[Music] right thank you guys for having guys and good afternoon ladies gentlemen we are going to talk about blockchain gaming for this on this panel so before we start let's make an intro about yourself and your team or project that you're involved I'll crew start kevin i'm kevin with forte I'll keep mine short hi Wilma Lynn Allen with prison group we are a economic consulting firm based in New York hi Sebastian was a co-founder of the sandbox we are decentralized gaming platform allowing anyone to make voxel asset and gaming experience other than fungible tokens and benefit from them thanks to the blockchain and USA oh yeah so now played a project tears of desert environment we know Quahog Rwanda Hamid Ortega you irrigate he hung go warriors hi Owen and penalties analyzed man John her on key they always in that all right so let's start with this question so why why block chaining game so what are the things related to each other so who wants to start first oh you don't say that could change King jr. ticket and cousin can using a Hannover oh but your hands bunions on the item be true so libram is a Sonya and you're situated in the or so can they create a service area soak a cotton tail whooping chattering aha naga I tend to upon at the end with Jason that could create o Kesava Sacramento game has had two hunters also more Koreans has Ponca kite hang it well when I'm in a just Academy egoriy marketplace new Korean hominids intervention kupuna also each open-air theater get his Anita Thank You Sebastian we go next yes so in our case or background is we started in 2012 with our own game an IP called the sandbox which is a 2d single-player mobile game where the users could make using over 500 elements their own world games levels we have had over 14 million installs to date it's been a huge success with over million active players that shared 70 million creation and over those almost seven years now we've seen a tremendous activity and player sharing although if we compare that user generated content sandbox game with the large success of Minecraft and roblox which score 100 million monthly energy players we found that there was just something we were missing sore recently about a year ago we started to work on a new version in 3d this time multiplayer multi-platform that use blockchain technology and we have this intention to disrupt the model that minecraft on roblox have established they are centralized walled garden where anything made by the Creator is actually not owned by them so locked inside a platform they cannot actually start monetizing the creation the way they want by find out for taking it out of those games and start trading trading them on secondary market place so we found bringing a new 3d sandbox game and combining it through non fungible tokens Yossi 7:21 and your CD 155 which is one a new standard for FG that we are one of the top three contributor was actually the best way of combining the two two and four were the creators and allow them to monetize fully the creation and on them mmm nice thank you for your opinion do you want to have some drawings yeah III think over the last several sections of this conference I think a big theme in blockchain is adoption so I think if if we zoom all the way out where is the next hundred million people going to come from that are using a blockchain asset or blockchain currency I think that's gonna come from the gaming industry I think actually even if we just narrow it down to even the next 10 million new consumers that will experience a crypto asset cryptocurrency I think it's gonna come from the gaming industry so on top of the the large number of you know gaming industry or gamers are a very very ideal audience right because gamers are already owning virtual currencies and virtual assets in a game they're just locked into a central database and the idea of having that asset or currency live on a public ledger that could be tradable that can be owned and sold in the marketplace outside of the game even that type of behavior has already happened in the gaming industry over the last a couple of decades so I think it's a it's a ready user base that you know wants digital assets digital currencies and wants them to have real value and but the game industry is a hard industry to penetrate so I think for it's going to take sort of a hybrid approach of people who really understand you know how to build blockchain technology and all of the solve some the real engineering problems and technical problems there but also really deeply understand the gaming industry and how to penetrate that market and make products services that developers and players you know want to use mmm thank you for your thank you for sharing your view on this can I go on to the next equation got it so there are some negative views on blockchain gaming because many of them are only focusing on gambling or and the quality of the game right now is somehow primitive compared to the traditional ones so what is your opinion on this negative views Kevin do you want to go first sure I think we confuse a lot what blockchain technology is in the gaming industry so I think a lot of people in the gaming industry think oh blockchain technology this is the new platform so in the game industry the last several platforms which is mobile platforms but I'm opening a smartphone platform as well as social gaming platforms have done so much to grow the gaming industry in terms of a number of players that a lot of I think new developers think Oh blockchain I'm gonna make a blockchain game and all of a sudden I'm gonna get millions of players to come to my game because it's its blockchain and the reality I think is the reverse where blockchain is really much more of a behind the scenes type of technology and so it's not something that's driving mass market adoption I think it's actually blockchain is much better when paired with a mass-market product already and provides new economic value new design tools and design spaces to create you know real value got real digital value and so that's why I also think you know gaming is such a fascinating place for it to start but I think the current crop of games that are lower quality as you as you talk about there's a real problem with building a blockchain game and just expecting a lot of people to show up which is why I think the gambling games and fear these other things have because they're regulated products were generally had been regulated products they're sort of attractive bigger audience without any marketing spent but I think we're going to move by you know I think the whole industry can move beyond that very quickly how do you think about it you want to go next Oh game chatter holy tears has rotational noon crucio sangguk a