all right welcome everybody let's get started we've got a full day of program so I'm I'm Aaron and this is Tim and we're gonna give you the first session basic introduction to the swarm project in general and also more concretely what the team is doing what the roadmap is but it is it's my pleasure to start off by just reminding you of the big business for swarm where it fits into the ecosystem overall so you may remember that when the Thira project started it was not just about the etherium blockchain we had three components they're called etherium swarm and whisper the theorem is the blockchain that we all know whispered is a communications protocol allowing two people to anonymously communicate and swarm was meant to be the data storage part of this triad and the etherion swarm connection was that sperm would be used that was part of the original vision to store on the etherium state a state that's growing larger and larger we know that the problem signal nodes and so on well the idea was this would be the storage layer for the state in the voce and I'm happy to announce them as Piper's cheers have indicated there's progress on that front finally and I will be talking at 11:00 on the progress on storing a theorem state on swarm that's kind of exciting so that's all I will say about that right now the other half of this is a swarm and whisper now whisper was developed was developed but it's not a very efficient protocol because it was aimed at secrecy and anonymity swarm itself has a layer of transporting data and as such we figured it can also be used to transport messages so swarm has encompassed a messaging protocol so swarm and whisper together you can think of the original mission for those storage and communication are now part of the swarm project and so we like to say swarm is about storage and communication infrastructure for a sovereign digital society I'm gonna talk very briefly about the storage yes it's about a data storage and serving data communication because we can talk to you to peer across the network and the sovereignty so I'd like to point out that it this is really about reclaiming something that's lost on the Internet we as a citizens of the internet as digital society have lost sovereignty of the digital Commons everything that's out on the Internet is owned and controlled by third parties and if the theater or cryptocurrencies in general are about getting independence from the banking infrastructure then swarm in this context will be about getting independence for the internet itself that we are that adapt deployed our swarm will be controlled and owned by the people who use it and we sovereign in that sense it's not controlled by third party and we're not beholden to Google or cloud or any third party to host or control and we don't rely on them to run our data so that's why this is really so we talked about this slogan with him up with it other teams that support us this idea of sovereignty of reclaiming something that has been lost so that's that's one in the large vision let's but let's get back down to earth we need to talk about how we're actually going to go about delivering on this vision and on that note I'd like to introduce Tim who join our team earlier this year and he'll take it from here we keep her it's fun yeah I have still troubles to describe Marilla correctly so I started to join you March 2019 but the story about me being involved with swarm started last November at DEFCON for having the create opportunity to have a normal or evening discussing a lot of topics with Victor and it was a yeah quite quite impressive and for me impressive conversation and I got inspired by small I really could hop up by the idea that we have the storage layer which needs to be delivered to allow us to have the sovereignty it with our applications and to provide an Internet of the Commons so very important for swarm obviously and flow and success as a platform project artists logistic partnerships so I'm really pleased that we made progress on that front and when I say strategic partnerships I mean really the organizations which put a lot of money and it's not doing it total justice because we have a lot of contributors in the community which are a lot now named tier which have been like little contributions but bigger contributions over some period of times the natural off again but those two the theme foundation and I will apps are at the moment the biggest supporters of swarm the theme foundation have been for a long time we have along the way again and against more from from from private owners from the theme community which allowed us to make progress nevertheless to operate on the scale we need to operate on compare that to idiom is very similar and this project needs similar resources and scale to operate to fulfill its mission with IOB labs we started the track system and swarm which means that we have different tracks deliveries tracks where we focus on different areas of delivery and I will axis the main sponsor and providing full-time employees and resources for developing incentives which are required to have that's a public incentivized network and I'm excited that we have great focus on this which will be presented later about a first implementation of swap we have the core track which is really focused on the core stability of the NGO clients which is sponsored by the theme foundation and we have this one communication track of where we identified some blockers which we need to resolve to move this forward we have multiple strategic partners which have a big interest and using PSS as a assistance follow-up development as an improved development which can be way more than what whisperer could do which can scale the goal is to run into a diploma where we have a public test Act which you can try like and we more focus on delivering the swarm main that some work xx xx end of 2020 2021 obviously the world is moving fast and so we need to move fast as well review 2019 what are the things which mainly happens we changed the way how we do development we started to go to use the stories and ethics we started to have different levels of abstractions to allow our partners our community to better understand what we are doing we established our last partnerships we planned on release cycle because swarm was with to get him and we had the same release cycle which we got him now we have our banana this gives our spread independence to move forward in the speed we need to move forward we established the script process in July which is the small improvement processes by te IPS is pretty much the key process put it for small we started ethion creation process the goal of this is to make for more competitive which means that we are not in internal as as a team which is just a better foundation but now we are in a crack negotiation step-by-step we deliver milestones and ensure that swarm is competitive in the ecosystem competitive in the sense that we have a high execution and one of the most important life changes like very recently it is the change of the management structure about the