okay hello everybody who is in the stands and hello people who are waiting hello people over there what's up okay welcome to Denver ah this is exciting we are very excited for all of you to be here we got some people hanging out in the beanbags so it's just nice we got some people way in the back which is nice and so right now what I'm gonna do my name is Reese Lynn mark by the way I'm one of the co-organizers of the event I'm just gonna give a brief outline of what this pre hack looks like to kind of help you understand what your day is gonna look like and then maybe we'll have some time for questions so with that let's do it before beginning anything I want to say thank you so much to our sponsors this event is free which is crazy there's like free food there's prizes there's all this stuff and this is all possible because of these sponsors and these sponsors and as you can see there's a lot of sponsors um and that is because they essentially kept on saying we want to be here we want to be here we set Kapton saying okay we'll make the event bigger and bigger and try to fit more people in so thank you again so much to these sponsors for being here and for sponsoring the event um before diving into some more specific logistics I want to say a couple things to kind of be aware of before we go in so at a high level there's gonna be a lot of content this weekend there's 50 or so workshops which is a lot of workshops there's 16 panels each of which has four people on them there's a whole bunch of there's an opening ceremony there's a closing ceremony there's a lot of content but you have to balance that content yourself essentially so there are these three kind of pillars here there's like the learning side of things and that's workshops that's diving and chatting with people that is both coding workshops non coding workshops and then we also have a bunch of building stuff so a lot of you here are here to do side of things and the final piece here is this community piece so this is hanging out with each other making connections building real relationships so you can't do all these things all the time so you yourself are going to have to say ooh do I want to watch this workshop or ooh do I want to go to this hacking thing or ooh do I want to just hang out with someone and just one final note on that all of these videos are being live streamed so if there's something that you feel some FOMO about you cannot go and then watch it on the live stream which will be recorded and posted online later yeah so that is that's the lots of content peace and you yourself are gonna have to balance between those things the other note here is that there's lots of other stuff here we have you know an art gallery over there we got some crazy art stuff happening on the roof we got the beam bed so there's other things so just walk around that's that's the other part of this is we're trying to build a full experience here and part of that is is for you to explore it so the final thing to say here is this point here about getting packed so we're at the very beginning of our day right now and it's not very packed but by 7:30 tonight we expect to have about a thousand people if not more likely more yep John is saying it's gonna be more we expect more to be here and there and over there this is not a conference kind of hotel space we actively chose this kind of cypherpunk e thing because that's the ethos that we wanted to have it East Enver so you're gonna if you might need to kind of work with us you know if you need to stand in the back if you if you're someone in that corner who can't really see this that was the goal we didn't want it to be just like a classic hotel conference room so definitely work with us on that expect it to probably get hot in here expect it to be colder in that room this is a 1920s kind of car showroom that we've essentially repurposed for this event so bear with us the final piece here is about co-creating this event together and so that idea is one that's pretty kind of crucial to the blockchain space into the etherium ecosystem which is the decentralization of power and ideas and work so this is not supposed to be some kind of like hey we are talking to you you are the recipient of information we are the giver of information and your if you have like some problem that you go oh I'm uh I can't do anything no we're co-creating it together so that means that you are chatting with the people around you you are make if there's a problem you're kind of bringing it up to us if there are things where you want to interact the people around you and create some organic cool whatever please do it this idea of co-creation is one that we really want to push up this event that's not just from us to you but is rather a co-created thing and then the final note here is please let us know if we can help anybody who has these kind of pink t-shirts you can come and chat with us we are these stewards of ethan ver and so come to us with any questions any feedback that you might have and then anybody else likely with one of those purple eath denver t-shirts is a volunteer so you can also chat with them um so that's just a kind of being aware of side now let's talk about some other logistics so there are so from a food perspective food is free for the entire event which is awesome and we have the seven local food trucks which will be here from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and actually it might be more like 8:30 a.
