next speaker are we calling on Danielle um he will properly introduce himself when he comes on stage please a round of applause for him thank you um yeah uh sorry um I'm recovering from sck neck so my voice is a little bit raspy um sorry I really I really liked your talk espe about um trust and course trust is a big serious problem um to answer your question to add to what she said um think of it at credit system we do not have a efficient credit system in Nigeria if I want to buy yes my time if I want to buy a phone I have to save up that money in B and then go and buy the phone if I was living in the US or in the UK I can pretty much split my salary into 12 months or or or even two years and pay that thing so that's like an issue of high cost of transaction thank you very much so about my talk today your name yes I'll get to there my talk is about thisi um web three and the future of scientific um collaboration also an earlier speaker um spoke about um e made a reference to thisi and I'll be talking about it so my name is Daniel and and what am I currently I'm a contributor at vadal it's a decentralized autonomous organization that's into funding of um longevity related research um I'm also the founder of um thisi Africa and my Twitter is this so yes who am I back so I wanted to make a joke about what am I um about me I'm Batman why I say I'm Batman is because people like say I do a lot of things so if you probably follow me on socials you see me ranting about different type of things things about renewable energy things about construction things about iot things about cuz I like I feel like the world is a big one and you can do a lot of things in the world word uh so let's C of time so yeah I'll be talking about Di and what is di dii stands for decentralized Science and decentralized science is a movement aiming to um decentralize how science is done so we are trying to bring science on chain and um You probably heard of things about real world assets which is rwa we've heard about decentralized finance and all and all so this side is more about a movement trying to see how can we make um science more open more accessible and um more collaborations in it um almost some people went to the universities here and you probably did research papers right show of hands yes um those research papers you did you had to sort for um articles to you know to make citations for yes how easy was it for you to assess some of those Works was it easy yeah it was not easy there are most that a lot of them for you to have access to it you would have to pay money and so what we do cuz I I WR my paper um what you do is that you just only go to the abstract and look at what they said because the abstract is free now and look at what they say in the abstract and you not like oh the abstract is talking about something like this and then I'm on camera but you maybe use some websites that you know that allows you to have backd door access to those article nothing Financial advice or anything but yeah this side is looking at a way to solve those problems whereby um yeah those um challenges pay Wars and restricted access to Scientific journals where you can't um have the money to build on those research and knowledge is a very important thing in the sense that we build on the work of others nothing ever is brand new you build on what people did two years ago what people did 40 years ago if you even look at the um history of um about Einstein and relativity theory if you look at the work he did he built on like other scientists before him and he was able to you know look at their work and and build on that but we have this problem whereby now um capitalism I do not I'm not a fan against capitalism I'm not an anti- capitalist person I'm not a socialist I don't think socialism is the right answer but I know capitalism has these problems and we have this issue whereby companies now see um an opportunity to make as much profit as they can and we have this issue with scientific journals like nature and all if you are to publish anything there you spend nothing less than $20,000 to publish and it's for you to be like known as a renowned scientist you must have journals published in those places they don't in the scientific Community don't really regard research Gates research Gates is the ones we usually use to upload and all but they don't regard it as a um serious one so we have issue of you know also um centralized funding models whereby um companies Farm big farmer just funds um projects that they are tied with and also have limited collaboration and sharing of data okay I'm not I'm not too used to this sorry so how can web 3 transform science um we have through decentralized funding through Dows and tokenization so for example I've been a contributor at V DS since 2021 and since then we've funded over 22 projects and we've deployed more than 3.4 million dollars when it comes to research funding what how does it happen um research teams meet us and they meet the DU flow group and they submit a proposal and say okay this is our research maybe we are doing something around gene therapy we're doing something about aesia research we doing something about this you know and it's evaluated and there are some like criteria it's not something like you just come in and you just get free money like that but like there are criterias you go through and once the community decides that the funding is um the research is a good research they fund it and we've seen situations since 2021 we've seen a lot of growths more than five projects who funded at their early stage have gone um up to you know res seat funding and more valuation we've seen um um research bring positive results and all sorry I'm talking a little bit too but yeah also open assess publishing using blockchain there's a platform called research Hub it allows you to publish any um your academic Journal you publish there and you have access to any academic Journal free of charge any publish there it's not like um the old ones you just have access to it it's still a new platform and people are still building on it and Publishing but it allows you to publish and you get actual renowned scientists to um Reay review your work and you also get incentivized with tokens for it uh imitable records of research and Providence so reward examples of this side in action there's lab da um people who are into um biology protein synthesization and um or labow allows you to um work on cellular cellular design in the