certain a creamy octo Wanda Vania Hammond on such a high vibe or and gave me such an annoyed the room and so case a player how it's an edge I got a game chat sega saturn's rm3 to treatment coach at zero channel terrible component tree gotten you crazy table one remember waking me papa chakras engineers in Sutton yo Veneto angry cheney ran and Conan II Sharon came would rip Louie get propane kami tiny terrors had to cut up a pillow knob Tara was angle Haneda han jisang I'm gonna eat kimchi jjigae sounded ran Tetragon Virginia Virginia II get a junction Trager hi Adele chrome and renovator II quantum pang Yong Yong Luka interesting view how about you Sebastian well I think it sad to be a good game before everything else and by modern definition of the good game it as either a great graphic or it's fun and it makes you want to come back to play it again over a long time and very often young developer or I've been joining the bandwagon and forgetting about that key aspects that games now need to carry those as to be successful and they often forget they look for the quick profit versus building for the long-term whereas us with our gaming platform and sandbox game we are more on a long-term vision we are building for the next five years 10 years so how do you achieve building this kind of game you actually need to invest more money money human resource and think how the economy design and how the blockchain but the graphic and the core mechanics will all fit together to create both the incentive for the token token ami an FPS but also how do we engaging the user who is platform for such a long time and to me it's also essential that you think your player as your community becoming part of inner circle this works in collaboration between the developer and the community to achieve that so we cannot discuss blocking gaming without a non printable token concept so I want to mention about this and NFT concept so many blocks in games are now adopting NFC on their games so what is your view on any of these futures and its use cases Godot do you want to go for it so I think it's very interesting how you know non fungible tokens for people are not familiar with the acronym which are you know different from traditional tokens were the responsibilities right so one Bitcoin it equals exactly another Bitcoin in one fungible token this represent unique asset so if you think about in games players you know in many different games can create this unique objects and the idea there is that they can monetize these objects and I think this is gonna be an essential part of adoption for proximity-based games because it allows players to make what we call in economies a relationship specific investment to a game so I'm going to dedicate an amount of time to play this game level up my character get these objects and then I can sell this object which again are unique to other players whether on the game or in a different games and the game cannot stop me from doing it right because I have the owner in my wallet of the specific asset so we think enough these are gonna be an essential part in a lot of different games there is going to be of course other games that also have native currencies and happy to talk about it later where you're gonna create you know like currently in certain games you have like certain coins and you can do things with those to have an internal economy to the game that runs on a currency other than you know traditional fiat currencies mm-hmm next point if you want to have some comment Kevin yeah I think as a game maker I think at the NFT as a very odd concept actually so I you know what we don't talk about I think it's very important which is true ownership of an asset but I think in games it's very rare to design a truly unique item right so I may have a really rare you know gun or sword or skin or something but it's it it's not the only one of that type in the game and so I think it's it's the the the purpose one night when I think about it from a blockchain standpoint is how do you equate create liquidity in marketplaces where people can buy and sell things that they want or they need you know in a game and if every single asset is truly unique it's hard to say oh I want that one thing in the world now there may be some items that you know game designers would you were put into a game that are truly unique but most of what I think is fun and interesting in a game is to you know have whole classes of assets that you know are similar and fungible but not totally one-of-a-kind in the game and so I think you know sometimes by creating these you know I see games on blockchain right now try to create ten thousand or a hundred thousand NF T's in the game but every single one is just a little bit different and unique but it splinters the overall demand and marketplace for you know a game economy so I think it's a weird it's there's part of it that's really interesting which is the real ownership and the ability that this is my specific asset and I can buy and sell that asset but in terms of designing a game where you have a hundred thousand unique assets I think that's that's there's been a weird design that I see new game developers sort of trip and fall over right now yeah I think just to respond to that I would imagine that through the NFT you capture that you know user-generated content and the way we see it in the broader economy is that what you're seeing is a shift to sort of longtail many different slightly different units of for example think about shoes or clothes or jewelry and you know we call it the Etsy economy right people are more and more trying to find unique objects that appeal to them as an individual at the same time I agree with you completely Kevin that you do need a liquid market so you know there is going to be still a lot about it that need to be financial to have you know sufficient demand for them and supply on on games as a game developer focusing on both an empty and user-generated content what is your opinion well we're all about as the user generating plants and platform and foreign creators so we provide them the tool to make their NFC's and then publish them on a marketplace become a builder of the Metaverse which is I like this vision I think enough tees of a strong potential here not only for the potential interoperability of course different games and platform but also because it can carry value for different aspects noticeably whoever made it is it a popular influencer or superstar or just regular person who owned it before but it had achieve and the emotional value that yourself has a greater output and when you combine it to a sandbox game like us the nfg of potentially great utility the game creators can select them and apply specific mechanics