government or local communities left sry to market price will rise so and the social is as all you notice that not going very well utilizer capitalism align with human characteristics is pretty important as many of you notice that the benefits of capitalism it good way to facilitate the Innovations many of you remember how quickly uh covid-19 vaccination is launched in the market and also capitalism is exploitation of Labor is better than socialism that is my my father's word thinking about child labor caka if Market said no to the child labor caka nobody can sell the cako a producer must change the way to produce it so sometimes the um Market limitation limitation by market stronger than the lws a um the soci um social common capital is trying to create a society leverages individual characteristics for example for example characteristic of Corporations is a make a profit of course but leading to an afferent society and we have to think about the impact of society economy only starts to move when human how mind is activated that was was um um said by the emperor sha when um my father talk about the social and common Capital Emperor said that you keep talking about economy but you are saying that the human heart is important isn't it so my father is trying trying to create economics for wellbeing unfortunately not being priced are difficult to handle in economics like children and nature that kind of things are neglected in economics but the value cannot be mon monetized is pretty important if and also the there is some feature of social common Capital so everyone needs it demand is uninterrupted interrupted so if we left solely to market price will go higher and higher and also it's come it's pretty important thing but how to generate a profit the first feature is pretty important the social Comm capital is pretty important but sometimes private ownerships are permitted for example in Japan the hospitals are 70% are organized of private company but of course you know that the government is supporting um sustainably so that we can do the um Health Care stuff so meanings of protecting the social common capital is not turn anything precious into money or protecting Beyond wi's imagination so human imagination is so big but there is someone who is living outside of our imag always living outside our imaginations so that means the social command capital is trying to make a no one left behind that reminds you that sdgs when adopting this sdgs posture there were concerns that the design made of the 70 goals appeared disconnected I believe that social common Capital can cohesively link these goals together this was 1981 when my father talked to the Pope John Paul second um about the the society is a swinging back and forth between capitalism and the socialism but we cannot make the afrian society so did um he talk about the social common Capital to spread the afan Society at that conference room there was the Jeffrey Sak who is the advisor to the UN and of course everybody knows that he developed the concept of fdgs so I I think that there are many influences from um SCC to the sdgs and uh I cannot deep into the this um conversation with the pop but somebody interested in please contact me and I I can explain it then let's refr about the history of Economics everybody knows that Adam Smith is a father of economics he wrote a Wealth of Nations but before that he wrote a theory of moral sentiments in that book he was saying that Society is built on empathy and also he emphasized the nation people and culture is important than State thereafter him follow him there is a John Stuart Mill who said that on static State a static state is an afferent society that can exist without continuous economic growth through Prosperity is not inherited tied to economics indicis and the theory of social common Capital supports this steady state after following that s ban made a theory of institutionalism he is trying to create Pro protect the freedom and the Dignity of the human spirit that leads the society um the independence of the soul and that leads to a society of well-being I believe and he is pretty said that it's in um pretty important that instinct Idol curiosity and work workmanship is pretty important for static State my father was um professor at un Chicago University mid 60s and there is a two famous PhD student was there Joseph EIT and George aerov he was uh both of them received the Nobel Prize in the 2000 2001 and he um there were very close relationship between my um my father and uh Joseph Stig and is a close friend of um Jeffrey sax so has he also had a many influence from my father and also there is the famous Professor named Milton Freedman uswa had a close relationship with mil Freedman too where they engaged in many discussions always respecting each other as schors but they were kind of opposite all the time later on freedoman followed Us's work for many years by asking his acquaintances at the Tokyo University to translate uwa's Japanese writing into English and send them to him when they met uzawa was surprised to find that freedoman was well acquainted with his research so he freedom is famous for neoliberalism and the book called free to choose but um uh yes um he's stating the economic liberalism and the benefit of minimal government intervention in the economy but in his book uh the only freedom is to buy or not to buy um speaking about education a famous story about the freedom freedoman had a lecture at the University and saying that the um there is a reasonable that the black students is less than Caucasian in at the University because at that time uh when he or she was high school student they choose not to study to go go to uh University but played so that's the um indiv individual responsibility that he said but black student lays his hand and the say said Freedman I understand what you said but I I had no choice to um choose the parents so um the freedoman is very fascina with Theory um distributor but the at the beginning he has a very uh big made a big mistake he returned um returned to Japan 1968 in the Japan was stating that the high economic economic growth remarkable growth in terms of numbers but in front of him Japan lost their prosperity and the bubles are sacrific for the growth like a minamata disease so he noticed the limitation of mathematical economics if we say everyone usually the bubles are sacrificed so he noticed that limit of imagination and cognitive dissonance I skip it but R festinger was next door at the when we lived in the Chicago they had a close relationship and the social common Capital has a uh Behavior economics Theory uh inclusively he wrote um the social cost of automobile 19474 econom that's showing that economics does not convert in important things into money like lost lives the this book was transl translated to Korea six years ago and the social common Capital translated in Chinese um five years ago and also in 2006 he wrote The Economic analysis of social common capital and they it was fruit of mathematic forms he said that it's easy mathematics but I cannot understand any of it so I'm looking the researcher who can understand this math and Economist voice please contact me if you so and but I understand the advantage of mathematics if I say mountain in my heart the rocky mountain or Al M then we I will imagine but when I get turned into the the Japanese kanji it's a pictogram that reminds me the Mount Fuji or D so it um everybody has a own history and the imagination would be changed but if you see the this Mass form everybody for pref for it the number two so the mathematics a communication tool unaffected by language culture Vision or time so uh let's skip it I have only two minutes left so the MTH has a greater Affinity to physics but uh it's pretty hard to um handle um I'm sorry the mind or heart is too complicate complex to handle but now the math is changing so we are thinking another way and finally I would like talk about the social common capital and the future research division at Kyoto University there are many researchers in had joined the hum Kasam who spoke yesterday is also joined as our research Division and one of the researcher masi hunashi focused on the cico culture augmented ecosystem he translated Brina sub Sahara to the agricultural land within year uh this is a f where they are doing at the rongi hills and according his calculation if um produces a four 4.3% of uh GDP from the organ Meed ecosystem the sustainable uh ecological footprint will uh reduce to one Earth that means uh within the 10 years we try hard uh we can um regenerate with the US so we are trying to go beyond the capitalism with social common capitals the peace is the most important social common capital and the um yes if we um compete about the quantity competition or war will arise but we focus on the quality happiness or peace will arise quality is and U about equal to the beauty so I believe in the power art so sharing of nonb information have ever heard about Nima Benet outside noima before there the island is very famous for yellow pumpkins but the founder or founder of this island social uh is fighting against the um the side effect of capitalism with modern art so I think the there is there is infinity gate at Nima Island it's it's just a frame but he emphasize the nature so I believe that Socia Kon capital is s like the infinity gate that gave us the frame to notice the importance of the social common capital I yeah once again thank you very much for the this time my father was had a war economist who had a warm heart and a cool head with Spirits so anyone who can join the our research division please contact me thank you very much for your time
