The Rise of Multi-VM Environments | Albert Chon - Injective

Ethereum DenverThu, Oct 9, 2025, 12:00 AM

An overview of popular VM environments alongside some of their technical highlights and achievements, specially focusing on EVM, SVM and WASM. Then into problems posed by the fragmented VM environments (for example: a lack of composability, siloed developer communities and an overall hindrance to the growth of crypto). 🚀 Get Ready for ETHDenver 2025! 🚀 We're already hard at work preparing for next year's biggest Web3 event! Keep your eyes peeled for more info on ETHDenver 2025—it’s going to be epic! 🌟

hello hello everyone um my name is Albert Chan I'm the co-founder and CTO of objective labs and today I'll be talking about injective and the rise of multi-m environments oh sorry there sorry some tech difficulties and let's go to click clce on SP Tru from sheets that's my device n the fire sniffing B my copes to Cris May gossips tastier than breakfast chips sturry flurry hack [Music] flurry rels my cheeks encrypted and pl you PR DM I'm the dumpster e e and um you know as a developer until now you've had to choose which ones made sense for you um whether it be you know an eel 2 uh svm and app chain Etc but today I'm here to describe something new that we've created which is a a multi-m environment where we try to bring in the best of of all worlds um to allow developers to have greater flexibility in terms of in creating their applications I'll give you a quick example of how this will look like so injective is adding native evm support um in a multiv VM environment and what this will allow you to do is create an application have a smart contract that invokes um wasm contracts as well um so one example is that you could you could have a wasm contract perform heavier computation than you otherwise could have in the evm um you can do things like more advanced trypogeus all all in one transaction um to your uh solidity contract and then you can interact with um the native code that exists on injective such as for example through a pre-compiled contract you can place in order on on the injective um exchange module so this is just um like a a quick example that gives you um a sense of like what new types of design spaces um that can exist in is multiv VM environment so essentially we we extend the functionality that the evm developer Sol developers can have on the injective evm by giving you um access to km wasm or wasm which gives you the full power of rust um you can basically import any package using cargo you can do you can access much more state much more storage and do things that you really otherwise could not have done in solidity um Additionally you also um the was implementation H uses the actor model so you you prevent um re-entrance G out of the box additionally um by using the native code found on injective you get access from day one to deep onchain liquidity provided by our um spot and perpetuals um onchain exchange order book based Exchange as well as more advanced capabilities like automated smart contract execution um injective as a blockchain also provides many out-of-the-box modules that makes it very easy for developers to do things like bridging or access Oracle price feeds um and basically not have to reinvent a lot of the the infrastructure and reinvent the wheel um IBC interoperability is one big piece and one other um design space also I'd say is on your your contracts on on injective um on injective evm can interact with u multiple blockchains multi-chain um using IBC or the inter blockchain communication standard um so with the IBC Eureka upgrade injective we'll get um lightline support with ethereum and have you know secure IBC interoperability with ethereum salana polka dot and and the hundreds of others uh Cosmos chains that exist so this lets you extend um your application to to inter to compose with um contracts or other applications on something like ethereum where just to give you a quick example if you wanted to have logic that for example was a trading strategy um on an evm contract on injective but you wanted to hedge your exposure using um like Unis swap or um or or or a lending Pro protocol on a for example you could do so um on by using IBC some technical features of the injective evm is um first you get instant finality um so injective Spock time is 600 milliseconds or so and you you won't have to um run the risk of any reverts or um sorry uh reorgs um as you might find on and many other l2s or um or evm implementations also you get multi-m atomicity so in a single transaction you can you know call your evm contract which then calls a wasm contract which then gives you results back back and then you use those results to do other things like you know um like interact with injective or or or whatever have you all of that can be done in one transaction additionally we've worked on a single token representation so that in these different environments um your erc20 token um is interpretable and usable by by wasm but also the native code on injective which simplifies things for developers tremendously um in that similar vein we also integrated support for ERC 4337 which um which provides account abstraction capabilities and allows for things like um gas L transactions which are a big ux win yeah and one other interesting feature that I think is pretty unique to injective is the ability to have automated or scheduled contract execution um injective has a supported already for its wasm contracts but essentially What U what you can do is automate the execution of your contract um from the blockchain itself so it's almost like a self-initiated transaction and this can be very useful um in different scenarios where you want to provide more robust guarantees of execution um previously if you if you have your application on like an ethereum L2 or just ethereum you might have to use like a keeper sort of network and provide incentives for this execution to occur um and even then you don't actually know you don't have any guarantees that this will occur um this way you have that robust guarantee and of course um support for modern tooling um including Foundry hard hat web 3GS ethers JS Etc one of these toolings that um I'm excited to announce um support for is the graph um particularly subgraphs and substreams so we've integrated um substreams and fire hose into injective um and you can create um subgraphs that are either hosted by the graph Network um using substreams or you can create your own um custom substreams where for developers that want more flexibility and more control over over their indexing needs yeah to wrap things all up um the point I want to I guess convey is that injectives multiv VM environment enables basically a new design space for applications where you can have you can leverage multiple VMS use the best parts of each and and have just much more seamless and Powerful applications um to learn more we'll have we have we're having our Builder day um this Saturday from 11: to 4 p.m. um can take a picture of the QR code here for those interested and would love to learn U meet you guys learn more about um your projects that want to deploy on the intered evm and thank you