m. to 10 p.m. so this is gonna be all day every day they'll be right out there so whenever you're hungry go get food and you'll use your little colorado coin your little green coin that you got you'll use the QR code on that in order to get food so one final note on that food truck thing we have these brakes that are around lunchtime but if everybody goes outside during that time it's you're gonna have lines so if you're hungry at 11:30 eat at 11:30 if you're hungry at to eat at 2:00 don't everybody eat at 12:30 oh cool the other note here is that there are two stage there's the East stage right here and then there's the way stage which is over there so we have these two different stages and you kind of can go in between them as you would like the other note here is that floors 1 & 2 are for workshops so we're essentially on floor 1 right now it's kind of a weird building in terms of how the floors work but essentially if you have a workshop general admission ticket and you can go on this floor and you can also go on one floor up over there but the floor is all above that are all for hackers only and there's a lot of like hacker space there so that's what that looks like from a bathroom perspective there are bathrooms over there I believe yep outside over there on there actually a really nice bathroom so check that out and then we also have bathrooms upstairs on kind of like the third floor right above me over here we already talked about the stewards in pink so the badge and the wristband side of things this as we have been saying over the twitters in the emails there was a lot of interest in this event which was very fun and exciting but that meant that we had to say no to lots and lots of people and we expect there to be lots of people to kind of come here and be like hey I want to get in or whatever and we are trying to have a we've tried to be fair with respect to everybody and to have a know kind we want this space to not we don't want to get busted for fire code essentially um and so we're really at max capacity so we will be saying no to people who are at the door that don't that aren't on the list and so if you have make sure to have your badge on you at all times and I think everybody has wristbands yep sweet so have your wristbands as well if you don't have both of those then we will stop you and we will say what are you doing here and if you don't have those you can go to the front desk if you lose it somehow um you can go to the front desk and we can work with you to get a new one but we're really trying to make sure that this area does not get fire coated so that's that's the idea one final note here is from a pure kind of hackathon perspective can't begin like coating your actual project before 10:00 p.m.
tonight so 10:00 p.m. tonight after the opening ceremony is when the hackathon actually begins before that point it is this is a these are workshops this is learning that you can use side projects all that but we don't want to kind of disadvantage the people who didn't want to come here and so that you guys can just start coding away or hacking away on whatever you're hacking on before 10 p.m. 10 p.
m. is the time the other notes here are if you are not on our slack you should definitely be on our slack because that's what we will do pretty much all of our organizational logistics so please go to either Colorado blockchain comm or slack Paseos ash Colorado blockchain you can almost certainly access it from eath Denver comm as well so get on the slack that's where all the logistics will happen and then another note here is if you haven't signed up for dev post if you're a hacker and you haven't signed up for dev post you need to go to East Denver comm or Denver dev post comm and that's where you can sign up to dev post and that's where you will form your team and actually submit your hack at the end just sticks from a schedule perspective so again a reminder you can go to East Denver calm or schedule D stand for calm to look at the content and all content essentially runs in parallel so besides this right now there's no ghost me over there we have workshops that start at 9 a.m. and go till 12 p.m.
and then we'll have a break around lunchtime for about an hour and a half and then workshops again happen from 1:30 to 5:15 so that happens both on this stage and on the way stage and that's happening pretty much from now until 5:15 and each of the pre hack workshops are about 40 45 minutes long so with that the other note here is team formation so we're going to have so a lot of people have already online made they're kind of hacking teams together but if you haven't that's also ok and you can start to make them over the course of today start chatting with people start chatting about the ideas you might have and then we'll have a very explicit so you can form teams before then but we'll also have an explicit kind of team formation time on this stage at 5:15 where we'll get people together we'll have kind of an organized mingle session speed-dating something or other for team formation so that will happen at 5:15 and then at 6:00 there's you can go dinner there's more breaks and then there's this diversity dinner with Maidan and a note on that is you don't have to be diverse to go to that dinner you can be a ally and go to that dinner and say yo I care about the future of the world and all kinds of people being part of that how can I help um so feel free to go that dinner as well that will be I believe up there so yeah that's at 6:00 p.m. and then finally we'll have this opening ceremony which is essentially two and a half hours of exciting both keynotes and sponsor talks and those kinds of things to kind of kick off and that'll be on this stage and that's when it'll be packed likely and then we'll start the hackathon tonight with some night workshops at 10:15 so one