to them that makes them suddenly more desirable for specific game or not by the users and but also as a creator you should not expect that just because you create an NFC and define of certain scarcity it will start selling like crazy and there will be strong demand you have also to work and involve potentially new members to external to the community to become actor in the platform to start selling them and benefit from the value and as a way and I've seen although also to share the value with your community with a game creator with yourself as an artist I believe they are really powerful in that sense mmm and let's move on to the next question and some blockchain games are issuing their own tokens and some others I do not do not issue their own tokens so what are the advantages of each case so what is your view on blocking games which has own its own token and or not you get one good so as you guys know this goes beyond gaming right there there's a lot of platforms in different areas that have issue their own tokens and they will we think about what is the advantage is that you are able to create a platform specific subsidies so a very easy way to think about if you're not familiar with tokens think about having your own error mile program right airlines have run token system for decades and what they do is they subsidize travelers especially business travel that are very profitable and you will never attain traveler so if you're a business why with Korean Airlines they're gonna provide you through miles there ways to stick with Korea not move to the competitor right so it is a powerful tool at the same time whenever you provide a subsidy in the system there going to be people join the system just to gain the subsidy right and this is a big problem that we see in blockchain because if you try to game the Korean airline mileage program what's gonna happen is you no longer can fly with Korean right in a decent price platform there isn't really an entity that can prevent you from doing in and so if you find a loophole in the subsidy system you can easily start basically extracting value by you know basically gaming game right so this is sort of it dual sided issue again in general we have seen some parts to being very successful native tokens but there'll be no solo project that I would say now regretting having issued and they would have rather funded themselves for traditional equity or you know other more traditional I guess form of financing so what is your opinion Sebastian well as a developer I think you have to really think carefully of why you would need a token on your platform to run it in our case we have chosen to have a token it's called sound it's an ear c20 ug2 token that's served not only as a medium of transaction on a marketplace to allow users to trade either the asset the land and other sort of NFC's but it also allows some benefit for the users through staking mechanism and allow more rolls overall on the platform than just crear players and creators so by holding the token you are accruing the value of it potentially and contribute to the world economy of the platform and in a sense it's a very positive as well by having our token we are able to control more the supply adapted to the demands in general so that we are not fully exposed to how our regular cryptocurrencies can evolve on a market and I think it's also a benefit to consider for why having your own token Kevin I guess you have lots of things to share how about you i I think having a game token is absolutely critical so you know if you if you use aetherium or you know another layer one coin in a game you basically give up all your ability to be a central bank right you are you're dependent on whatever is happening in the etherium system right so you can't have any inflation in your game that's outside of what's happening with it in theory em you can't you know mint you know you can't mint or destroy you know different parts of the economy so game game developers you almost never play a game where you put Korean Won or yours dollars or Euros into a game and then you see a little one US dollar in the game itself right inevitably you put a US dollar in or you know some some fiat currency and then they give you some gems or some platinum or some diamonds or something else because the whole point is that with some type of a game currency you can now create your own inflation you can create bonus you know points so if you put in $1 you may get 10 coins but if you put in a hundred dollars maybe you're getting you know two thousand coins right you're getting a massive bonus for for doing that so all of those things are kind of a very basic way that game designers have managed an economy before and so trying to put a theory him into that's the core sort of asset or currency in the game you lose all of that control now what we started with in this panel was that there's a lot of friction in you know getting people into a game right so you use the theory and because you don't want to create another friction point if somebody has to understand a you know some a different type of token etc obviously a lot of people have and so you want to you know use eve to make it easy for people to come in but then you can't control the game so it's a it's a rock and a hard place and I think this is a big problem that we're trying to solve at Forte and make it really easy for game developers to control their own economy but still not have the friction of you know introducing a new coin in a way that is foreign to what consumers are used to do you do you want to add some comment cursor hanxiang karate chicken eat lakhtin domains and as you go Roxanne came in she sang Gomez Sangha cigarettes and a sassy Renault to vomit Tsugumi hegemony so Merrill pursue a circus in de cacao boganan looks a mayonnaise of heaven and he may need a phone cables a crew veena plucks a game Kevin on rocks a gaming Rosanna hohen Hagen utility token Alonzo Chum dominance I'm dr. Papiya Julian hezonia Inga Sanada Robot Chicken Sega intercutting you know Kyoto woman Chiaki hegemony Samwell Hanigan oh hi John you know oh poor Sunita thank you for sharing your view you know the next question is a game companies originally focused on game content itself or has evolved to gain publisher or gaming platform like Kabam next send their model so what is your view on blockchain gaming platforms so we really be dominant in the blockchain gaming scene as well like a traditional one know what you I think I think that at the platform level yeah I don't think we've seen a true platform level block yeah blockchain platform emerge yet it will be a winner take all market so I think yet the natural part of what blockchain economics enable is winner take all market so