disease so management whispering let's speak about the lead sports release coach that is an acronym like swarm is very acronym close close to action as you will always find them and legal entity is an executive team as first as for a swarm form advisory for decisions I think this is the part here you need to remember that that is I think very important and the mandate is to mature the management structures to ensure that the organizational structures are given so we are speaking about a small foundation to security partnerships and the funding and to set environments to the first one on that zero do you like that topic yeah absolutely right to guarded protocol and to move further after the manatee realm a net loss and to ensure that ecosystem can grow just because of its sports all those people which around the discord have a background in manager companies in creating companies and the youngest of the sweet spots I'm super excited to rely on those many years of experience from figure who is sitting in a audience here Victor and and lobbying firm apart from epic labs so I'm really really happy and thankful there's three people we got into wrote them I mean I said we have two tracks this is kind of how we started right now but you will see that we will have more improvements about how we plan our roadmap in the future as well and please don't spend too much time here I will just walk towards I mean you see you see the point what we wanted to deliver is like kidding for example GPS as Kadima improvements eyes all the things we have with the film set on swarm as 11 the update about what we have there I'm quite excited that we will see the progress here you see it in the communication palette also and create improvement if you want to have a conversation about it speed to do this is the right person to speak to we actually got pushing with this which means you can synchronize chunks with over PS s in a network you see also the the Swift scamming app test also the first subscripts which is for example for and show respect protection that which was written by Daniel I'm also excited we have progress there but I don't want to go too deep in what we plans but this is what we delivered so this means with the 0 to 5 release we actually have the first time in this long history all the elements we think are needed to start ready to pivot with swarm because you can have basic guarantees with paying which means you can host your content on your local node and ensure it's not dropping off which is necessary to ensure that you can have your static website or whatever you want to ensure that it's not showing off the network we had a lot of experimental features which will be matured in 0.5 release line and that namely is like forcing the ability to disappear Travis ba PSS it's the progress bar which means that you can know when you actually we uploaded a file if you want to speak about it some Hoover's around its support do you like to show your hands thank you we have the swap which is yeah the first step in it setups there are many people to speak about it's like Victor you can speak with Fabio you can speak with the IV lapse team like vinca and and more tech we like to raise your arm full of and the PCC if I'm super excited to hear the presentation later FMP forecast 2020 this is a little bit vague at this moment that you will see that the more concrete over the next month as well strategic partnerships functioning so DEFCON is all about increasing our collaboration and trying new ones obviously ensuring that we mature the management structure to to ensure that we can execute with all those pockets together and from this concept policy and the developer experience so we get more adoption 2020 this won't spec for having the public land implementation of public incentivize test plan and equation of the small foundation I think that's all what I have to say at this given fort thanks for your attention I will hand over back oh yes just let you know yes thank you yeah so thank me so let me drop this slide now so you have it this is if you want to talk to us we get to get in touch with us there's a few new canonical points to contact the team we're on Twitter leaf swarm and we have the ethers from reddit which we're hoping to use more and more as the community grows and for people want to get into the development in our day to day chat we host our own matter most instance on beehive ether swarmed up org and as for the domains well we have a new domain I'm kind of happy about that because I wasn't sure we'd get it when the ENS long short names but our new homepage Ivana is the smoothest swarmed of evil so if it was previously the swarm that was to get over the seven character limit this is now our new homepage anyone can access that as long as they have swore if you don't yet have swarm and you need to use the old boring Internet and you only have HTTP or HTTPS well swarm that F isn't going to work for you you're going to have to add Irian org to see our website but that will also work that is the same content so active compact today what what we have let me mention we've got these talks in the morning that's where we are now from 11:30 onwards will have three workshops in a row they're about 17 minutes each an hour and 10 minutes and then breaks in between to get set up the first one is about getting started for as if you want to develop your apps on swarm just very basic how to do uploads and downloads and manage content just fundamentals the next one would we have some more advanced functions like I guess PSS messages ins and swarm feeds and so that all the features you might use for if you want to really tweak your map and this third workshop is about incentives which is one we're actually try with in this room to run a fully incentivized swarm network that is where all the nodes start paying each other micro payments and sending checks and doing all that stuff so that's exciting we tried it with a few people the other day and we checked it did I mean without a few notes but we're trying something bigger here so we're trying to get a whole room wide it's a big servicing store except if you want to be part of that that's a 240 and then at 4:00 in the afternoon we have a few more talks about entanglement codes it's it's actually an interesting way of getting redundancy in the data and swarm and they've done some great work what is mapping a server done see codes directly to the swarm data structures and Danny will talk about receipt persistency know how to make sure that data persistence isn't lost and then 414 will have an AMA a team ask me anything so everyone from the team because here at the time will answer your questions in the room or on reddit at east warm so if we really do want feedback from the community and that's the session we'll have a whole big discussion with everyone and now on the schedule it says next this Victor but he's asked me to switch things around so will actually move Unterman capital I think we come up next so they'll talk about large scales for deployments and then Victor will come up to that [Applause]
