Building Web3 on Algorand Ryan R Fox

hello I'm Ryan Fox I am developer Advocate at Eland thank you all for joining the session on how to build web 3 on aland uh as you can see yep that's me uh before web 2 because this is what I look like as web 3 right now obviously a lot more gray hair uh a little bit older a little bit more portly um so yep my my job here at elgrand is to uh is to help developers uh use our apis use our sdks and build fun stuff on the alaran protocol so that's what we're here if you guys want to connect with me of course you can shoot some QR codes there connect with algorand at the top one or myself at the bottom one uh we are building uh throughout this build week and throughout the entire eth Denver uh hackathon part so we've got uh our alaran channel on the spor Dow you can connect with me Ryan R Fox at ELR you know one01 okay good let's start with the end the most important part right the thank yous and first of all thank you all of the builders the reason why we are all here for this week for this month right is for you guys to be building so thank you very much and of course we none of us could do any of this if it wasn't for all of the volunteers and the sponsors and I will tell you for from aland uh you know being a presenting sponsor is is an honor to connect with you the builders uh and to connect with our fellow sponsors as well so if we could do a little bit of developer calisthetics and please put them together for all the volunteers that allow us to make this happen for this week all right yes nice work devs all right um well good well that it always feels good to to give out thanks to to everybody and again aland is very happy to uh to to give thanks as well but really what we're here to do and what feels really good is to give away money and I know that's why I have a packed house today because everybody saw this tweet earlier in the week and said alr's giving away $1 billion yeah $1 billion dollar now of course it's crypto and you have to do your own research right so that might not actually be the entire story we're Limited in how much we can give away okay now what is true about that is that the ALR foundation and the ecosyst partners together combined have already pledged over a billion dollars in Grants to give away to developers uh who are helping build the agrand E ecosystem we aren't doing that specifically through eth Denver but in fact we are giving away uh $50,000 to our web3 Bounty so truth be told during build week uh and throughout East Denver we will be awarding 50,000 to uh teams who are building uh their web three solutions on the alaran protocol of course we split that in half and we give uh half of that away we will award on Sunday to our inperson Builders and then uh the other half is then available uh next month at March for all of our virtual Builders so we appreciate all of you guys building uh that both virtually and in person the way that we will split that up is we will have 15K to the winner 7K for the runner up and third place will receive 3,000 Us doll worth of algo so thanks very much for participating in that and uh you know what is it that we well that seems like there should be a new slide if I push the button and so what is it that we want you to actually build during this build week we want you to go big we want you to think about the hard problems that are sping web 3 right what types of decentralized solutions can you guys come up with to build and then importantly to deploy them on top of the algorand uh virtual machine um so you are free to choose anything in the web 3 space obviously it must be decentralized in nature uh but I don't really care if it's something that you want to reimplement if it's something that already exists out there and you want to deploy it uh on the aloran blockchain that's that's how outstanding uh we will give some additional um Awards to those that are doing novel Solutions so when we think about what is it that we are interested in for you guys to uh to to implement when we think about our judging criteria really the only criteria is that it uses a smart contract that is deployed on the AVM the algorand virtual machine um other than that it pretty much can be anything that your creative minds can think of di staking swapping nfts gaming whatever you can think of all right so um let's talk about how you guys can do that if you if you haven't done this already make sure that you are connected with us in the uh in the Alo channel in the aloran channel on the spork Dow Discord server there we've got uh lots of uh active devs that are help help you get up to speed on what does it mean to build on top of the protocol uh and then tomorrow we have a couple of workshops that are taking place live in person at the algo Ranch so for those out there building virtually we do have solutions for you as well on some upcoming slides but for those in this room and here uh hacking and building in in Denver in person uh just two and 1 half blocks south on Broadway here just a half a block south of the main event where uh everything will will start on Thursday is is is called the Alo Ranch and that's I'm sorry that's a half a block south of the the the Sports Castle right that's the main event venue so we're going to have these uh we want you to sign up for these and to come and join us and we'll be teaching you the basics of building smart contracts on the aloran network as well and and you can do that in a couple of different languages either in pyal which is a Python language binding or using the reach language which is a JavaScript like smart Contracting platforming language that can be deployed either to the algan network or to the ethereum network conflux multiple blockchains reach language is a really cool language to learn hope that you can come and check out these uh workshops upcoming tomorrow so what have we got for for everybody for all of the developers and especially for those joining virtually as well we want you to connect with with us at the alaran developer portal we have an incredible amount of content there and we get lots of compliments from developers who have come into the ecosystem either um not coming from having any experience of with web 3 just coming from traditional development and or those that have come from uh very well versed in solidity programming and have said that this developer website really helps them understand how to do it and very very quickly so we have code samples available there there hit that QR code and get started there as well of of course connect with us in the uh developer Discord server so this is going this this would take you to the algrant Discord server uh if you want to get essentially uh 24hour support we are there uh of course during build week we are keeping our eyes within the spor uh channels because we want to be where the developers are so we will meet you there but you can certainly come join us on the alaran Discord server as well all right so why would you even want to consider building your Solution on the alram protocol well I think it's important to think about uh Community right that's what web 3 is all about building a community that's why algorand are here right now because we want to be reaching out to a broader ecosystem of developers and E Denver and the hackathon that goes on during build week and throughout the next month is really where we can meet those people at we are about Building Bridges uh to developers and also to other blockchains so I'm very excited to announce that tomorrow alran will release uh a new consensus upgrade that will uh enhance our smart Contracting platforming language where we will be introducing some cryptographic Primitives and signing mechanisms to be doing what we call State proofs which will be the first piece to allow us to do uh interoperability with other blockchains by having our Pure proof of stake protocol validate itself and be able to prove to other blockchains the state of the alaran network so therefore a foreign blockchain can put a smart contract on their side to validate the state of algorand allowing bridging so if you want to have a solution to bridge to the aloran network and you are uh any of the other blockchains out there we really want to connect with you and have you build a solution using those cryptographic um Primitives called State proofs and you can learn more about that on Friday when our lead cryptographer Chris will be talking uh specifically about that and how uh postquantum secure signatures will be working within the alran network as of tomorrow starting in our beta net first and then be pushed out to our main net uh later on this month as well uh we're excited of course to announce that the alran foundation have just uh hired a brand new CEO and uh Stacy Warden will be giving a keynote tomorrow uh yes uh to kick off the uh to to kick off the event and uh she's also hosting a women's breakfast at the algo Ranch on Thursday so we welcome uh all the women to come and meet her and to connect with the aland foundation uh as well the foundation is the is the entity that has the grants and makes the grants for you developers out there to uh to to build and to broaden our ecosystem to build this community of developers to build this community of useful applications and not only do we have the hackathon awards in the bounty that we have but we also have the ALR Foundation there to help developers uh over the long run and and making uh Investments and grants to them to develop their uh Solutions long term all right so that's it I hope that you guys will consider building your Solution on the alaran blockchain and uh and compete for the algorand web 3 bounty and we are excited to award those $50,000 to you for that thanks very much
