Aris who was on stage earlier so please come back but this time she's representing E63 which is the Filipino branch of eth right uh and of course our moderator uh wait are you the moderator or oh Quinn Quinn is the moderator okay ladies and gentlemen Quinn gang from East Vietnam yeah [Music] oh and uh just for your information Noah is replacing Vivian Chen from Pagoda who sadly couldn't make it for today so ladies and gentlemen the topic of uh today's panel is uh connections Asia OS myal connections of Asia web free communities how to link everybody together Quinn take it away hi everyone Welcome to our panel Asia OS the connection between web three community in Asia so we have the distinct guest panelists here um shall we start with the introduction please um introduce yourself and what is your focus now start with Kim first yep uh so hi everyone so I'm Kim Shen Kai I'm the commun manager of IFK so uh IFK is independent um community based in K uh we've been running uh meetups since uh 2018 and our goal is to to share etherum M related technology specifically in quador thank you I think I just give 50 minute of my introduction maybe briefly for friends who did enjoy yeah um hi guys my name is NOA from Taiwan from communic cal. zero we do digital public GS infrastructure in Taiwan between Civic hacking communities and web communities hello so I'm Tin uh um I we're we're growing the community of ethereum in the Philippines we're relative relatively new start just started 2023 but found that there are a lot of passionate Filipinos about the ethereum technology so yeah hoping to grow it more with the connections across southeast Asia yeah and uh my name is Ken I'm from Vietnam also like we do e Vietnam we privileg and also like education for developers and also support the early stage project in Vietnam um yeah so let's start the panel so I know that he also I have a lot of friends like overseas also even come from you know America or Europe so I want to start our Panner with the first question about you know our Asia Community what is the difference or what is the advantage of web three space in Asia compared to other regions and maybe you can say the just like one two thing briefly about this how do you see Asia Community or web Tre space in Asia compared to other region okay I I guess I'll go first I think what's un uniquely as is our communal Community where we care about our neighbors or what is happening to um anyone who is part of the community so I think that plays a big role in growing growing either you across Asia and um you know just just uh bringing bringing along uh what what is uh what what are the assets we can give to the other neighbors and uh in Pagoda we have this exchange layer where we where where we kind of share share resources to everyone and I think that is uh something that um everyone can can benefit from and a catalyst for the growing communities yeah I'll go next um I I think there's a very interesting I I don't know if you I I talked to you guys about this before but I don't know if you guys have ever heard of a theory called the rice Theory uh has anyone no yeah oh two oh wow okay that's a surprise so the the rice Theory uh theory is uh very interesting right the rise Theory um talks about how Asian communities or communting in the West is very uh in in the East is very different from communities in the west and if because we are uh rice Planters and in the west it's mostly wheat Planters Planters and rice Planters are a little bit different because if you want to grow rice um you have to be more collaborative the irrigation systems that's required as a foundation to grow rice requires a lot of like different Farmers to collect Library together to actually build uh irrigation system and the harvesting season is also aligned um for for people to collaborate to do the harvesting while in the West for wheat harvesting it's very individualistic right so that um that that kind of cult underlying culture alone I think can be quite interesting in pushing the Asia communities collaborating together and I think we're seeing that all around too yep um so on me I think um uh web stream in Asia is definitely growing I think the one of the most like prominent thing is I get to know personally uh people uh on the panel Noah uh and also like uh tin and also Christine I think um yeah so I think this hype also um I would like to TK it to the the deathcon effect I think um this year like since defc is is hosted in Asia I think in Malaysia specifically I think we are also quite excited excited uh last year and think we built our community quite strongly we hosted two events and also like we get to like uh kind of like meet with uh all of these people uh like uh Christie Christie mentioned we meet in Pagoda so yeah I think uh like uh it's growing and I think we are making more connections across uh across Asia so what do you see the you know um potential for Asia web three space compared to other region also in in terms of developer in terms of community in terms of project here uh I can go first I I was talking to a link from GCC yesterday and because if you guys know a lot of things are happening in chai recently and uh like funing commment H City public cities and and all that so one thing I think that's uh very important that we see that that's has a lot of potential to grow is that these communities are uh have a lot more um modalized Specialties where um for example GCC in in chai is having all these like different uh people who are more professional or specialized in specific functions and when uh for example a community from the West wants to come in and build something together in chimi do a event doing conference popup CD and the sort and they can basically just plug in and these kind of fun function of these communities are now uh much more well defined and much more well communicated with everywhere else in um in in either in Asia or for for the Western communities to come in so I think that alone is a very powerful it's the well-defined API right well-defined uh uh uh open source project so that alone is very useful in terms of collaborations so I see a lot of potential for for growth