final note on this is that the in general the East stage has more kind of coding style content and the way stage has more you can call it general content you could call it it's things like decentralized governance or systems thinking or design thinking or things like that so this stage is more coding specific and that stage is more kind of general content and then one other note here is that if you want to and I think we're gonna have this it's so after the speakers speak they will be they will go offstage and likely it'll either be in the back over there or maybe more likely over there that'll be a place for people to kind of congregate and chat with them afterwards so all the speakers are into that and want to kind of help you afterwards but that'll happen kind of offstage likely over there yeah so with that hate John do you have do you want to say anything I'll ask some questions in a hot SEC but let me bring up my co organizer John pallor up here what's up great job Ruiz welcome to eat Denver I'm surprised y'all here so early this kidding ya the enthusiasm for this events been pretty insane frankly for us as organizers watching it one of our major priorities was to showcase Colorado and have so many people wanting to come here and experience Colorado together while building the ether space is just absolutely a dream come true so thank you for coming we hope you enjoy everything today I'll just reiterate a couple quick things we originally were thinking about having like oh let's it'd be cool to have like three or four hundred people well maybe like four hundred and one just so we could be eath Waterloo and it turned into like something really pretty crazy so we made a decision as opposed to having a thousand people on the wait list that we would pretty much just put as many people in here as we could so be prepared to be friendly okay now what does that mean I don't know you figure it out but we've got plenty of space around if you're hacking we've got two different chill spaces we've got eighty five eight-foot beanbags that you can literally crash on if you're like exhausted I know on beat we've been up pretty much all night preparing for all of this we've been like for a week so if we're a little bit zombie ask like just kick us and we'll wake up there's anything anybody needs our staff is here to help you your experience is number one at the end of the event we're going to ask you how do we do we want honest feedback we want to know how we can improve and ultimately we're gonna have this event every year so we want to make it we want to make it a mainstage event in the ether space we want everybody from around the world to want to come here in fact a couple of quick statistics we have just about 1,300 people that are actually registered to come in attend we have 600 people still on the waitlist so if you know of anybody that's not coming please tell us and we'd like to get somebody else in 23 countries how about that who knew that Denver was an international hub like I guess we have a pretty cool airport but additionally just a couple of quick statistics blockchain events typically have about 3% gender diversity we have just about 21% from an overall diversity perspective we have about 52 percent now some people might say well you know the sgw thing I'm not really into that you contrive this stuff it feels a little forced none of this was forced it was absolutely an organic thing are we have a diversity steward crew that did outreach to different groups all across the country and our message was the same to every group it didn't matter where you came from we didn't care it doesn't matter Europe we are about unique intelligences and bringing people from all walks of life to come together to do this and it was really cool to watch because it just happened and so thank you for that I mean it's just a really great testament to the kinds of people that are in our space and the things that we can kind of do together so we're not gonna beat on that drum too much because we're just here as human beings sharing the world doing our thing building cool stuff so I'm around if you want to come say hi I'm really pretty busy so forgive me if I'm like running places I'm gonna try not to do that too much but if you need anything just let us know and we'll see you guys around we got what three days of this so we'll see you around thank you thank you Johan are there any questions we have maybe if we want to we can take seven minutes of questions so if anybody has any questions please raise your hand now and I will look at you in the stands yes what's up yes so the East stage is here and it's kind of the main stage or stage one and then the way stage is over there through those doors where the person with the top hat is that's the way stage and that's kind of the side stage or stage to go thank you for your question yep yeah so the Wi-Fi password there is no password you can go to East Denver visitor I think is what it's called and if you go there it should just say like a continue to internet button and that should work the East hacker one I don't know I can get that for you later so the second floor so if you have a workshop or like general admission ticket you can also go onto that floor that second floor over there and that has all of the kind of sponsor booths so there's gonna be a bunch of people up there that are the sponsor is kind of talking about what they do and talking about the prize that they have and those kinds of things so that's what you can do to go up there just told I'm gonna bring him over there okay other questions last chance okay cool so we're gonna take about a 10 minute break right now if you're interested in whatever is coming up next then it's gonna be here in 10 minutes and there in 10 minutes and we'll begin then thank you again so much for being here [Music]
