The top 3 winning games shared $17,500 in cash prizes sponsored by the Colorado Lottery + $8,500 in LINK Web3 Bonus Prizes, sponsored by Chainlink. Web3 is an evolution to the underlying infrastructure of the Internet where applications run on decentralized networks. It allows peer-to-peer services, data ownership by users, and minimized trust. With respect to games, blockchain technology can be beneficial for: identity, authentication, provable fairness, provable randomness, digital assets, etc. Submissions could include any aspect of web3 technology in their game submission, however, but did not have to demonstrate a “fully decentralized” game. welcome everybody to the closing ceremonies of the first colorado lottery game jam in partnership with the denver and chain link we have an unbelievable set of results to announce so first off i just wanted to mention to everybody a couple of things y'all should have received for those of the provided an address you should have received or should be receiving your swag bag so that was sent there's like a padded envelope that was sent out and it had one of these cool t-shirts in it that i'm wearing right here so there's a buffa corn with his you know lottery uh monitor game holding his beverage of choice and uh let your imagination be what it will on what exactly that happens to be um that's coming so look in the mail if you haven't i know i go like a week at a time nowadays with the kovitz stuff going on where i don't even check my mail so do that because you've probably got some goodies in there um second thing i just wanted to report really quickly on attendance so we had 208 participants the 208 participants 30 projects the participation was a global success so the point being is colorado is making lots of waves when it comes to getting you know recognition for being the uh a center of innovation and technology and all sorts of really cool stuff so we're stoked to see that everybody agrees with us and that decided to participate so for for an event this specialized we're really really excited now not just the 208 participants in the 30 projects i'll personally say and you'll hear this echoed from those coming behind me speaking that the projects the creativity the just you know the unexpectedness of what we saw and what we got was incredible so thank you from my end to everybody for your participation and support we hope you enjoy the swag and with that i'm going to go ahead and reintroduce my friend tom seaver from the colorado lottery and we're going to get into the meat and potatoes of the program for this evening and i'll be back here announcing the winners here shortly but tom do you want to go ahead and give your remarks please uh i want to add my thanks i i just really appreciate the work that everybody put in it's clear that the effort was there and the commitment was there and we really really really appreciate that i think three things really struck me during this last week one was how quickly the teams grasped the assignment right so one of the things you're really hoping for when you're the person who's kind of trying to explain your industry in like five minutes is that people will understand what you're talking about and that they will you know digest it and process it and be able to turn it into the kind of ideas that we can actually use and it was very clear from the beginning that the teams did that so i want to thank you for that i also want to thank you for the quality of questions and discussions that we had during the office hours i think patrick and justin and tyson and i that you know spent a lot of time talking to the jammers from all over the place and i was really thrilled that they had such good questions and that they had such good discussion points to bring to us i was a little bit worried it was going to be kind of a cricket festival you know sitting there for an hour every night hoping people come up with good questions but they really did and you really did i i really appreciate that and of course lastly it wouldn't be appropriate to have this kind of conversation without mentioning the creativity i think you know you you expect creativity that was the part of it that i really expected to see and so my standards and the bar was set pretty high for what i expected to see on the creativity side not just the artwork but the ability to understand what kind of a game people might like to play so just a fantastic job on that i really appreciate everybody's hard work and it made it hard for us as judges to come down on a top three today so that's a testimony to how well you got it to how well you followed through on it and to how well you articulated it through the creative process so you know from the lottery's perspective i couldn't be happier and uh i think my job now is to toss it back to lou uh cordova my ex-boss um yo i still gonna treat you like my boss even though you're not my boss anymore so just well in my new role tomorrow so when i when i first met everyone here i was head of the department of revenue but i am now stepping away from that friday was my last day to work with the governor directly to reimagine all of state government using technology to see what we can do so i am now his advisor on efficiencies and digital transformation for the state of colorado so what you're seeing here with the lottery hackathon is only the tip of the fortiner and there is so much more that we are going to do in terms of bringing this as john says the crowd source creativity to look at you're not just having fun but solving problems you know there are so many efficiencies that we could gain from the state but frankly we're not creative enough in our little cubicles or in our little offices at home and so we really need the help of everyone like you did here coming out to look at all these new games it was really hard there were so many that were fun to look at and i just want to thank everyone uh for for doing this for colorado for our schools for our outdoors um i i'm just so thrilled with the results and so pleased that you were able to really come in strong so it was fun thanks everyone so um would you like to introduce our friend betsy sure um betsy is in charge of the office of economic development and international trade she has the most fun job in the state like easily hands down because she goes out around the world and convinces companies and people to come to colorado which i'm sorry bessie that's just like that is a piece of cake that is just an easy job you have it great and and also just