there um so for me I think um the growth is actually uh quite uh easy to see like uh let's say in Malaysia for example I think we are seeing a lot of young hackers are coming to hackathons as well we are seeing a lot of like uh University Le blockchain clubs but also hosting events hosting event themselves collaborating with uh protocols in the protocol level and also like uh we're having more people who are uh well known for in a basic level of like what to build in web tree and also they are learning this in a very very like um I would say the the right path the right Vibes of of uh of web tree that's intended to be so I think uh yeah we can see it from the young Roots uh right now so I think yeah definitely uh it's an advantage that that we currently have right now uh as someone um running running workshops uh everywhere in the Philippines what I found out is that we don't just have passionate developers we have also passionate users who are ready to explore new new applications of uh ethereum and blockchain so I think that's one of the most uh promising things about Asia that uh we don't just have ready people who want to who wanted to learn the skills but we have we also have ready users who are ready to uh figure out what this technology is about and what how it can apply to their daily lives yeah I tot totally agree because like also for example in Vietnam we have a lot of developers and also for the user we have like kind of 18 million crypto user we have 900,000 developers and the growth rate is like grow super super fast and I see the good thing about Asia is like you know young population also like regulation like from government also like kind of open for blockchain technology and also support and also like all the Asia communities super vibrant like every week every month we have something happening and also I see the collaboration between different community in different countries so let's like you know talk more about that so we all hear like from different communities in Malaysia in Philippine in taipe Vietnam and also like a lot other friends in you know Asia in our group also so so far like what is the collaboration between different like you know community in different countries that you see that can create the great impact in the region I think I can start first so like uh you're talking about like uh cross collaboration between uh different cultures right so like um I would say like um to start off I think we Asians are generally very shy so I think uh like taking the first step is definitely like uh important but when I when I when I think about like multiculturism I think uh like whether we can like uh we can collaborate across cultures across different cultures different languages for example I think Malaysia is one of the the good example because uh by default we actually uh we actually like uh we are we are diversity by default actually so we have uh we have Chinese Malay uh Indonesia uh and Chinese Malay sorry Chinese Malay and um Indians and also that also like uh that's also true in the the current like IFK contributor as well so that there these Tre like uh uh different uh religions and I think like this is also like uh something that uh I think um brings like uh truth to like whether like um collaboration across cultures does exist but I think as long as we have like the same uh the same goal with different identities I think uh the goals are more important so I that we think that that's a win for us yeah oh uh what the question it's about collaboration between different communities right example like yeah I think this a good example e KL uh everyone everyone is um participating and have something to share especially in terms of knowledge and experience so uh I think this is one of the examples of collaborations between communities and also uh it's not just inperson events but online um I I I get to meet people who are from other countries in Southeast Asia who are teaching cryptography in ZK and uh people in psse um they I I uh there is not a lot of uh cryptography workshops in the Philippines so um I I I got those Knowledge from outside and and uh the people in PSC are very willing to share their workshops to uh Filipinos so I I think uh that is one of the examples but there are many more like for example uh I was I I actually have a secret mission here in e k which is to um bring bring a channel for Filipino developers and Malaysian developers to be able to communicate together and team up uh however they like and I think uh that is one of the biggest opportunities to have the Asian Builders uh team up together and learn from each other yeah I I think I talked about the uh modelization of communities um earlier I think the other thing is also I think one example is from uh one our one one of things that the community Pagoda did that when it came to CH changai it did something to because um for example like uh some Western conferences did have a lot of collaborations in taipe in Tokyo in in other places so and there are like uh it was it was very good collaborations but there were also like gaps communication gaps that between um uh these conferences and local context right so um having uh interface layer to basically uh to uh mitigate these gaps I think it's uh quite important so so for the conferences they have more context on how it works on a local level how collaborations can be better and for local communities they have a better way to to really work with these Global uh conferences so these are some of the examples that I think not only having like specific functions modalized functions that people can plug into but there's also the communication the humanity side how you really work with each other because we are very different people um even from Asia it's very different people right so that interface of humanity is I think is also very important yeah so sharing a bit about the context here so for about Pagoda maybe you haven't heard of it like so pagota is like kind of Asia Alliance for all the Asia communities and right now pagota also have total more more than 12 uh communi from different 12 countries so for example all we are here like one of the you know pagod in