10 - Swarm One: Fairdrop demo by Antonio

so i'm glad again to invite antonio to the stage uh who will uh talk about uh a variant of hello antonio of uh fair drop file exchange application so please antonio thank you thank you church okay so the idea that we got is all right we have swarm already so how do what's what would be the basic the minimum uh usage that we could we could put on top of we can build on top of swamp to make it easier for the user so that everybody can can actually use it uh well the easier it would be of course first layer upload a file and download the file and that's a very trivial used use case so let me go to this uh so we created fair drop which is this fair drop is a an application it's running on top of swarm um so it's a as it says it's a federation type of swarm and uh the idea would be to decentralize a file so anybody who wants to comes here to homes to this page will be able to to decentralize a file by that it means the file will be split will be into the different nodes you will arrive to the different people who will host pieces of that file but only the owner the the only the guys who holds the address can retrieve the file to the idea it's quite simple it's basically you just drag and drop a file however this service will be available very soon and only for the guys for for you who have registered are ready to opt in to receive products and and to test to just try to test drives and products that that that we're going to run so whenever you have this this page available you will be able to put in here your metamask whitelisted metamask or b or or a unit or your ens name and you will be able to drag and drop a file easy as that and this is a key thing that we want we are going we are including which which is to ability to the ability to encrypt the file when i say encrypt of course the file is going to be encrypted in the cloud or in the different nodes but the ability to encrypt the file locally so that only another ethereum address another public key another ens can decrypt the file so you're sending a file only to an address just to an address he's the only one who can retrieve and decrypt the file once you upload that file well actually it goes back to the swarm network and it starts doing its magic which is basically splitting the file as you know the chunk is the the very the smallest uh unity of information that travels around across the network it's gonna be split into chunks generating manifest stamp in the chunks so that it can be persistent on the network and once it's done the file is uploaded you will have a link and you'll have a balance as i said this is uh this is only for the test drives for the people who are opt-in to receive our products and services and uh well there's some information on top of the of the file and of course uh you can add persistence to the file in case you will you will need to have it for more time and that's basically it that's the idea but this is just just one file what happens if you want to upload more files and this is where third drive not another product comes into place