really promoting colorado companies nurturing small companies betsy and i do a lot together because she is super creative in everything that she does and so we invited betsy here to tell you a little bit about what she does around the state to really do that to nurture companies and put colorado at the forefront of what's going on here in technology and blockchain and all kinds of stuff so betsy take it away great yeah well thank you lou and you're right i mean uh colorado's a really easy sell um i mean it's what a what a great place to to live and and work and and john i do have some swag that you gave me at black chain day at the capitol last year i think the governor has some and and i do as well i should have my t-shirt on but it's wonderful to see you all again congratulations to what i know is a really successful uh more importantly fun um hackathon and uh you know i was looking at the some of the charts that you had sent me about the participants you know so many from colorado but really from all over the world um which is which is great to see and there are actually a lot of the companies where you have participants are ones that actually we are targeting uh for increased investment in the us and and jobs as well but uh you know i'm wondering how many people are are actually from colorado um that are participating today how many game jammers because we actually have a huge in migration of talent that comes to colorado um three biggest places we get a lot of uh graduates from texas california new york and chicago um because i mean if you've spent winters in chicago or in new york where would you rather be so we actually have in colorado we've got the second most educated workforce in the country um after massachusetts um and more importantly we have more uh graduates with stem cell degrees um than any of for a state our size any other state in the country so a really great innovative place to to start to grow your business uh you know to be a developer um and you know we also are able to you know one of the things that we really tell too are some of these emerging industries like blockchain like tech uh like the biosciences too um and have uh you know have grants available for companies uh who really need that early stage capital um or need some proof of concept money so if any of you are in that situation where you're really looking to expand your business or start a new business you know make sure you check out uh choosecolorado.com that's our website and uh find out about our advanced industry program because we're really focused on those high-tech jobs jobs of the future and making sure we're we're uh not only attracting that talent but but growing those jobs in those companies uh here in colorado we just finished participating in the west slope pitch week and that was a collaboration with the greater colorado venture fund startup colorado in our office a couple of other community foundations i was all entrepreneurs on the west slope of colorado the winner i think received 250 000 um so that was a first of its event kind we're hoping to do that to do that every year as well but as lou mentioned i do get to travel i haven't in a while with kovid but one of my first my first trip was to south korea um really interesting we met with the governors of one of the provinces that really is the center of the gaming industry and talked about some collaborative projects on you know getting companies um and some of their employees to start businesses here we have four or five south korean companies that are right now actively um looking at colorado and it's so important for those to nurture those relationships um you know one country as a matter of fact because we had been working with them and they're still looking at coming to colorado once things settled down but they were able to get us a hundred thousand and ninety-five masks uh just because we had that relationship with them and they said we you know we can sell them to some other place we can give them to new york or california but we know you guys in colorado so you know those uh relationships um are really important not just for job growth but for really everything we we do in colorado um the governor went on his first trade mission uh last year to india and nepal a lot of interest in companies i'm from india uh settling um in colorado um the lieutenant governor went to australia and new zealand is a huge ecosystem of australian companies particularly in the in the denver area um and then of course canada um is an important location for us participated in uh their tech collision event last year um and then of course uk netherlands other european countries particularly for their strengths in in fintech so a lot going on internationally we welcome those uh developers uh programmers entrepreneurs not only from around the country but from around the world to come and make colorado their home because we know it's a great place place to live so uh thank you so much for having me um i know you are are moving on with the winners so uh i wish everyone the best of luck and really thanks again for allowing me to to listen in and take part in the sarah closing ceremony well thank you betsy thank you for being here and and i'm just going to echo a couple of things here first off on the advanced industries i don't know that a lot of people know this but a blockchain company actually was awarded an advanced industry grant radar uh technology so formerly radar relay um and so they're based here in colorado of course and it's a really good testament in in my experience to see a state who's actually serious about investing in emerging technologies in in a pretty serious way and not just talking about innovation but really helping support it and the things that happen around the startup community here i think are are getting much better than they used to be i mean i've been in the startup world in denver for a very long time and it's been um quite remarkable to see the transformation over the past several years to see where we are now so thank you for all the hard work that you guys put in and oh edit and we'll look forward to supporting more now on the run i found the shark can i share the chart for just a second so people can see all the countries sure and it's 19 countries to be precise here we go i'm going to share it for just a minute so you can see we've got everything from australia and bangladesh to kenya and singapore and all the way down so it's been really fun so yeah it has been a lot of fun and it's been really interesting