Pagoda so what the mission of the pagota is like we also want to get all the Asia Community together and we also can you know talk about the region um Pro problem and also like how we can like all to hack it together and also we can bring all the resources together to make it like you know the impact movement in the region so maybe like talk about is one of the example about the big collaboration and no I also mentioned about like you know for example like when we at whenever we have events thing also people can join and in the region but also more than that we also building different like Tech layer or even Proto being or other social layers so maybe like anyone of you like can share a bit more about the impact of that in the region focus on the collaboration from Pagoda I think uh I think one of the most beautiful things about Pagoda is it's uh it doesn't just have a a a tech Mission or a community Mission but it also has it's also based in a philosophy that um we're we're all here together to uh to bring out the encraft the narrative in Asia so uh yeah I I think that is uh one of the of the best things about uh about Pagoda it's also it's it's not just uh techn about technology and Community it's also about the unique Asian philosophy and narrative that we want to uh we want to show to the to the rest of the global scene uh I think to me even in decentralized organization or decentralized context trust is still very important right so for people to actually work together for communities to actually work together you have to trust one another to be able to deliver what they promised so building that I I think in the pagodane so far is that he has built a trust across Asian communities and so when we go to when like for me EX for example I come here I know I can trust Vienna I can trust uh uh people from eth KL then I can uh showcase the the best of myself instead of having all those uh uh doubts of where should I where should I go will I really have a speaking spot or what whatever s s such as that because that happen taipe right so um so those I I think the foundation of trust is the base layer for everything to scale much faster later on so that's a very good foundation that I think across Asia that Pagoda has built so far y I think Christine shared something earlier about like sharing resources I think this is something that uh is beneficial across uh across the the like Pagoda as well because for me I I think like uh as a like a as a like independent meetups right you need to like create content per se for every month and then uh like sometimes it's not easy to kind of like uh to to keep it aesh sometimes you have to find like uh people who are very deep into space but with this like uh Pagoda Circle right I think um it's easy for us to to to get a resource or like to have speakers from from from each other I think is also like a I would say like an efficient way to to kind of like to spread our resources and to keep things AR fresh and also like build connections yeah so we don't have much time left so the last question because I also wrote to Deon coming soon next month so how do you Vision like you know the collaboration between all the community in Asia will happen in you know Decon and also in the next coming years to create the impacts okay I'll go first so we're doing an etherum southeast Asia Hub right in the middle of dcon to show what is going on to each uh with each communities in uh southeast Asia and aside from that um I I think Pagoda is also doing a a GM uh GM day yes GM day uh and and I think those were one of the things I'm excited about because that's where the rest of the world understand what is going on here and what what each Community is doing and what is happening um and yeah I I I'm just generally looking forward even after dcon that we continue this uh this this advocacy and collaboration with each other and I hope it grows as the year passes by yeah for me uh quite simple I think uh like we are speaking like the death cor effect right so I think like this is also as a scaling point for us to kind of meet and we can take it off from there to like do uh consistent connections and like collaborations I think deathcon is definitely a start I think moving forward there I think definitely there's more like uh opportunities of collaborations uh I think uh in the future so yeah excited to see the first step in Defcon and then see what we can do next I I do think the uh uh collaboration layer that because this is Asia OS right the Asia OS the collaboration that we've built so far is so at this moment a prototype uh in a sense and we've done a lot of tests with the prototypes with different Global communities and all that kind of stuff and I do think Devcon is a opportunity to test its scalability in a way and to to test uh to to make to learn from it and make iterations out of this Asos the this layer of collaboration I think that's also a very important part of how Devon can play a role in Asia um in a way so going forward I don't know what's goingon to happen but I look look forward to collaborating with more people uh globally yeah I just think that you know it's not only for Asia Community but the big thing is this like you know really the collaboration with other region also like La time America you know Africa and also like bring all friends here to Asia and we also explore the potential and how we also can create impact in region and also see the lot collaboration you know among the globe and also like I I see that that's the good thing like for example like next this month you also have like multiple popup Village in Chong ma like all friends come and make the effort also here to bring fans like different like you know global leaders and also community in Asia and also trying to see like what is the problem in the region they also can support us and that is a lot of opportunities that open for not only Asia committee but only Sol or in other region and that's fascinating so thank you so much for spending time for the panel and hope that is insightful for our friends and thank you have a good day thank you guys thank you guys Kim Noah Christine Quinn thank you so much for sharing
