Our Students Explain Mainnet Forking: Mirroring The Live Blockchain || Cohort X

Web3BridgeWed, Oct 9, 2024, 12:00 AM

Mainnet Forking provides a testing environment that is more precise and thorough compared to testnets, as it closely replicates the live mainnet environment. This entails genuine token balances, deployed contracts, and network activity. In terms of debugging, it enables the identification and resolution of issues within a state that mirrors the live blockchain.

[Music] have you ever tried to apply for a loan application or a school student loan and you are wondering um the information that you have to write on it they need to be precise and straight to the point and you only get to do this application once so what happens is you might download the application form and make a copy of it and then in the copy you make sure you write the precise and detailed information that you need and then you transfer all that information in your main application form so this whole analogy it's what main it foring is all about Min fing is a technique using blockchain to create a local replic of whatever is happening on the main it's just basically a concept that allows developers to interact um with already deployed contracts uh to understand the vulnerabilities and risks before um deploying to the main net basically to test um deployed contracts to actually check for risks or vulnerability before we can actually deploy um to the mnet we were able to run more like a simulation of a live contract on the main net where we we get to impersonate um someone who is on the uh main net a real time user on the main net and I think interestingly it's a form of interactions where we get to test our use cases U within our contract before we get deploy to the main net as the name implies they actually just the main net use that as a testing ground for their smart contract and give a kind of live they create a kind of live environment testing for whatever they want to do so they they see how it is but actually not affecting the main let's say you have a contract that you want to test before deploying it to the main net and the test net doesn't have all the features that allows you to test them efficiently so what me does is it give you a simulation of the main net without actually making any permanent change to the main net hence making it very cheap and effective to test your contract before finally pushing it to the main net [Music]