to see you know just where we've kind of sparked interest and where we've got friends around the globe and and you know this is one of the beautiful things about um the virtualness of sort of today's current epoch of things is it it sort of drives an opportunity to really connect with people on on a different basis than just proximity right it's it's really about sharing ideas and nurturing creativity which has been a great testament to to this particular event now on the front of getting people to colorado okay we talked about that and i did float this in the in the opening ceremony so our friends at frontier airlines also want to support coming to colorado so we did really lobby hard for just one way tickets but what we've got is we've got vouchers that basically are going to be good for whatever kind of credits you want but with frontier these essentially are going to be round trip tickets and just to give you some context here of how this is going to work so we have for the game jam overall winners first second and third place teams we're gonna give two 250 vouchers for travel that's 500 and for the game jam runners up they will also get two per team that's fourth fifth and sixth place winners for the web three winners that's um all first second and third there will also be two um 250 vouchers per team and for the online contest which um will be randomly distributed if you did the the hashtagging and the social media engagement um two of those will be randomly distributed so thank you to our friends at frontier airlines that's 20 250 vouchers that's five thousand dollars in travel to denver now you can always give away the other half if you decide not to leave right so there's a lot of people that actually have done that i know quite a few people who have come on visits and and sort of like sent a car home or a truck and they went and got stuff and then came back and they just never left so in any case tongue-in-cheek a little bit but of course sort of funny like joking not joking so anyway whatever you want to make of that all right uh let's see here making sure i don't miss anything in my notes so with that i am going to go ahead and announce the runners-up um for the open com the main competition and before i do i just want to like say a couple quick things we had a call this afternoon with all the judging crews and with the organizational staff and it was a hoot going through all of this and just you know just i mean the creativity that's been mentioned was just like astounding so the fact that we didn't have more prize money and more we're just gonna you know we're already thinking down to the next iteration and we just want to thank all of these teams here for such incredible um creativity and contribution to the event so in no particular order uh the runners-up for the main competition for the 2020 colorado lottery game jam are star royal rocky trekkers and random roll racers now in interest of time we don't have the time to demo and kind of like go through all of this but i encourage everybody to go to the game jolt pages for each of these i'm going to read them off again that's star royal rocky trekkers and random roll racers these are phenomenal games that we just we we thought were a lot of fun and really stood out in a lot of their components now there's a possibility that y'all might be getting a reach out or two based on some interest that you know outside of the game jam um but you know just know that you know we really do appreciate your contribution and you will be receiving each two 250 frontier airlines vouchers for travel um to denver so we look forward to seeing you and come by and say hi anytime so without further ado i'm going to announce the first second and third place winners now in particular order we're going to start with third place so with third place we have you guys ready so um here's what's gonna happen so for the ones that i'm gonna announce now i'm not meaning to be suspenseful so with first first second and third the winners are actually here with us and they're going to they don't know who's won yet by the way so we're holding everybody in suspense we're holding you hostage so i'm going to just talk for another minute just to drag it out and just make you miserable but what's going to happen is they're going to how we're going to get them the microphone for five minutes and they're going to demo or talk about their game or whatever they want to do you should also check out their page regardless of what goes on so gamejolt page remember the hashtags and also just remember you can find them through searching for the name so here we go in no particular in particular order third place and we'll go ahead and give the microphone off to let me just make sure i've got i want to make sure i get the name correct okay all right third place winner of twenty five hundred dollars is rollio kyle signs so kyle if you wanna turn on your video congratulations my friend awesome thank you guys so much this is incredible oh my god i uh i would never expected to get this far to tell you the truth so real quick i'm going to say a couple quick things about your game just from the judging staff and from myself so in this game uh a game piece moves across the board based on the number of the door a random number that a die is rolled rolling one of the time the gates produce moves to different numbers spot it can only move diagonally and horizontally and can get stuck okay so there's this whole kind of choreography that goes on one thing that we wanted to say is this particular game stood out from a game like a game design and from just a sophistication probably almost beyond all of the other games so we wanted to comment we wanted to commend you for that and just the intricacy by which you thought through everything and with that i'm going to give you the microphone and the shareability to go ahead and present you've got five minutes to go ahead and tell us about your game yeah so uh rollio is kind of a combo of you know keno and craps craps being my favorite game in the casino typically you know you got a lot of different moving parts going on different bets to go on so it definitely keeps your attention even while you're kind of just watching other people roll the dice and stuff like that so i was thinking uh it'd be pretty awesome to take that into a more full screen view and also kind of simplify it a little bit for people that are just kind of hanging out uh doesn't have to make it so serious um as you can see you know you've got a piece moving across