sense of um running analysis on chain and you are able to um deploy choose the cells you want to Target run an experiment on it and it tells you um the result and everything like it's on chain so it's like an open to an infrastructure in the dide space there's also like I talked about V da it's a community owned da for longevity research so if you're trying to longevity research basically talks about extending human life and um I know it might sound somehow why do we want to extend human life but like it's all most of the issues that we have with old age comes with aging um sorry most issues diseases we have come with ag as you get older you start noticing things like arthritis things like Acasia and other like most things like where do when you notice that parents are usually the ones to visit the hospital often so they're trying to fund research in that space there's also like I mentioned research Hub open scientific publishing platform um it allows you all these are like um journals that have been published it allows you access to it you can read it you can also upload and you also they have a research Hub um token for it so this is the DI ecosystem of 2024 um there are lots of projects in the D side space we have the research Dows we have bods bods are um molecule they are DS that were incubated by molecule and they are mostly into um biology related things we have um there's breaker do there's breaker down breaker down there's side side Dow is more of um psychedelic cryst research there's hair do hair these on hair loss research there's vadal longevity there's valid synthetic biology there's Kyo um kinetics there are others there's publishing too other people working in the publishing people in funding um people also in health care axonal well share trying to see how you can you can use your data and own your data and also get um rewards for your data also people building around infrastructure and they are also like this side commun there's this side Mexico this side London this side Japan um obviously this side Africa and all so envisioning the future with thisi um the future with thisi looks at What's happen so increase Global collaboration and sharing for example um I schooled at unn and why we do not have the best facilities and all this side would make it possible for you know the research institution there to work with other um schools in other places and they're able to like um work on chain and share research data there's also um democratized access to funding resources recently there's a lab Institute that they raised about 75 ET it was you know the same way where people um crowdfund meme coins and all um they did a new approach with molecule molecule made people could come put in their money and support the so it could maybe it's a sickness that has affected someone you loved and you you feel like okay these people have a chance to solve it you could come in and um fund it and you get tokens for it also acceleration of innovation through community-driven research um if you notice maybe when you go home you could Google things around patent um patient Le research we've seen cases where people who do not have access to um big money are able to solve problems because their loved ones are actually facing it the research and they actually um have solutions for them so ethical and transparent research proposes challenges with this side efficient Dow structure um Dows have their problems because a lot of people we have this slow participation when it comes to Da you could see more than 20,000 people in the Dow Discord but on da forums people don't really vote on proposals people don't really um voice out their opinion or what they think or what they feel um also cultural shift and research practices when I preach to my lecturers and tell them about this and this one and they are like I'm I'm already old I will not leave the way I know it's not now that I'm in my old age I'll be learning how to eat with left hand things like that we also have um legal and regulator of certain things too especially in a country like this and also inclusivity and assets because um a lot of people currently most of the projects that have been funded through vadal we are mostly all in um all in like foreign um universities so how can you get involved with this side you can join or support this side initiatives and DS there are lots of DS you can advocate for open assets and transparent search you can also collaborate with people and work with them you can also educate others about this s and web 3 uh thank you very much and uh yeah so my name Daniel and all and all you can reach out to me on Twitter here you can also see me in person and reach out to me um I'm always CH I think and um thank you very much so if you reach out to me on you see that I'm sh posting a lot bear with me that's how I am I'm not used to branding online and everything thank you please a round of applause for him and I'm I'm really sorry for for not giving me enough time but I'm going to allow one question so if you have a question for him I think he did an amazing job so okay we have one question okay so like I mentioned I enjoyed um Scot session yesterday and this like a nice narrative so question I'm asking I believe it would also be essential for people here um I see their doubts in the this ecosystem what opportunities are there for like the average web three user um are they looking for like technical contributions or like solid skills or just anybody with like the basic skills can come and start contributing okay um thank you very much for that so there a dow that was launched this year celom da and currently they have a proposal up for their compensation for contributors so inside it they highlighted like rowes there and so in those roles they are r rules like project management there are roles like writers there are roles like product design they don't really need devs like that but sometimes some projects worked with Dev because mostly is research and all but like so if you go through their compens um their most DS have compensation um proposals so if you go through they have like rules highlighted and how much for those rules and you know pay hour their pay and all so you could go through that and um find out even for the ones that have not yet put something like that if you hang around there Discord you're you're free to open and you know contribute to them and you get paid for contribution thank you okay please a round of applause for Daniel