I think you know for example we have one major store of value blockchain yeah BTC is is that and you know different hard forks of BTC have happened over time because different communities wanted to you know not have just a store value but enable payments or other you know other use cases but you know you have hard Forks to deal with that your BTC is the best store value and it's sort of you know the network effects of that store value and how its secured in the the community that's around it the hashing power around it to secure that network you know it's it's a runaway effect so when these things are done right there's your massive massive advantages and so we generally think in the gaming industry you're having been a student of the business of gaming for many many decades from the very beginning there's many many platforms I'll just go back to steam you know it's the the last major one on PC there's been kind of these different very very interesting ways that many many developers built on top of steam and then left steam right but there's then there's other platforms that are managed to capture increasing share in the game industry over time like unity I think in the blockchain world because of the way that the economics can be designed in the way that network effects work within blotching technology I think there can be one platform that just runs away with the entire industry yes if I cannot I think the new parodying that blockchain is introducing is some surely that content is now the platform the game items or the games and self tokenizer energies can be distributed anywhere so they don't need necessarily a platform to have an audience to actually come but they can be the point the new point of attraction for players to come and use because they have them in the wallet and they can use those and fgs into specific games that will support them to attract new players so in a sense it's still very early in terms of the development and we have to see some use case but technically it's possible and I'm quite excited about this is there anyone wants to add some comments about this yeah I actually second a little what Kevin said what we see in a lot of different sectors is that there is going to be one winner take home the due to the nature of Bloch and and the network effects that you see and you know this is hard to see now as it's so early that the number of users on different paths right it's so low that you know it's very difficult to predict but over time you know it's going to be the situation that is you know one standard and people gravitate to the standard now there are of course a lot of attempts at interoperability which might you know alleviate this but you know so far we have not really seen that progressing to the level that we think it's gonna be meaningful in the in the short term so I you know we do see that at the macro level most likely this can be one winner in most sectors that it's going to dominate the market significantly thank you for thank you for your opinion this question will be our last question what type of hurdle should blockchain gaming overcome to induce a massive user adoption so do you want to go first yes my addiction Haman to show you at Yemen and to hunt a oh sorry so know how many came came also children Yangon and Oksana game good at Sarah was another hamnida could block saying platform Hogan he plucked st. Angus out on utility token a currency a tonneau cover cheap but Shimon and your cutterhead she came here and gonna gain chat say Egyptian will head and we couldn't you croco could second matsing he plucked chain platform your government something and no question as though they saw the channel had and someone in there who go to other scene and applause NK me Republican he came content emitted said John Hannah goes Ikaruga Nelson Haruka San Luca Rocco is Sebastian do you want have some comment well when I was a kid and I used to play video games but fortunately have no more time for that I never read the user manual I just flagged the cartridge or the cd-rom in the console and I was straight into the game and now with modern games on mobile including I Pro casual games no one read a single line of text and I think in general blockchain games have forgotten that how immediate they should be to and a builder players to enter and start having fun with them you usually have to start by having a wallet if you've never installed it well it's a big mess to understand how you set up at etc so the role is quite big of course we are walking to a solution that we are on board the user faster like bits key or other kind of wallet but overall even as game builder and game maker we should think how quickly people can understand your game without reading anything and what benefits are fund they can take from it correct I mean it ultimately it needs to work that that's and again this is not just boxing games it's so many different sector where you know the technical complexity is not something that the user needs to experience that's well you know I'll talk about Forte specific strategy we our mindset is that there's already very large gaming communities out there you know as I talked about in my presentation to over 2 billion people are playing games around the world so why try to get those gamers into an entirely new experience when I think with where blockchain technology is we could bring that experience into the community that the players already are so I think you know our view is that a player is already playing a game they're already have you know currency and assets you know in those games and we basically if you can introduce a new frictionless way for that player to you know buy or earn a new asset in that game and they don't have to you know go through the whole meta mass gonna get eat them figure out how to pick asset cetera and they could just start buying and owning you know these these blockchain assets in the game and then they discover later that oh I could actually sell this thing to another player that aha moment for a player I think is going to be so big that it'll if you can if we can take care of all of the hard work to remove all of that friction and still make it a real blockchain asset I think that light bulb that goes on in players head will be massive and and so that that's our view about how do we drive the next you know many many millions tens of millions hundreds of millions of people is to not try to get them all into a new game but let's bring you know blockchain technology into the games where they're already having a good time I think time is up and thank you very much for sharing your insightful and valuable opinions and thank you for listening thank you thank you very much [Music] thank you very much gentlemen