the board uh it's never really going to be able to hit on its same square again it's really just trying to find the next spot uh that uh is uh available um but yeah all sorts of different bets going on uh you know your sum bet if you want to bet on the total amount the number of moves that it makes um and then you know your three piece four piece that's for if it the same number gets repeated three or four times um that'll give you a little bonus to you both your moves repeats and bets and then you've got a top and bottom just like kind of tracking how it's going along the top and the bottom as well as you know your come out roll which also follows a lot like craps every time that first roll is hit it's going to give you a little extra money although i just noticed a glitch there and then you've also got your buy numbers which are going to be you know buying a number and every time it comes out you get a little extra bonuses because most of these numbers are going to hit a little lower uh bonuses kind of come in when that number gets high more and more times to kind of give people a incentive to bet on higher numbers and stuff like that but uh yeah it's made in construct 2 which is kind of cool to get a project done with that finally i've used it a lot for prototyping board games i'm working on a couple of different things the card game right now coming to kickstarter soon combustible penguins so uh it's nice to actually use it as a full game development as opposed to just like a prototyping tool it's been was really awesome that way this game is taking quite some time usually doesn't take but you can see there he's failed he rolled the two and there's no two in any diagonal or horizontal way for him to go on to uh but yeah that's kind of the general idea there uh it goes through you know all your different bets you can kind of make a few different bets choose a couple of numbers for your sum bets and stuff like that but uh yeah that's the gist of the game um it's really awesome to work on it and uh i'm super excited to get a prize for it that's amazing first time uh awesome awesome awesome so there's a there's a first time for everything so great great very excited so um congratulations kyle um what will happen from here just for everybody and all the winners is there will be some follow-up conversations with you about sort of what's next and kind of um you know what to expect from there so again thank you for your contribution to creativity thank you for your i mean the sophistication that was put in um i think you know for more uh like sophisticated sort of mature bet like players i think this could be a really interesting thing to build on to and i think you know the entire judging crew uh felt the same way so uh any final thoughts that you want to give us uh no just thank you guys for doing this game jam uh competition is super awesome uh and uh super cool to learn from everybody and kind of learn so much about you know blockchain and stuff that i had no idea about beforehand so and where are you kyle you're wearing a broncos oh i'm in denver i'm a born and raised in denver so uh there you go local guy uh i'm a 111 years younger than colorado to the day so colorado boys great well thank you kyle we appreciate it no worries have a great day all right thanks all right everyone i'm going to take the microphone back and we're going to move into second place so second place blackbeard's booty so congratulations wow thank you so much i'm genuinely surprised that we made it this far so joseph uh we've got joseph uh how do you say your last name bertolini yes you actually got it right the first time thank you you got it man i i i do i do try so um in in joseph's game blackbeard booty we've got the ability to make a bet by selecting how many slots you want and then filling each slot with a gem of your choice and then if the player wins if you're able to match the bets based on the random generation of the gems that come out of a chest so um joseph i'm going to give you the microphone for five minutes and you're willing to share if you're you're welcome to share your screen do a demo whatever you'd like and uh just that why don't we do it it's all yours man all right you're gonna get the infinite zoom for a second probably all right so i'm uh launch our game so our game is um we took a lot of inspiration from kino and how we were thinking on doing it um the implement implementation here isn't exactly what we were going to do because we wanted to have like paper slips that you would bet on and you would fill in your gems and then like people in a restaurant or bar would then give their paper slip to staff and then staff would use the screen you're seeing right now to enter into our system and then the system actually calculates like payouts and if you actually won or not so to interact with this thing you'll just put in your name and then you pick your gems from three to five by just clicking these buttons so i can do i like red green and blue but i'll do red red and a couple greens and then five is obviously a lot harder to match than three so we have a risk level of dangerous just to communicate to our players just so that way they know what they're getting into so and then here this is where the actual like gem selection is and um the chest opens displays the gems and then right now no one won so then it's going to move this gem combination over to the right side of the screen and we have this on the right side of the screen because uh like a lot of times people will psychologically think that they can guess what's going to come next in a random sequence if they can see what came before but that actually has no like mathematical significance because all of our roles are completely independent of each other so this kind of just runs infinitely and the way it's designed is that people would come into a bar or restaurant they would fill out that paper slip and then they can just drop in drop out play games while they're waiting for their food while they're waiting for their drinks while they're just hanging out you can see i actually won right there and i won 50 bucks for guessing five gems also in a row so that was kind of our thing and uh buying in uh bets it's supposed to be low um buy-in but you get a pretty decent payout and uh rounds are really quick so that way you don't play one round wait like 30 minutes and you only see one game you'll get like a round every like three to five minutes we have it at just 10 seconds here for the purpose of the demo but yeah this is pretty much our game and it was really fun to make and uh we wanted to just make something that was simple but kind of deceptively simple so that way it entices players to just keep playing but also still can generate a good amount of revenue for whoever is hosting this game so yeah well thank you joseph now where are you located so me and my friends that we made this game with we are all uci students so we're over in california in irvine got it cool very cool well thank you for your contribution to colorado it's a great place to live after you graduate awesome thank you so much shameless plugs all over the place so joseph again thank you for your um for everything and you are the winner of five thousand dollars and i'm still like kind of shocked from it well pinch yourself because it's real and you've got two round trip or two 250 vouchers from frontier airlines coming your way as well awesome thank you so much yep so congratulations my man and um i thank your team as well do you want to give any shout outs to the other guys definitely i'm gonna shout out um ryan green he's one of the other programmers and then uh we have nicole wong she's another programmer and also drew all of the gems and did our ui design and then um kareem he's the guy that did the 3d modeling and the animation and um we have our other friend lyndon and uh he did some of the ui some of the program he also programmed an entire audio system but we didn't implement it because it was kind of just like ah there's no audio on the faq but he did that as well awesome well thank you again and thanks to the team i mean it sounds like you had quite the the the composition of of intelligence there to make this happen so well done very good thank you so much yeah you got it all right with that i'm gonna grab the mic back um and we're gonna move on to first place everybody ready so this reminds me of a time i'm just kidding i'm not going to do that all right here we go first place at the 2020 colorado lottery game jam is peaks and rivers congratulations peaks and rivers so peter are you here yes i am hi hey peter uh thank you very much this is uh great uh i really uh enjoyed this challenge uh i never heard mod of monitor games before i came to this so this is a really a great uh honor i'm really a humbled uh for this this is great well i'm going to give you a quick commentary on the judging panel and what we kind of thought about this one of the unique things about peter's game is that you can actually kind of go backwards so there's this sort of almost anxiety or sort of anticipation that kind of comes along with this game although entirely random it does give you the feeling as lou cordova put it that you've actually got more input and more control over it than you really do it was one of those it's it's an experiential thing it's not a real thing it's just one of those things that felt that way so the hiker is going up the trail and depending on the random dice roll they land on a space and the space will either advance them or even possibly send them down um so the goal is to kind of predict the amount of roles that you're going to take to get to the top and it's a really interesting sort of adaptation of sort of some old board game theory as well as like some new some you know sort of interactive things so peter if you want to go ahead and take the microphone and uh feel free to share your screen and give us a demo or whatever you feel like doing hey everyone so this is um unity i did this in so um when i came to the challenge i i knew i wanted to do something with the landscape of colorado so the colorado mountains and the colorado rivers uh was prom in my mind and that sort of led me to this idea of using the game snakes and ladders or as we call shoots and ladders uh that everyone who's grown up has at least played a few times i think and it's totally a random game where you roll the dice and you try to uh get to the top to the end um and then you encounter other ladders or shoots and uh in in this case it's ladders and waters or rivers so this is how it looks uh in uh the grid looks in unity and i can sort of so it uh it's it's a i decided to put this into an isometric view so i'm going to put that in isometric view so from an angle you can actually see the whole board all the numbers and then you can actually see the ascent of the climber and i'm going to play it and see this works and i'm using asha's machine to to present so thank you asha so the idea is you start at the bottom and then you uh you roll the dice and as the dice rolls you move each dice move uh and then if you hit a spot with the uh with the water it'll bring you down and then just like shoot some ladders uh you you can luck will either shoot you up or bring you down and it's sort of how the game works in uh in shoots and ladders or snakes ladders where it's about virtue and vice where if you do a good deed you you advance higher and if you do you sin you you you go back in life so that's uh so there's still philosophical uh the components of the game also so he's almost there let's see can you make it yes and as you reach the top you you get your treasure [Music] and then you can reset and the music is done by my friend gina um and she provides a great loop music loop and the logo is provided for my friend julie chase she did that the last minute and she did a great job too so i'm gonna with that i'd like to thank everyone again for selecting this game it was uh it came together very very nicely and i'm really happy we came out and hopefully this becomes a real thing thank you and peter where are you from oh i'm from new jersey new jersey so we got the coasts and colorado represented by the way we did not take into consideration anybody's location or give any favoritism to colorado so this was completely merit-based based on the submissions so uh very good job so you'll be able to take care of your friends there with the ten thousand dollar first prize that you just won don't tell them i didn't tell them they were getting money well i just i just told them ten thousand dollars plus two 250 um frontier airlines vouchers so congratulations peter you did a great job um i think a lot of us really appreciated the effort that you put into it also to kind of make it colorado feeling um there was recently a um a treasure chest that was located in the mountains of colorado that had been hidden for a very very long time there was actually some national news stories on that so like this kind of reminded me of that a little bit and that's great and it really it really did have a little bit of even nostalgia to it as you mentioned i think a lot of us have played shoots and ladders and and it was kind of an interesting adaptation of that so thank you very much for the contribution thank you very much too and i'm going to stop sharing right now all right all right without further ado we're going to move into the second part of our um series here and we're going to talk about web3 contributions so with that i'm going to hand the microphone to our friend patrick uh but before i do i just wanted to make one sort of comment on this you know the um you know the partnership with chain link in this event was it was a really important one because you know chain link's a very long game organization chain link is thinking about you know the modernization of infrastructures and the internet and how we're all going to consume and relate to technology and games and lotteries and and public good infrastructures and their partnership really meant a lot and there's a lot of people from the space that contributed to their creativity to this and we've got three games that have been selected for the web 3 best in show and just a big thanks to chain link to sergey for his time to patrick and adeline for their time the entire chain link team has done just a great job in supporting with office hours and mentors and everything else and you know one of the questions that came up early on with this is you know well why why why would they want to be involved and we're trying to build a lottery game and and you know one of the things i love about chain link is they're just they're just contributing to the future of things they're just putting their creativity and really their money where their mouth is and supporting things that really align with some sort of futuristic goal in this long game so thanks again to the team and patrick it's all you man go ahead and take it away thank you so much sean and just to iterate that you know thank you to the denver team obviously as well for letting us attend you know i think this is has been a blast and i know a ton of the engineers have learned a lot i've learned a lot along the way and uh yeah i agree that you know this is kind of the future of things and and we're really looking forward to you know this kind of being like the beginning in colorado kind of being the beginning of this this new progressive innovation and and this whole just everything about this is is really exciting so um yeah we have three awesome projects that i'm i'm really excited to uh to show here today and these are kind of literally like some of the first like the baseline of just getting started with some of these decentralized unhackable uh immutable lottery games which to me is incredibly exciting um for the future of of lottery games and monitor games uh and and just kind of the combination of web three into this ecosystem so so i'm really excited to show these off and and say hey what a fantastic job these guys did a lot of them didn't even come from a blockchain background um some of them showed up and they were like hey like you know i've done some web dev i've done some engineering and this but i've never done anything with blockchain like how do i how do i start and i think that that curiosity is exactly what we need to be progressive and be innovative and i'm i'm really excited for for some of the projects here so um yeah so same thing we're gonna start it from third place and go to first place um something else that is fantastic about all these projects is they all used a chain link vrf to get provably random numbers which is also something that we pretty much haven't seen in any other product or anything like ever like this is like cutting bleeding edge stuff and i'm just i'm so excited that we got the products that we did um and so to start for third place we had mr grant stewart and his lotto buffalo project and so something i wanted to uh to touch on with this project too uh he actually pinged me um right before submission he was like hey like you know i'm not quite done with my code like i wasn't able to i wasn't able to you know do exactly what i wanted to do this is a hackathon right this is this is meant to be this iterative product uh process and i said hey it's okay just just submit what you have it's great and he submitted this project and i was like well this is this is this insane back in infrastructure for almost like literally any other project to come on and be able to build their own lottery game with this insane infrastructure so so he might say like oh like i didn't quite get the front end done but the idea was fantastic the the engineering was fantastic you know i i go through everyone's code i really do uh and i check to see what's going on in the back end and he did a fantastic job so with that i'll pass it off to him hey grant where are you from man i am from kansas city kansas city yeah i have a i have a lot of family who lives in colorado actually and in denver you can use one of those uh travel vouchers to come out yeah i would end up meeting my brother-in-law at the airport since he's a air traffic controller yeah okay so the game itself is just this this this website right and it doesn't look like much here uh the only thing as far as like interactive web 3 integration is the lottery size uh but to show like the level of integration that i went through i can go ahead and run some of the commands that i kind of ran through often and that is funding my chain link contract right i'm gonna laugh at this uh oh my god it ran out of gas um oh my god i'm just gonna do a rundown of everything though um so that way it doesn't take too much time but essentially with the project i ended up doing uh my own kind of take on the docker compose setup that chain link provides for other developers uh so that way i could get familiar with the entire chain link project uh seeing this is actually my very first solidity project in general and the way i set up this project is to have my whole truffle directory which is here in the ethereum i have this the ui build i have a api uh that is meant to be tied with the front end and the back end and add additional functionality but that's i didn't even have time to get to that because i ended up deploying my own chain link operator and so uh i love the password here that's where it's colorado if anyone's curious um and unfortunately uh and the way i have this entire project set up and if you ever go to the repo and want to start it up it will automatically initialize an operator with the exact job that you want and do everything that you want with verifiable random function functions and do it with a complete local setup and at some point in time i'll probably take this and extend it so it ends up going further and definitely sorry about the uh but it's not i'm not able to run the you know fund the contract and you know this lottery size ends up updating and at the end of it it was supposed to be an isometric buffalo runner where there's a bunch of buffalo uh you know that kind of take the lottery machine state to it where you you know you see like a nice animation and you enjoy the outcome um but with that i'll i'll definitely leave it off and more than what any developer is more than welcome to ask any questions as far as project structure and everything else that was involved into this i also didn't make my first chain link uh pr just to get the truffle box for chain link going yeah which was really impressive and then i went through your smart contract and something that's really important for these hackathons is making sure um you make a game that first and foremost you know is this is like a lottery game and i went through your lottery contract and i went through the functions and like uh all the logic for for running this lottery game uh were fantastic and way better than what i kind of initially imagined uh just wasn't able to quite hook up the front end but yeah the the fact that this this framework was uh so fantastic and literally anybody can kind of check it out build a lottery game on top of it uh you know i would love to see you well what you could accomplish with another week so uh so thank you very much for this grant and uh congratulations on your on your one thousand dollar prize for third place thank you all right so moving on to second place uh once again we had a we had a number of uh fantastic projects and second place is actually here as well if i hopefully i pronounce your name right it says santosh with his uh buffy's wheel of fortune uh hello everyone uh it's santosh i'm from india and uh let me introduce to you buffy's feel of fortune yeah just to talk about his project a little bit here so um so he also put in a chain-link vrf and and hopefully he kind of talks about that a little bit um to build this this wheel of fortune type game i i wanted to say i wanted to have a conversation with him and be like hey maybe maybe we changed the name because i'm sure there's like a like a little bit of a branding issue there but um probably but uh but since it's a hackathon and he's just starting out i think it's fine but um yeah he also uh put the pega buffer corn in there which i thought was a great little touch naturally naturally right if it's buffy's you got to put the pega buffer corn in there all right well he should be back any minute so patrick um in in kind of looking at some of these it seems like you know what i even just with grant's presentation just a minute ago it seems like like there's been some pretty big steps forward on the infrastructure side of things and then it seems like once you get the contracts and some of this sort of under the hood stuff done putting a front end on all sorts of games is going to be pretty easy yeah um like absolutely and i know most of the everybody i talked to they were brand new to blockchain never touched solidity so this was just this this completely new experience for them um but once they were kind of did the aha like oh like this is how it works um they were able to put the front ends on really quick like the front end part from what from my conversation seemed like the easier parts um but i know for myself for me the backing part is the easiest part because for me the front end doesn't make any sense the solidity i'm like yeah like that's easy i could rip that off in you know an hour or so but um but yeah it looks like it looks like santosh is back you got can you uh share your screen now like you can see yeah yep this is the wheel of fortune uh currently how the web three embedded into this the design factor is that are divided into three factor one is the view factor where people can view the wheel spinning is the control factor and the real factor the control is the one the sponsor who create the this event lottery event second is the retail who sells the ticket and third party stream yeah every time you buy a ticket it keeps adding on to the screen and here we can see the simulations what happens when people buy tickets get keep adding adding and when a sponsor like a uh magic board when after a certain period they can draw a ball similarly you can spin after a certain period of time then it trolls and random number picks up so let me go to the smart contract and how i use the chain link here so we we probably don't have time for you to go through the smart contract but if you want to just explain like hey it's getting a random number through the vrf i think that that's that's pretty much that's that should be good yeah so using the vr of smart contract 9 whenever i click a random number it generates a random number and uh based on number of tickets sold and uh taking a mode of who is the lucky we know uh you get a lucky we know that's about it uh oh i like it yeah awesome yeah thank you so much for this yeah again i i went through the code on the back end and i was i was really excited to see that yeah you were spinning the wheel and you got the random number from the chainlink vrf so it's a provably random game which is which is fantastic so thank you so much and congratulations on your 2500 prize there hey thank you congrats and so without further ado i know we're we're running short on time here uh the first place for the web 3 uh integration of the chain link lottery goes to our friend michael with the numbers game congratulations michael awesome thanks yeah i'm really excited to share it and i'm happy to be here patrick and john so yeah let's get started the michael where are you from i'm actually from jacksonville florida and i attended ethan for once and it was a great event i actually didn't participate in the hackathon that year so this is um my first proper denver experience awesome welcome all right so yeah that's the fully decentralized lottery that i built via chain link and the interesting thing about this project in contrast to the other two of three projects is actually um the randomness comes completely from the players so it's a voting game and you vote one number per round and anyone who chooses the number that got the least amount of votes wins the jackpot and the way i incorporated chain link is i used a newer feature and that was actually the alarm clock where you can trigger aspects of the game to run automatically so this game is fully decentralized and as long as it's funded it will run in perpetuity yeah so that was actually my favorite part of this project is that it requires no maintenance so you start it and as long as it's funded as long as the the contract is funded with with uh with a little bit it can go forever and and that's it so to me that was this insanely cool project the fact that you can literally hit go and and it goes uh so i thought that that was really cool uh so congratulations to michael on winning uh winning the web free part of the ride the uh the hackathon here and the five thousand dollar prize so congratulations all right thanks it was definitely awesome and it was also um my first time using chain links so i'm very pleased with the api and hope to push it further and learn what else we can do awesome thank you so much and with that that concludes the web3 part of the the hackathon here again you know i i think this is so cool the fact that you know colorado is basically going to be ground zero for these web three these blockchain lotteries and this is lit these are literally like cutting edge driving the innovation of of lotteries in general and just this entire space so i you know again kudos to colorado for allowing this integration to happen and i'm i'm really excited for uh for how this is going to push the industry in general and you know just just drive uh you know have more people be like well colorado's you know this ground zero for these lotteries and this innovation here so so thank you again to colorado thank you to eat denver and thank you to all the the projects and submissions here uh for for submitting these awesome projects you know thank you for being a part of it too it was wonderful having chain link and and having denver as part of it and um so i don't know tom i'm gonna call on you for a second here if i can because remember how in the very beginning we said we may choose to move forward and develop some games we were holding our cards close tom how many of the top three do you think we'll move forward on and start testing yeah i think all three of them will will start moving on and uh you know having igt be part of this has been really critical because there's been no gap between looking at these ideas and kind of trying to translate them into the lottery world um again i i'm just really really thrilled with the level of of creativity and the work that was put in and east denver was a great partner chain link was a great partner everybody did a really wonderful job and it made it really easy for us you know as especially for me as a real newcomer to the space to to be able to understand what was going on and to be able to participate and help out so thanks to all of you your great great partners and and i looking forward to round two well so are we tom and and we really appreciate the all of the support and openness and willingness to kind of take a step out from the lottery team your team was fabulous to work with i'm going to give a special shout out to gloria again because she doesn't get enough credit in the background and she's just a she's just an absolute star when it comes to keeping things together so thank you gloria for your tireless work and the entire team frankly i mean it takes teamwork to make the team work so i think this was a great testament to collaboration and how you know not everything has to be i mean there's an element of competition and meritocracy of course but like we've really focused on you know making sure that everybody has you know equal footing and opportunity and openness and and mind share i i mean i've learned a lot through this process and it's you know multiply that by everybody who's been here and just the amount of like learnings that's happened just by sort of cross-pollinating ideas and and knowledge and just you know the world's sort of coming together um having colorado is a place who's really willing to kind of in the world of like real life things experiment and like i said take those risks is really fabulous so uh for those that have any questions of course you'll be able to reach us uh through the typical means of conversation for the time being if there's anything that's sort of lingering or remaining for you feel free to reach out if for some reason you did not get a swag bag and and you want to reach out to us at some point we do have a few extras not many these are limited edition t-shirts so by all means rock them because they're actually really comfortable these are the same uh t-shirt um frames the same actual shirts that we use for eat denver which have international recognition for being the softest t-shirts that you could ever get at a conference so um and we always say well that's because it's not a conference it's a community gathering so um it's going to be really fun to see where things go here we're honored to have lou move into this special advisory role at the state level you know reimagining the digital transformation of our great state and we look forward to contributing whatever creativity we can there and we look forward to the next iteration of all things jamming colorado so um stay tuned for more information on that as everybody knows eat denver is typically in february every year the last three years 2018 2019 2020 uh we are in the early stage well we're in the stages of determining exactly what's going to happen with the denver this year due to covet but we are going to likely do something so uh keep your ears open for that whether it's an in-person or virtual event um i don't think it's going to matter i mean the creativity that we attract based on the kinds of things that we do i think is going to continue to prosper and we'll look forward to continuing to build and biddle all things technology all things innovation all things creativity and all things collaboration so with that i'm going to say thank you and good evening to everybody thank you tom and the lottery team thank you lou and the department of revenue and also the governor's office for that and thank you patrick and chain link and sergey and adeline thank you tyson and igt and all the other creatives there uh thank you gitcoin for providing some last minute support and also thank you to our colorado and worldwide community so we'll look forward to seeing you on our next installment take care everybody thanks everyone
